City Recognizes the
Citizen, Youth, and Older American
of the Year
Recipients of the City’s Citizen and Youth Recognition Program will be honored at the May 22 City Council meeting.
The Citizen and Youth of the Year awards are given to Westlake Village residents who are recognized for making
significant contributions to the City and for displaying a strong sense of volunteerism, civic pride, and
commitment toward the betterment of the community.
The City has selected Tami Miller as the 2013 Citizen of the Year. Ms. Miller
has been involved with White Oak Elementary School in many facets over
the years including operating the Wednesday after-school enrichment
program, multiple fundraising activities, and as co-chair for the White
Oak Fun Fair for the annual City Celebration program. In addition, Ms.
Miller has also created and continues to operate “Game On Westlake,” a
recreation sports program for adults and children for Westlake Village
and other surrounding communities. Before creating “Game On
Westlake,” Ms. Miller was involved with the National Junior Basketball
league for Westlake Village and the surrounding communities.
Additionally, the City has selected two youth of the year recipients. The first, Katya Kramer is a senior at Agoura
High School and a childhood junior shepherd leader at Calvary Church. In addition, Katya has participated in the
Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation Youth Congress Program, the Cultural Recreation Advisory Board as a
teen representative, and served as a volunteer for numerous City special events. Katya is also a member of the
women’s choir, math honor society, and tutors for math and science students at Agoura High School. Katya will
be pursuing a major in Liberal Studies at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
The second recipient is Brooke Rutherford, who is also in
her senior year at Agoura High School. At school, Brooke can
be found performing in the advanced choir or participating
as a theatre technician. In the community, Brooke is a
member of the National Charity League, volunteers in
therapeutic recreation, and tutors young children. She has
also participated in the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation
Youth Congress Program and has served as a special events
volunteer for the City. Brooke will be attending Marymount
College where she will be pursuing a major in Liberal Arts
with a minor in Music.
Each recipient
will receive a
commemorative
plaque from the
City and will
have their names
displayed on a
perpetual plaque
located in the
City Hall Council
Chamber. In recognition of these three fine residents, a $500
check will be donated to the White Oak PFC in Ms. Miller’s
honor, and both Katya and Brooke will receive a $500
educational scholarship.
For the past 48 years, the Los Angeles County
Commission for Older Adults has asked cities
to identify one older resident that exemplifies
the spirit of volunteerism in their community.
This year, the City selected Joanne Robinson to
represent Westlake Village. Ms. Robinson has
been an election inspector for both the City
and the County and a docent at the Reagan
Library for over 20 years. In addition, Mrs.
Robinson has also served on the Watergate
HOA Board as past President and Director for
over 35 years. She is also a member of the
City’s Cultural Recreation Advisory Board
where she serves on the Westlake Village
Entertains sub-committee. Ms. Robinson will
join her fellow award recipients at a luncheon
at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on May 22.
