A Note From the President
In observance of the late automotive icon, Carroll Shelby, we are privileged to have him grace
our cover. We are not just ecstatic because of his contributions to the automobile industry but
to society. His baronial blueprints have literally placed a chokehold on the all too familiar and
raised eyebrows, showcasing his innate ability to challenge humanity with vicious velocity.
So, we salute Mr. Shelby for keeping us enthralled as both a racecar driver and a cultural
craftsman. And, what better issue to present this in besides this year’s Art/Entertainment motif!
This 300 plus page depository is a hodge-podge of skill, recreation, exhibition and pure pensive
pleasure.

Cisely
Saldana
Cisely Saldana was named after iconic
actress Cicely Tyson. Originally from Jackson
Heights, New York, at the age of nine, her
family uprooted and moved to Dominican
Republic - a defining moment of her youth.
Exposure to the country’s vibrant culture,
led her to pursue a career in ballet. After
spending seven years in DR, her family
returned to NYC.
Having experienced extreme culture shock,
the fifteen year old reacclimated to New York
through her interests in the performing arts.
During high school, she became a lighting
technician for the New York Youth Theater
Group and continued her pursuits at FACES
Maimonides Theater Network for Teens.
Inspired by her family, her biggest supporters;
interest in the performing arts flourished.
22
360 MAGAZINE
However, she knew she wanted to find
her niche on the business side of the
entertainment industry. She continued her
education, earning an Associates degree
from the Borough of Manhattan Community
College and her Bachelor of Science in
Business from Long Island University.
Although young, Cisely proved to be a
quick study with a keen eye for talent and
interesting projects; ultimately impressing all
who crossed her path. In 2002, she began
her role as a Talent Manager for 4 years
where she helped many new artists, while also
spearheading her sister Zoe Saldana’s early
movie career.
Inspired by life experience, her
ascendancy led to a small independent
film, La Maldicion del Padre Cardona;
picked up by HBO.
In order to produce film/TV projects, Cisely
co-founded Cinestar Pictures, LLC in May
of 2006; focusing on urban genres. Cisely
has found a true calling and passion
for production with her roles as both
Associate Producer for the film, A Kiss of
Chaos and Executive Producer for the
reality series, Celebrity Hero.
Cisely ushered in 2011 with the launch
of Saldana Productions at Sundance,
while receiving the Levi Strauss Producer
to Watch award. She has Director/
Producer credit alongside her sister and
actress Zoe Saldana on Vin Diesel’s The
Ropes. Cisely is undoubtedly a producer
to watch.

Red Bull
BC One
North
American
North America’s top b-boys will face-off, during the
Red Bull BC One North American qualifier, at the
Aragon Entertainment Center this summer in Chicago, Illinois.
Throughout four rounds of 1-on-1 battles, the competition
will feature b-boys that have made their way to the highest
platform of breakdancing - Red Bull BC One. Sixteen dancers will
fight for a spot to represent North America in the World Finals later
this year in Rio.
B-boys will display their styles reflecting their regional
backgrounds. With West Coast power moves meeting the
freezing styles of the East, fans of this complex dance style will
not be disappointed. At the end, only one of the 16 competitors
will emerge with the right to call himself the “Best B-Boy in North
America.” In addition to bragging rights, the victor will earn the
chance to represent North America at the Red Bull BC One World
Finals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this December.

B-boy Ronnie, the Las Vegas breaker who won the 2007 Red Bull BC One Finals in South Africa,
knows something about the importance of the United States qualifiers. He will join b-boys Float
and Machine to judge the Chicago event. Looking ahead, Ronnie said, “To win something this
big in America will mean so much. All the b-boys are training for this like it’s the Red Bull BC One
Finals. Whoever wins this, it’s going to be a big deal.”
As one of the four elements of hip-hop (along with MCing, DJing and graffiti) b-boying has
thrived in Chicago, a city with undisputed hip-hop cred. The ballroom inside of the Aragon
Entertainment Center is one of the Windy City’s most storied cultural landmarks and a
legendary dance venue, will serve as the arena for a day of battles that will help shape the
future of b-boying. Skeme Richards, who serves as the DJ for the legendary Rock Steady Crew,
will provide music for the night; and hosting the event is RAKAA, representing the Dilated
Peoples, the Rock Steady Crew and UZN.
The 16 b-boy competitors include the following: Ken Fury (New York City), Domkey
(Philadelphia), Ronnie Ruen (Los Angeles), Villn (Sacramento), Tata (Brooklyn), Evol (Chicago),
Nasty Nate (Houston), Fléau (Canada), Mijo (Milwaukee), MN Joe (St. Paul), Bebo(Brockton),

