Large Rubies from Tanzania and Mozambique
A few months ago we received a call from Arusha, Tanzania. A long
time colleague was there to buy Tanzanite. He had been offered
some high quality Ruby from Winza, Tanzania and Niassa,
Mozambique. Our friend doesn’t deal in Ruby, but he knew we
would be interested in buying them. We arranged to have the
Rubies shipped to us and are offering them in our catalog for the
first time. These are among the largest fine quality Ruby we have
ever offered. Each displays fine red color. Five of the listed Rubies
have gemological reports indicating no treatments. Ruby is the
birthstone for July and has been a popular gem throughout history.
It has a hardness of 9 and is spectacular in jewelry.

jewelry. The Jadeite petals are semi-translucent to opaque with nice definition. Each flower is carved from a single piece of Jadeite, which is

GIBEON METEORITE SLICES
Meteorites or “shooting stars” are estimated to have a space age of 4 billion years! Most were offshoots of planetoids which have traveled through
space for eons before crashing to the earth’s surface. In 1478 B.C., the
first record of a fallen meteorite was made. But it was 1492 when the earliest known observation and recovery of a meteorite took place.
We had a Gibeon meteorite from Namibia, Africa carefully cut into slices
which resemble flat tablets of metal. Many pieces show some outer skin
of the Meteorite which is 87% iron and 10% nickel with small amounts
of graphite, troilite and traversite. The meteorite was believed to have
entered the atmosphere at a 30º angle. Its unique crystallization is called
the Widmanstätten crystal structure and is the result of compression and
cooling in outer space for millions of years as it traveled to Earth. You
can actually see the striations of the structure on each side of the meteorite, which is pretty amazing when you contemplate that you are holding a part of the ancient universe in your hand!
