2013 Annual Meeting

St Ives
Turns 25!
Be sure to mark your calendar
for our 25 Year Anniversary
Party and Grand Re-Opening
Golf Tournament “The Bermuda Blitz”. The
Bermuda Blitz will be held on Saturday, August
31st at 8:30am. The 25 Year Anniversary Concert
and Fireworks Display will be held on Sunday,
September 1st. There will be a concert and
signature bar on the Driving Range prior to and
after the fireworks and a full dinner buffet on
the patio, prior to the fireworks. All of this to
celebrate St Ives 25th birthday and the re-opening
of the golf course.
Already into August means most children
will be going back to school soon. However,
summer is still not over! The Pool is still open,
and the Tennis Pro-Member is just around the
corner. This has been a great year with strong
participation in all areas. The Greens and Driving
Range renovation is coming to completion. The
Grounds Department will be working on course
detail throughout the month which includes,
sodding cart path edges, applying pine straw,
edging beds and bunkers, picking up pinecones
and sticks as well as touching up the landscaping
around the Course. We greatly appreciate your
patience during the renovation. We truly have a
much greater Course to enjoy for years to come.
Be sure to mark your calendar to attend this
year’s Annual Meeting, which will be on Sunday,
October 6th, in the Windsor Ballroom. This is
where the state of the Club is presented, election
results will be announced for President and Board
Members, and an open floor for Members to ask
questions. Following the meeting, complimentary
hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be provided. We
look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for all your support,

From the Membership Director...
Is it really almost time to
go back to school?? We’ve
been having a really good
summer here at
St Ives! For me, it’s been
great to see everyone
enjoying the Club’s newly
renovated Pool & Cabana,
and thank you for the
continued rave reviews.
Of course the other big news is the
anticipation of the Grand Re-Opening of
the Golf Course. The time frame is still on
track for the end of this month, and we will
be planning a very large party to celebrate,
which will include our 25th Anniversary
celebration as well. A party NOT to be
missed!
Full Privilege Golf Membership Drive
Update:
• We are still receiving ongoing
inquiries, especially a great deal of
relocations.
• Thank you again for those of you
who are referring your friends and
colleagues.
• It is SO appreciated!
Remember, we can’t reduce Full Privilege dues until
we achieve and maintain 400FP Members.
End of July net growth update: 378 Full
Privilege Members.
Note: 378 does NOT include the Young
Executives. When those numbers are added,
it brings our “Full Privilege Equivalent” to
just over 444.
If you would like for me to send information
to a friend or work colleague about our
current membership programs, please call or
send me an email.
So, enjoy the rest of summer, and the great
events we have planned, ranging from
elegant dinners to parties at the pool – we
have something for everyone!
See you soon ~ thank you for making this
such a great place to be,
“Mel”

Tip for the Month
This month we are going to talk about keeping your left foot heel on the ground during the backswing. Keeping
your left foot heel on the ground will allow your body to coil up as you take the club back. It is this coiling effect
that will allow you to uncoil during the downswing and make solid contact with the ball. When we see a player
lifting their left heel they generally lift the club with their arms and do not rotate the body as well.
So as you are going through your pre-shot routine get your good posture, good grip, and think about keeping that
left heel on the ground during the swing. Trust me, you will hit the ball more solid and farther by keeping both feet
on the ground during the backswing.

Renovation Update
Published on July 20th, 2013
It is almost three weeks after
planting the greens and they
are filling in nicely; despite the
challenging weather we have faced.
Bermuda grass requires sunlight
and heat to grow and Atlanta was
plagued with ten days of cloud cover, rain and cooler
than average temperatures for the first 17 days after
planting (even the coolest July 4th in 19 years). Our
fertilization program has been a success and we are
already mowing the greens at a height of .125 (our target
is .100-.110). The weekly topdressing program is also in
full swing, the amount of sand will reduce as the greens
fill in, but we will continue to topdress every Monday.
The greens edges are becoming well defined and the next
step of the project is for the Maintenance Staff to prep
the edges of the greens for new collars. This will take
place the week of July 22-26 and we will begin laying
sod on July 29 (weather permitting). We are installing
TifGrand Bermuda which will give a clean defined collar
and will tolerate lower mowing heights.
We are pleased to report that the City of Johns Creek
unanimously approved the removal of the trees in the
stream bank buffer on holes 7, 8, 15 and 16. McAlister
Tree Service will be back on property to remove the
remaining trees and the new landscaping will be installed
shortly there after.
The Board approved a request from the Golf Committee
to resurface the top two tees of the Driving Range.
During early August we will be removing all the turf
from the top two tees, laser leveling (which will increase
our hitting space approximately 25%) and regrassing
with Celebration Bermuda. Celebration is a deep bluegreen Bermudagrass that has finished best in numerous
university research for wear tolerance and recovery. The
range project should take 5-7 days to complete (weather
permitting) and two weeks for the grow in (weather
permitting).
Overall the project is going well and is on schedule to
open in late August. We will keep you posted when
we can confirm an actual date. If you have not been
following us on Twitter you are missing out on daily
pictures, updates and instant information/feedback.
Please follow us on Twitter @stivescc_vcsup.
See you on the course,

The St Ives Juniors are ready and the teams are set for the Fall 2013 Junior ALTA season. The
Juniors are about to embark into the seven week season with hopes of winning the ALTA City
Championships. The competition is tough, but the St Ives Juniors are ready to show their strength
against all opponents. Thank you to all the Team Captains and Co-Captains who are volunteering
their time during this Fall ALTA season. This month we will be holding a great Junior event: the End

Hope to see all the Juniors out here.
Happy Hitting To All,

St Ives Country Club Academy
The start of Fall 2013 will continue to offer the
St Ives Country Club Junior Tennis Academy. This
approach will continue building the Junior Tennis
Program by providing an in depth instructional
program designed for intermediate and advanced
players. Each Academy player will be placed in an
appropriate level based on two primary categories:
level of maturity and level of ability.
Fall Academy Schedule
August - October
Tuesdays 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Thursdays 5:00pm - 7:00pm
The primary goal of the Academy is to provide a
consistent learning environment that encourages
each junior to reach his or her full personal tennis
potential. The Academy will challenge the students
through different drills, conditioning and match
strategy. Monthly tactical themes will give the
students enough repetition to have a solid technical
base in all strokes. This program is designed for
students who have just started or are about to start
their first tournaments. Training in the St Ives
Academy along with private lessons with the
St Ives Country Club Tennis Professionals will
create a Junior tennis atmosphere and program
highly regarded in the Tennis Club Community.