Carroll
Shelby
the Driver...
the Creator...
the Philanthropist
Probably best known for his creations of the Shelby
Cobras and Mustangs, Carroll Shelby was first
recognized as a notable race car driver. In fact, he was
named Driver of the Year by Sports Illustrated for two
consecutive years (1956 - 1957). Shelby’s creative mind
led to numerous attempts at entreprenuership before
his iconic rise to Automotive Legend.
In 1941, Shelby enlisted straight into the United States Army
Air Corps. He served as a flight instructor at Lackland Air
Force Base, near San Antonio, during World War II. Upon
his return in August 1945, he invested in several business
ventures, one of which was a chicken farm.
Two years into his chicken raising, they died from
limberneck disease, bringing the business to an end.
Three years later he drives his friend’s MG in his first
amateur drag race. A few months following, he
uses that same car for a competition set in Norma,
Oklahoma, where he wins his first race.
Not only was Shelby developing a championship
32

career, unbeknownst to him,
he was setting fashion statements as well.
In August of 1953, Shelby ran a foot race in
his bib-striped overalls. Realizing the positive
attention he received, Shelby decided to stick
with his newfound garb; quickly becoming a
trademark image for his brand.
Shelby won two races that catapulted his
amateur racing to a professional automotive
career. He became a driver for Cad-Allard,
Aston Martin and Maserati teams. More
specifically, with a 4.1-liter Mexiso Ferrari,
Shelby won the Torey Pines competition of
1955. That win eventually led him to the
European race circuit; where he won the
24 Hours of LeMans 1959 competition with
his co-driver, Roy Salvadori. This resulted in
Aston-Martin’s acquirement of the World
Manufacturing Championship. Victories
continued throughout 1956 and 1957; leading
him to the Sports Illustrated’s Driver of the Year.
Upon winning his third USAC National Drivers
Championship in 1960, his racing career came
to a screeching halt.
As the record shows, Shelby was not a standstill
type of fellow. With outstanding visions and
great drive, he decided to open Carroll Shelby
Sports Cars in 1957. In February of 1962, he
fabricated a 260 and four-speed automobile.
With the cult-classic Shelby Cobras, Ford
dominated the 1960s racing scene and inspired
six decades of automobile construction and
design. In fact, he collaborated on the 2013
Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang; this beast is
equipped with a V8 engine which outputs 650
horsepower, boasting to be the world’s most
powerful in its class.

Success
is Simple:
A talk
with Joe
Stella Iman Dugal
“You don’t count the stripes on a zebra, you
enjoy them.”
Let us take a moment to learn the vertebrae
of Joe Moller’s success: seizing opportunity,
consistent networking and hard work. Joe is not
the President of Joe Moller Events, Executive
Director of Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, and
occasional reality television participant (all before
hitting the age of 40) because of sheer luck. Joe’s
life is the classic, American, pulling himself up by
his bootstraps, success story.
As he pondered on his previous life experiences,
it was concluded that many of us who were
raised lesser privileged, seem to be motivated
by possibilities the future offers; and thus, not only
its opportunities for financial gain. He stated,
“The importance of having wealth was not the
primary goal as much as the importance of
having opportunity,” a confession he shared
during a high school speaking engagement.
Joe was a beneficiary of philanthropy and social
programs growing up and now it is his turn to give
back. Naturally, he is no stranger to communal
participation and outreach; in fact, he was
named Philanthropist of Year by the Society of
Young Philanthropists in 2007.
40
360 MAGAZINE
For the first time, this past May, Art Walk launched
an after school enrichment program which taps
into the inner artist of urban youth. One of the
missions of the program is to challenge the idea
ingrained in young artists’ minds that they cannot
earn a living from producing fine art.
“You don’t count the stripes on a zebra, you
enjoy them,” is what Joe explained during the
interview concerning the topic on exhaustion. He
is the type of busy that hardly has the time to get
around to updating his headshots for a magazine
feature. But, it is all for a good cause and more
importantly, he truly enjoys the constructive
energy he puts back into the world. One may
only hope he finds a special someone to
reciprocate that same love and passion. We
might witness just that on September 2012 as he
takes on the quest to find love on the hit show,
“Millionaire Matchmaker.”

