Starting in April, the IL Chapter of the Rock Valley Anglers® will hold membership meetings on the 1st
Wednesday of each month.

If you haven’t noticed already, we have a new look to the newsletter. We have included links to online
resources within the PDF document to make the newsletter more dynamic and convenient. We hope

Son bests father via a catfish - Don Dubel took the honors in the Catfish category of the 2014 RVA Big
Fish Contest by edging out his father Tim Dubel. I can’t think of a better way to finish in second place.
Congratulations to both Don and Tim. I am sure the bragging rights are being used liberally. I have a
feeling Tim may do a little more catfishing this year in hopes of the 2015 title.

At a recent Yahara Fishing Club auction, 2 titans battled head to head for a prized St Croix banner.
Dave McCoy was able to edge out Roger Sands for the coveted prize. We may be witnessing the start
of a feud between the Sands and McCoys. Similar to the Hatfields and McCoys only much fishier.

Craig Roberts is lobbying for the inclusion of another species in the RVA fishing contests. Craig, I think
it’s going to be an uphill battle on this one.

Chris Olson/John Driscoll were dialing in the panfish bite on Upper Mud in late January/early February.

Greg Sterwald was dialing in trailer hitch covers in early February.

If there are any Leonard sightings, send up a signal flare as that’s where the bite is.


Several RVA members were seen scampering away from the Yahara Fishing Club’s February meeting
with arms full of fishing gear obtained at the club’s annual auction. The most notable purchase was a
nice St Croix banner. See News/Announcements.

January’s Fish of the Month - Rod Bondele’s beautiful 27.5”, 12 lb Walleye
Rod actually gave away his fish of the month gift
card via a member contest. He had everyone guess
the weight of this fish. The member closest to the
actual weight would take home the prize. At the January meeting, you could hear the roar of the crowd
as everyone tried to convince their neighbors of the
accuracy of their guess. There were several members close to the actual weight, but Rick Taaffe’s
guess of 12 lb 2 oz was the ultimate winner. Thanks
to Rod for putting on the contest. Congratulations to
Rick for winning it! I can see a successful carnival
career in Rick’s future. STEP RIGHT UP AND LET

IL Chapter - 2/11, Membership Meeting
There was a very informative presentation pertaining to the relationship between the WI Chapter and the
IL Chapter of the Rock Valley Anglers®. A ton of great questions/comments rounded out the evening.
There seemed to be a lot of excitement about the future. I, for one, can’t wait to join chapter forces in the
Traveling Trophy contest. I think we can wrestle the trophy away from the Yahara Fishing Club this year!
IL Chapter - 2/20-2/22, Rockford Boat, Vacation, and Fishing Show
The IL Chapter had a presence at the Rockford Boat, Vacation, and Fishing Show spreading the word
about the Rock Valley Anglers®. A lot of fun was had by all. A thanks goes out to all the members that
helped with the event. It is very much appreciated.
WI Chapter - 2/25, Auction Night!
A great time was had by all in attendance. It was great to see
so many new faces. There certainly were some terrific deals
on some very nice stuff. The old adage “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” held true. The club raised over $800.
Thanks goes out to all those that donated and bought items.
A special thanks goes out to our auctioneer Chad Riesen. Another special thanks goes out to Tom Quillen for being such a
fishing tackle junkie. Tom, you are #1 in our hearts. Congratulations to Steve Strait for winning the member raffle prize.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s auction night.

Good food among good friends - what could be better. Congratulations
to all the contest winners. Let’s give a special shout out to Leonard Doubleday for his Lifetime Member Award. The competition is on for 2015.
Good luck to everyone on the water this year. Now, if we could just get
to the point where my baits don’t bounce when they hit the water…
WI Chapter - 2/27-3/1, Madison Fishing Expo
We had a great time at the Madison Fishing Expo. We saw some old friends and made some new. Spreading the word about the Rock Valley Anglers® was a lot of fun. We had good traffic throughout the show.
The interactions with folks were always very positive. I would say it was a success. Thanks to everyone
that helped man the booth. Special thanks to Roger Sands (the Man, the Myth, the Legend) for once again
working tirelessly on behalf of the Rock Valley Anglers®.
