ADVERTISING
Magazine space is no-cost to organizations or individuals caring for
animals who need homes. Monthly business sponsorship rates are $300/
150/75/35 for a full-page/half-page/quarter-page/business card ad in color,
and $200/100/50/25 for grayscale ads. A one year subscription is $25.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
Each organization in Critter has its own adoption criteria. All organizations
require an adoption contract and a fee to recoup basic expenses. All will
require that your adoptee be a pet, not merely a utility animal for protection
or hunting. Most will ensure that the animals are spayed or neutered at
the time of adoption; those that don’t will require a spay/neuter contract
and a deposit that will be refunded upon proof of spay or neuter. Most will
want to visit your home and see where the pet will live. Because many
of these animals have not been well treated in the past, extra care is
taken to ensure their safety and happiness in the future.

Shadefur is a shy girl who

Mister is an extremely friendly boy who

Bo Kitty is a handsome,
fluffy boy with an
outgoing personality.

Feral cats. Abandoned by their human families or simply lost, unsterilized housecats eventually band together in groups called colonies. Without
human contact for a prolonged period, the cats revert to a wild state. They make homes wherever they can find food. Mothers teach their kittens to
avoid humans and to defend themselves. Their numbers steadily increase, even if meager scraps are all the food to be had. No one knows exactly
how many feral cats live in the United States, but the number is estimated in the tens of millions. They are often wrongly portrayed as disease-ridden
nuisances, responsible for endangering native species. As a consequence, feral feline communities are frequently rounded up and because they
have had little or no human contact and are thus unadoptable, they are killed.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a comprehensive plan where entire feral colonies are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and neutered by
veterinarians. Kittens and cats that are tame enough to be adopted are placed in good homes. Adult cats are returned to their familiar habitat to live out
their lives under the watchful care of sympathetic neighborhood volunteers. TNR works. Cat populations are gradually reduced. Nuisance behaviors
associated with breeding, such as the yowling of females or the spraying of toms, are virtually eliminated. Disease and malnutrition are greatly
reduced. The cats live healthy, safe, and peaceful lives in their territories.
Spaying your female before her first litter will save 10 lives.
Join the battle against pet overpopulation in Knox County by
getting your female spayed before she has a first litter.

BORDER COLLIE
RESCUE
Max is between 2 and 3 years old.
He has a tri-colored mediumlength coat. Max is a little shy with
strangers, but once he knows you,
you will never meet a sweeter
dog. He has no alpha or
aggressive behavior and gets
along well with his foster brothers
and sisters. He does need a
fenced yard for his safety.
Katie came from a truly
horrendous situation of abuse.
She had spent almost her
entire life in a rusted metal
cage, and hardly knew how to
stand on firm ground when she
was rescued. She has
adjusted well to her new life of
good care, exercise, and TLC
and is ready to be adopted!
Gertie, Gertie, Gertie! This adorable 5 year
old Border Collie mix came to the animal
shelter as a stray. The shelter staff fell in
love with Gertie, and ETBCR wanted to
help Gertie find a forever family that will take
great care of her. Gertie is a happy-golucky sweetheart who loves being with her
human.

Pebbles is full of excitement
and loves to be with people!
She is standard size and has
a long, thick coat that she
loves having brushed. She is
3+ years old, walks well on a
leash, comes when called,
and sits on command.
Sara is a beautiful 1½ year old female.
She has a rough black and white coat
with a naturally docked tail. Sara is
housetrained and knows some basic
obedience. She is timid around
strangers and seems to be more
comfortable with women. She plays well
with other dogs.

she is perfectly happy sitting

Tommie does not have the Border Collie

house, jumped over the fence and came to the kitchen door at his
foster mom’s house. So, now he’s a house dog at his foster mom’s
house. He knows about drinking out of the toilet and finding snacks
on the kitchen counter (but is not allowed to do either). He seems to
be friendlywith other dogs, but he does not like cats! He loves to