The End of
Swedish House
Mafia?
Lenox Magee
Before Swedish House Mafia head off into the sunset, the dance
music trio plan on a long goodbye with a farewell album, Until
Now, and one final tour - their last show was in Miami, where it
all started for the trio, on March 15th. This all happens less than
a year after selling out 20,000 seats at Madison Square Garden
in nine minutes, Swedish House Mafia decided to call it quits.
But, fans are still wondering what happened, why split?
“Because we did this move, we hope to find ourselves in a
situation where we do not know what we’re doing, which is sort
of us trying to create some sort of chaos, mix shit up a bit for
ourselves,” Sebastian Ingrosso told Rolling Stone Magazine.
360 MAGAZINE 53
Swedish House Mafia are Sebastian Ingrosso, 30, Steve Angello, 31, and Axel
“Axwell” Hedfors, 36 — three DJs with solo careers who run their own labels, but have
synergetically skyrocketed together. But, they weren’t always called Swedish House
Mafia. The name “Swedish House Hegarty” was adopted initially, but the group then
resorted to their current name after it first appeared on forums and was used to
encapsulate the group of producers that were working together in the future. The
group officially formed in late 2008. Angello and Ingrosso met as children in Stockholm;
Axwell was not a member until multiple years later when they contacted him after a
chance meeting.
“But we’ve been through everything together. I can always lean on one of their
shoulders and they can lean on mine. I can always trust their opinions. When I have
a track, they tell me straight away what they think. With Swedish House Mafia, you’re
with friends….,” Angello said.
From Left to right:
Axel “Axwell” Hedfors,
Steve Angello and
Sebastian Ingrosso.
54
360 MAGAZINE
In 2010, Swedish House Mafia won the “Best Swedish Act” award at the MTV European
Ballz awards 2010. In 2011, Swedish House Mafia released a new single, “Save the
World,” featuring John Martin on vocals, which charted at #10 in the UK Chart,
released in May 2011. On 23 September 2011, it was confirmed that the group would
play at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 16 December 2011 and Milton
Keynes Bowl on 14 July 2012.
In January 2012, Swedish House Mafia won an EBBA Award at the European Border
Breakers Awards. After exploding onto the scene in 2010, the Swedes followed up their
huge genre-defining club track ‘One’ with the Worldwide platinum-selling single ‘Miami
2 Ibiza’ featuring Tinie Tempah. Both tracks appeared on their double gold-selling
compilation album ‘Until One,’ which is still in the top 50 chart nearly two years after
its release. The boys followed this with top 10 UK single ‘Save The World’ last Summer.
2012 so far has seen the release of their
highest charting single to date - ‘Antidote’ - a
collaboration with Pendulum’s Knife Party, a
second bigger and better Masquerade Motel
in Miami and the release of the incendiary
‘Greyhound’ (an all-Swedish collaboration
with Absolut Vodka).
In an recent interview with Rolling Stone,
Ingrosso referred to the break-up as an
experiment. He implied that their stratospheric
rise, with its ensuing copycats, might have
sped up their decision to depart.
“Dance music is moving so fast, if somebody
does a track with a successful sound,
everybody does it the second day,” he says.
“So you have to try and develop more and
faster. That could be one thing that led to
where we are today. Because we did this
move, we hope to find ourselves in a situation
where we do not know what we’re doing,
which is sort of us trying to create some sort of
chaos, mix s#!t up a bit for ourselves,” Ingrosso
said. “It’s an experiment to ourselves.”
The parting is an amicable one: The producers
feel they’ve accomplished all they can
together, and they’re going to get back to
their own projects. As part of that experiment,
the three members are giving themselves
the liberty to work together in the future in
different pairings. Ingrosso feels like dance
music is moving so fast, and there are a
plethora copycats out there stealing music.
360 MAGAZINE 55
“If somebody does a track with a
successful sound, everybody does it the
second day. So you have to try and
develop more and faster and next,”
Ingrosso says. “So that could be one
thing that led to where we are today
[calling it quits].”
Angello has performed in every corner
of the globe, headlined Coachella and
Madison Square Garden and started SIZE
Records, While it’s unknown as to what
the other duo DJs will do separately,
one thing certain: the trio will never stop
making music.
Their latest successful track,
“Don’t You Worry Child,” the group’s
latest single, has become its first Top 10
hit — and, frankly, it’s the band’s only true
American crossover smash. “Don’t You
Worry Child” plays like a gentle farewell
message. All of the familiar elements are
here: stabbing, syncopated synths, the
patented house music drum build-up,
the acoustic guitar interlude and, most
important, the desperate message of
reassurance and rejection of nihilism.
The narrator confesses fear, remembers
heartbreak and takes refuge in the
music he loves and his father’s advice:
“Heaven’s got a plan for you,” goes
the chorus. John Martin, the voice of
“Don’t You Worry Child,” has worked with
the Swedish House Mafia before. The
Stockholm singer-songwriter lent his voice
to the Coldplay-like “Save the World,” a
2011 record that established the Swedish
House Mafia as stateside stars. Save the
World” has been described as a big,
muscular, brotherly arm wrapped around
everybody on the dance floor.
“We’ve done things I never thought I’d
do! I talk to my friends about those things,
like being able to do Madison Square
Garden, or going up on a headline slot
at a festival against a band like Coldplay.
We never thought we’d be doing that. All
of a sudden you’re there in front of 60,000
people and everyone is going nuts to your
music. We grew up loving what we do,
and Swedish House Mafia was a special
example of the idea that if you love
something and you work hard enough,
you’ll get there.”
It seems that “Don’t You Worry Child”
plays like a gentle farewell message. All of
the familiar elements are here: patented
house music drum buildup, melancholy,
the acoustic guitar interlude. The narrator
confesses fear, remembers heartbreak,
takes refuge in the music he loves and his
father’s advice.
“Heaven’s got a plan for you,” goes the
chorus.

