Sharing God’s Blessings Annual Appeal
Happy Easter to All!! Thank you to the many generous parishioners who have supported the 2015 Annual Appeal, which
began just before Lent. During Lent, we are all challenged to
grow in prayer, to fast, and to give alms in anticipation of this
great Easter season!
Your generosity to the Annual Appeal allows Catholics and
non-Catholics alike throughout our four counties in New Jersey
the opportunity to encounter the Risen Christ. Thousands of
people are served annually by the Archdiocese of Newark
through various programs and ministries funded by the Appeal.
Please be sure to watch this year’s Annual Appeal video online
at www.rcan.org/sharing to see firsthand the impact your gift
makes. Thank you again for your generosity and Happy Easter!
A NEW CHERRY COLORED ENVELOPE!
If you are using envelopes for your weekly offering to our
parish, you can find a new cherry colored one within the last
packet you have received in the mail. You will receive a total
of six such envelopes throughout the year. They are not dated!
You can use them anytime you like to make a donation
towards our church Maintenance and Repairs. Please use
cherry colored envelopes for any future capital project, or any
other particular purpose, towards the upkeep of our facilities
and grounds.
All donations received through the cherry colored envelopes
are restricted because they are designated for a special reason,
and therefore they are not assessed by the Archdiocese: all donations are totally used for Maintenance and Repairs!
If you are sending offerings through our Online Giving Service you may send your Maintenance and Repairs donations
electronically: the correspondent box may be found under the
“Church Renovation and Upkeep” menu in the Online Donations setting page.
Please call our parish office if you need more information.

A note from the Pastor
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
H
appy Easter to all! The light of the Resurrection of our
Lord Jesus Christ shines once again in our midst as we celebrate the mystery of our salvation. We are called to participate
in this mystery, and believe that all human persons have been
created by God so that they may experience the eternal life that
has been revealed by the Paschal event.
This year Holy Thursday marked the 10th anniversary of
death of St. John Paul II. This holy Pontiff often described
Christianity precisely as a “religion of salvation.” In his book
Crossing the Threshold of Hope, he wrote, “Everyone who
looks for salvation, not only the Christian, must stop before the
Cross of Christ. Will he be willing to accept the truth of the
Paschal Mystery, or not? Will he have faith? … God has embraced all men by the Cross and the Resurrection of His Son.
God embraces all men with the life which was revealed which
was revealed in the Cross and in the Resurrection, and which is
constantly being born anew from them.”
But what is salvation? To save – John Paul II explains –
means to liberate men and women from evil, from radical evil,
in order that they may enter eternal life, the happiness that
comes from union with God: “This is life that has no limits in
time or space. It is ‘eternal life,’ participation in the life of God
Himself, which comes about in the eternal communion of the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
St. Paul wrote to the Colossians: “If you have been raised
with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is,
seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that
are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died,
and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Col 3:1-3).
To be resurrected in Christ means to believe, accept and
actually experience that all our sins have been forgiven in Him.
Our Risen Lord continues, in fact, to work after his resurrection
by bestowing his mercy on all souls who approach him with the
same eagerness and desire thirsty people run to a fountain of
water: with the confidence that their thirst – their desire for
salvation – will be quenched.
As you know, St. John Paul II promoted prayers and devotions in honor to the mercy of God by instituting the feast of
Divine Mercy on the Second Sunday of Easter. Next Sunday I
invite you to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday with a special
Holy Hour during which we will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet before the Blessed Sacrament. The celebration will begin at
2:00 PM.
Following the Holy Hour, I invite you also to join us for
another fantastic Jubilee event. Our leader of songs, Lorinda
Walker will perform in a recital together with other talented
artists presenting a variety of musical pieces from opera arias,
to classical spiritual hymns, to wonderful Broadway hits. The
concert will begin at 4:00 PM. Please, come and celebrate with
us!
With my blessing,
Fr. Paolo

ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK
2015 LENTEN REGULATIONS
1.
The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday. If possible, the fast on
Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy
Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering
and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to
share more fully and to celebrate more readily His
Resurrection. The other Fridays of Lent are days of
Abstinence.
On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted,
and two (2) smaller meals, which if added together, would not
exceed the main meal in quantity.
Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those
who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of
abstinence.
2.
The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence
“substantially”, or as a whole, is a serious obligation.
3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as
days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the
traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of
voluntary self-denial as penance.
4. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty*)
extends from the First Sunday of Lent, February 22, 2015 to
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 31, 2015.
*Canon 920, 1. All the faithful, after they have been
initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the
obligation of receiving Communion as least once a year.
ARCHDIOCESE EVENTS
The Archdiocese of Newark is once again registering couples
in the Parishes who are celebrating milestones in their
