Jack’s exhibition of paintings is entitled “The
Big Apple Show”, a summer series inspired by his
world travels and perpetual pursuit to entertain
art enthusiasts with colorful and vibrant
canvases. Many images in Jack's work are based
on
stained
glass,
shattered
glass,
and
kaleidoscope imagery, and his paintings portray
the effects of light illuminating and shining
through surfaces. ■
Jelvis Has Left The Building
nAscent artist Yuko Ueda recently collaborated
with five other artists to create a unique sidewalk
drawing. Ueda, along with artists Naruki Kukita,
Maria Tanikawa, Risako Hachioshi, Brian Ormond,
Brian Boerner, took inspiration from Ideal Glass
Gallery's on August 16th commemoration of the
30th anniversary of Elvis' passing to create a
portrait of Jelvis, an actor named Willard Morgan
known as Jewish Elvis.
Yuko said, " It was a first but, as I got to know
the people who organized the event, musicians
involved, and cooperated with other artists, it
became more exciting."
Yuko was yearning to do a collaborative
outdoor work with other artists and saw this as a
great opportunity. While not a permanent work,
it was a chalk and washable paint piece in front
of the event space. At night, the sidewalk was
illuminated. The piece definitely caught the
interest of the passers by.
"It was fun to share our work process and
Elvis' story with little bit of the community." said
Yuko. ■

From Germany to Russia to NYC
Russian couple Asya Dodina and Slava
Polishchuk, have been working collaboratively
since 2003. They feel that working together on
the same pieces has allowed them to bring dual
vision to their works.
Garbani Stands Out at Merge 360
Merge 360 (The Non-Gallery Gallery) is a
collective of eight artists who show and curate
their work for a third season. nAscent Art New
York artist Isabelle Garbani is one of Merge’s

aspirations: to create a place where people can
get together and celebrate their differences,
share their knowledge, and make the whole
greater than the sum of the parts.
Isabelle and Merge 360 invite you to their fall
show, with receptions on Sunday September 30th
2-6pm and Thursday October 4th from 8-10pm.
Isabelle will be showing pastel drawings from a

Newark Mayor: Kudos to Breiner
nAscent artist John Breiner works with found
objects and books, attracted to their "voice and
past life."
In mid-August, Breiner's exhibition “Trail of an
Octopus,” a well-adorned solo show, was held at
Sensei Gallery, where he received positive
feedback
from
Newark's
mayor,
Cory
Booker.
John will not be gone for long. Come October
John shows again at Sensei for a second time this
fall.
One Line Goes a Long Way
Denise DeSpirito is an up and coming New
York artist who has participated in the past two
nAscent Art events. Last month you could find
Denise's infamous, single-line pieces at Invisible
NYC on Orchard street. Denise creates minimal
line-drawn and painted pieces using gouache,
watercolor or colored pencil, referencing the
myriad images she encounters daily living in New
York.
Ever the altruist, Denise has donated one of
her exuberantly meticulous works to support a
local library in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at their $20
Greenpoint library auction. The library is located
at 107 Norman Ave. at Leonard St, Brooklyn. ■