Sean Paul

PopSuperstar
Releases
“Tomahawk
Technique”
International superstar Sean Paul released his highly anticipated new
album “Tomahawk Technique” in the United States on VP/Atlantic
Records. Anchored by the recently released smash single “How
Deep Is Your Love” featuring Kelly Rowland, “Got 2 Luv U” featuring
Alexis Jordan and “She Doesn’t Mind,” “Tomahawk Technique” has
already topped the charts across the globe after being released with
rave reviews.
“I took a different approach on this album in every way,” said
Sean Paul. “I worked with a lot of pop producers and challenged
them to make their interpretation of a dancehall beat while also
collaborating with some artists I’ve always admired but never had
the chance to work with.
The reaction to the album so far has been incredible but I am
excited for it to come out in the States and to be able to support it
with a great tour.”
“Tomahawk Technique” is the next step in Sean’s continual pop
dominance, the next in a wave of classic albums that also includes
the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning classic Dutty Rock and the
platinum smash The Trinity. With an undeniable track record for
crafting hit singles as a solo artist, including cuts like “Get Busy,”
“Gimme The Light,” “Like Glue,” “We Be Burnin’” and “Temperature,”
as well as a history of taking other artists’ songs to the next level
through tracks like Beyonce’s “Baby Boy,” Jay Sean’s “Do You
Remember” and Eve’s “Give It Up To You,” Sean Paul has established
himself as one of the seminal pop voices of his generation. These
successes have earned him a plethora of awards including the 2006
American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist.

Triumph’s Street
Triple 675
A New Street Movement
This truly impressive middleweight street motorcycle has been acclaimed by critics around the world.
The all-new 2013 model is even punchier, better balanced and more exhilarating.
The new chassis has a more dynamic specification, giving you agility and precision while keeping you
planted, and better weight distribution and geometry give you an athletic, responsive ride.
The heart of the Street Triple is the throbbing 675cc triple, delivering 106PS and 68Nm of torque. It’s so
good you’ll have trouble believing its only 675cc. The torque and sound of the liquid cooled 12 valve
triple, combined with a close ratio six speed gearbox produce an exciting ride, and the under-engine
silencer helps lower the centre gravity and improve handling.
It looks even better too, with stylish brushed metal finishes, aggressive headlights and a choice of
colored coded styling accessories complementing the dark powder coated engines and frames.

