IEP–2015 (WISMAR-GERMANY)
IEP–2015 (WISMAR-GERMANY) - A REPORT With a firm determination in our minds and excitement in our hearts we made a choice for our brighter future by applying for the Indian Summer School Program in Wismar, Germany. The journey for IEP-2015 Electrical students started when they received the email notifying that they were selected for the Indian Summer School program. Students were being continuously updated by the GTU team through social media. With support and guidance of GTU IEP team the students finally got their visa. Even under severe time constraint, the students prepared themselves to enter the new phase of life. Finally, on 12th June the day arrived when the first batch of students boarded for destination Hamburg, via one of the richest city of the world Abu Dhabi and Düsseldorf. The pickup from Hamburg to Wismar was arranged by Wismar University (Hochschule Wismar). After one and a half hours drive through lush green farms and barn they reached the student residence area. The students were welcomed by the Administrative Manager Ms. Yelena Zascerniskaand were introduced to the student tutors (Sussane, Yuchang, Zhang and Parichut). ABU DHABI AIRPORT Wismar University (Hochschule Wismar) is situated in the centre of the town and it offers many courses in various fields of engineering and management. There was a sports community in the college where students could find various games from table tennis to football. There was a mensa (food court) in the college, where the students had their lunch during break time. The shopping malls and supermarkets were near by the university. Also, many students rented a bicycle for a month. The week 1 included laboratory and theory sessions for the subject. The students were provided with the notes in advance and were encouraged to go through it before attending the lectures. The subject wireless communication was taught by Prof. Andreas Ahren. The difference that the students found was that instead of just theoretical knowledge, they were provided with the practical application through the Mat lab programming which resulted in better understanding of the subject. WISMAR CITY AT A GLANCE Compiled by Hiren Thaker and proof reading by Mr. Amit Johri The second week started with the subject of GTU curriculum Advanced Processors and Controllers. The subject continued for two weeks. The subject was divided in three parts. The first part of the subject was taught by Prof. Ahren, the second part was taught by Prof. Olaf Simanski and the third part was taught by his colleague Prof. Cesar Benevento from Spain. The subject included practical sessions on Siemens PLC S7-1500, Design and Implementation of filters and Mat lab programming on audio and signal processing. PLC S7 1500 SIEMENS The fourth week started with the subject of GTU curriculum Advanced Micro-controllers and Embedded Systems. The subject was taught by Prof. GotzBuller. In the beginning, it was difficult for the students to get an understanding of the subject, as they were not much familiar with ‘C’ programming. But after a couple of lectures it became interesting for students to understand C programming. During the two weeks, the students worked on PSoC and Black-Fin processor ADSPBF533. PSoC (Programmable System-on-Chip) is a family of microcontroller integrated circuits by Cypress Semiconductor. These chips include a CPU core and mixed-signal arrays of configurable integrated analogue and digital peripherals. Whereas, ADSP-BF533 is Advance Digital Signal Processor and it provides a high performance, power efficient application in signal processing . Compiled by Hiren Thaker and proof reading by Mr. Amit Johri Black-Fin processor ADSP-BF533 The examination was much more practical based than theory, hence students enjoyed examinat ion as they were now much more familiar with the subjects. In the fourth week the college arranged a boat trip of Wissemara for the students. Wissemara, replica of a medieval sailing boat built in 14th century and is one of its kind. The trip was memorable for the students. Besides studying students had weekend trips to cities like Hamburg, Rostock, Lubeck and Munich. These are the famous and well known places of Germany and are located near Wismar. A trip to Berlin was organized by the university during the fifth weekend. The students visited the Wall of Berlin, Berlin television tower, Brandenburg gate and at the end a short boat trip was organized by the university. The next day we moved to GICON Stralsund. The Core competence of GICON is the treatment of steel and other metals to high-quality products. The students had a meeting with the Mayor on the same day. Szczecin (Stettin), is the capital city of the West Pomeranian Voivode ship in Poland. In the vicinity of the Baltic Sea, it is the country's seventh-largest city and a major seaport in Poland. The students had an industrial visit to the PORT SZCZECIN. Port of Szczecin has a history as old as the city itself. It is difficult to even determine if the port was created by the city or perhaps the city by the port. The early existence of the port is reflected in the Slavic boat wreck dating from the late ninth century. PORT SZCZECIN And now was the last weekend. The students could not even realize how the six weeks got over and now they have to return back to India. With a broken heart on 28th July, 2015 the students said good bye to Wismar and left back for India. The Indian Summer School program got over with glimpse of knowledge and motivation to the students. Students went for this program individually but they returned as a family.
