In preparation for our charge conference and looking forward to the future, I
have been focusing on the positive. Great things are happening here and in our
community. Are we there yet? No, our mission will never be accomplished as long
as we have breath. Now don’t let that discourage you; even if we cure illnesses of
the body and irradiate malaria, cure HIV and feed the entire world, the mission continues to grow and
change, and God willing, we will adapt and learn to transform mind and soul. In order to accomplish
soul transformation, I think the mind and body must be involved. I’d like to share with you a piece from

ples.) I don’t know about you, but I need to remind myself that I can and I will regularly or doubt and
fear begin to creep in. Doubt and fear can paralyze the mind and affect the soul. It can also, paralyze
a church. A church that turns in on itself will eventually die, unless new life and renewed mission grabs
a hold of the body. How do we work toward eternal life for the Hampton UMC so that generations to
come will be fortified by the saving grace of Jesus?
1. Keep Our Vision in Front of Us. Dare to dream big. What does the world need? What
does our community need? How can both take care of each other and provide for others

all in this race together, but we all run it a bit differently. We have things in place that

4. Have a Positive Mind Set. If you have a great idea, do not let others bring you down and
tell you why it can’t be done. You will not have all the answers and we cannot see the
future, but think positively, stay in love with Jesus and promise to follow His lead.

5. Commit to Excellence. Do your best and maintain high standards. When we begin a
project we have a vision, but sometimes lack of help and lack of money can feel like a wet
blanket. We are tempted to skimp. Resist the temptation! In all you do, do it for the glory
of God!
6. Keep Growing. Be proactive, be intentional, build on your gifts, and continually improve.
Stay connected to scripture. Make daily devotions a part of your life. Involve yourself in a
study and discussion group. Learn all you can so that you can share what you know with
others.
7. Serve Others. Invest yourself in relationships. Widen your circle and meet with people
who have different ideas, hopes and dreams. Learn about other people in your own backyard, other countries and other cultures. See how you can use who you are and what you
know to provide for God’s people financially, materially and spiritually.
8. Stay Passionate. Call on Jesus to continue stoke the fire within you. Find joy in
unexpected places. Be eager to share your delight for life with others around you.

The Franklin County Ministerial crisis fund is back at the United Methodist
Church for a year! 10 of the churches in Hampton give regularly to this fund to
insure people in need get help. In working together we insure one location is
giving aid so people do not have to go from church to church to seek help.
Along with funding for Rent, Water, Electric, Gas, Food, and Hygiene supplies,
we have also provided Transportation, Furniture, Bedding, Clothing, Coats,
shoes, Bicycles, Walkers, Meals, School Supplies, Temporary Housing, help
with government assistance forms, and warm and caring hearts for people who need to feel loved,
uplifted and respected. You are invited to help fund this important mission anytime.
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places
you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

For a time I felt as though my life had ended too. What we shared will always be with me.
My loved one’s influence still guides me. It lives within my heart and brings me strength and
comfort each day. Continuing to live has taught me to face each day remembering only the
happy memories. Though sadness still surrounds me at times, I am beginning to hope for
the future and to build new joyful memories for me and my family.
Please Keep in Your Prayers

Notes from Stewardship/Finance Committee
On behalf of the entire congregation, a very special THANK YOU goes out to Robbi Stevens for
her enthusiasm and effort to coordinate a very successful Baskets, Buckets, and Bundles event
on Sunday, September 18th. Great job, Robbi!
Pledged giving cards were mailed in early September. Please drop those in the offering plate or
deliver them in a confidential envelope by mail or by dropping them off at the church as soon as
possible. We would really appreciate everyone turning in their cards , even if your financial giving
to the church is not done through a pledge. This will save time and postage in making a second
request to those who have not turned in a response.
Sunday, October 16th, the congregation will share in a Free Celebration Meal immediately
following worship. At that time, we will celebrate what portion of our church budget has been
promised in pledged giving. Please plan to join us in this time of food, fellowship, and celebration!!

To Friends and Family of HUMC,
Thank you for reaching out to my family during our time of post-flooding.
You don’t know what it has done for my heart and my spirit. I know we will
get back to our “normal” that much sooner because of your prayers and
generosity.

Children First: Change a Child's Story
Parents: Call Sue (641-456-4238) to enroll your child in this great after
school program.
October 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm we will come together at the South Side
Elementary School to begin a reading program for children 1st through 3rd
grades.
We are planning for 20-25 children. Volunteers have been lined up, however, we can always use more. We will begin by reading, planning some fun
activities and programming for the children and then end with reading.
The school has been welcoming and offering hospitality for us to be there during this time.
Please, pray for the children participating, for the volunteers giving of their time and for God's
presence in the lives of all involved.
