SCRIPTURE CORNER
FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF CHRIST
The great fifty-day celebration of Easter has concluded, as have the feasts honoring the Holy Trinity
and the Body and Blood of Christ. Last week we began a long stretch of Ordinary Time that will bring us to
late November. Saint Paul tells us today that those who are baptized “have clothed yourselves with
Christ” (Galatians 3:27). This scripture is echoed in the Church’s baptism ritual when we sing, “You have
put on Christ, in Him you have been baptized.” This message is inspiring and sobering at the same time, for
in today’s Gospel, we get to the heart of what it means to be clothed in Christ. The Lord tells us, “If anyone
wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). For
the next twenty-two weeks we are called to take up the cross and, with Saint Luke as our guide, follow in the
footsteps of Christ.

Father Louis Lohan Community Garden at St. Thomas Catholic Church
Under the guidance of St. Vincent De Paul, The Young Vincentians, a youth organization of St. Thomas Catholic Church, participates in community service projects around the Gulf Coast Area. Participants range in ages from 3 to
15. For the calendar year of 2012/2013, one of our projects was to create a community garden. It was created in memory
of our beloved pastor at the time, Father Louis Lohan. A donation was made from one of our parishioners, and our children helped to make the planter boxes, get the soil readied for planting, planted all the wonderful vegetables and herbs,
and helped to maintain the garden throughout the summer. The garden is an annual project for our group and the children enjoy planting, caring, and watching our garden grow; it is very satisfying for them to see what they can accomplish. The garden is enjoyed by many in the community, including clients of St. Vincent De Paul, who are able to have
access to tomatoes, carrots, leeks, peppers of all sorts, onions, pimentos, and strawberries, as well as a large variety of
herbs. This is our fourth year for our Community Garden Project, which continues to improve annually as we learn how
to successfully grow a garden.

SUMMER SCRIPTURE STUDY
Each Wednesday in June, started June 1st and continuing to June 29th.
Do you look around at Mass and see drunken church-goers, then you might be a Corinthian.
If your fellow parishioners are hazy about church doctrine, then you might be a Corinthian.
Does the Pastoral Council break out into fist-fights, if so then you might be a Corinthian.
And if the priest cuts Mass short so he can get to the golf course, then you just might be a Corinthian!
If you, or someone you love, might be a Corinthian, join us as we study Saint Paul’s first letter to us.
Wednesday evenings in June. 7:00, 2nd floor, parish office complex
No pre-registration necessary.
For more information, contact Dave Gauthier at [email protected]

ANNOUNCING EXCITING CHANGES FOR OUR 6TH – 12TH GRADE SCHOOL OF
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
We are very excited to announce that the Life Teen Program will become the Catechetical model of religious
education for our students in grades six through twelve effective September 2016!
Instead of meeting on Wednesday evenings, our middle and high school youth will gather on Sunday evenings
after the Life Teen Mass for religious education. Weekly Life Teen nights (9th through 12th grade) and Edge nights (6th
through 8th grade) replace the traditional classroom catechesis and offer a large group, interactive atmosphere where
teens can grow in their understanding of God’s relevance in their lives while building community within the parish. Teens experience a large-group format that removes the classroom desks and draws them into an interactive learning experience.
If you will have a child in the 6th through 12th grade next year, check your mail for a letter with more details
about this transition. Life Teen is a complete, comprehensive and interactive model of religious formation. If you have
any questions, feel free to email [email protected] or drop a question in the collection basket at Mass. We will
gather all questions and respond to them in a series of upcoming mailings. We want to hear from you!