Somebody You
Still Know
Stella Iman Dugall
Center stage of the Radio City Music Hall in pitch darkness, a spotlight adorned a standing Gotye with
a keyboard and microphone- sheer simplicity. With no curtains to be drawn in the midst of his opening,
a vibrant array of animations danced across a desolate HD screen to the drummers beat. A few bars
later, Kimbra eloquently sings, “Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over” in the soulfulpop collaboration, “Somebody That I Used to Know” from his latest album Making Mirrors. This stylish,
diverse, sold-out, crowd that slightly resembles a United Colors of Benetton advertisement, immediately
jumped to their feet. What an epic experience that words will always fall short in describing.
When Science and Technology invite Music to join a triad wed, the perfect eclectically arises: Australia’s
very own Gotye, formerly known as Wouter (Wally) de Backer. There is a plethora of information
concerning his mega hit, anecdotally mentioned above, but it seems as though the U.S is still
deciphering this, Gotye. He is a multi-instrumentalist and certainly holds musical engineering skills, which
goes without saying if you know he built his studio in his parents’ barn.
Whether Gotye may be labeled as a musician or “tinkerer” is of no concern. Similar to musical artist
Kanye West, Gotye is a master of sampling and blending sounds. “Sampling was a real breath of fresh
air… I just felt really excited when I kind of discovered taking breaks from records and treating the
material on lots of cheaply available and interesting music to me that I’ve never heard of.”* Followers
know his gift of birthing these individualistic sounds from inspirational gadgets ranging from oversized
metal strings attached to a fence to peas dropping on a surface to resemble a snare. He may find
inspiration from simply scrambling eggs, he shares on a Google + hang out with some fans.
Music is certainly in the ears of the beholder and to Gotye’s advantage, there have been at least
3.3 million views of “Somebody I Used to Know” on Youtube and has about 839,527 listeners of all
time, according to Last.fm. Certainly there are enough ears that behold his unique popish sound as
profound music.
What sets Gotye apart from other pop artists is his value of quality over quantity. In fact, it took about six
months to finalize “Somebody I Used to Know”. He is not too worried about elapsed time while creating
songs, “taking two years to make a record was not because I was working on that record everyday for
two years refining, refining, refining… then I decide they weren’t right of that album or just, you know,
it was a little journey that I took that was fun, interesting and taught me something. Then something
sparks and a song happens.Ӡ Pop music has always been revered for its sound, and what it has lacked
in lyrical significance has been made up in its infectious rhythm. Gotye combines intrinsic melodies
along with lyrics that connote below surface analysis that is not at the least pretentious. Often times
using sound experimentations to prompt his song writing. His music and videos are simply, pleasantly
engaging. Gotye being a nominee in the MTV 2012 Video Music Awards for “Video of the Year” speaks
to his talent. He was in the running with some big names, the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry and M.I.A, all of
whom have large fan bases.
It is safe to say that Gotye has officially crossed over and grassroots fans ask, will it change him or his
style like previous artists that tip toe into the American music market? No, Gotye is one of those gems
that will probably choose not to compose for the sake of mass-production. Awarded with the 2012
Australia Aria’s Music Awards for “Album of the Year” shows that time put forth for perfection is not
hindering. He values the rarity of his art and is careful not to dilute the quality. The essence of his music
encompasses creativity and imagination that is unique to the producer.

YELLING TO THE SKY:
A VICTORIA MAHONEY FILM
STARRING ZOE KRAVITZ
An Official Selection of the 2011 Berlin Film Festival and the SXSW Film Festival, Yelling to the Sky stars
Zoe Kravitz (X-MEN: First Class, the forthcoming Mad Max: Fury Road) as Sweetness O’Hara, an introspective
and shy inner-city teenager who unsuccessfully tries to quietly blend into the crowded halls of her high
school. But an increasingly complex home life, and a persistent, growing threat at school, soon carry her into
a world of reckless ambivalence.
A visceral coming-of-age story, Yelling to the Sky features a sobering, breakthrough performance from
Kravitz, with an all-star supporting cast including Jason Clarke (Public Enemies, Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark
Thirty, Baz Lurhman’s The Great Gatsby); Gabourey Sidibe (Best Actress nominee for Precious, Tower Heist);
Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and Antonique Smith (Abduction, Notorious).
Yelling to the Sky is the feature directorial debut of writer-director Victoria Mahoney, who began her career
as an actress in such films as Reese Witherspoon hit Legally Blonde. She received the Lynn Auerbach
Screenwriting Fellowship and an Annenberg Film Fellowship for Yelling to the Sky. Filmmaker magazine
recently named Mahoney one of its “25 New Faces of Independent Film.”

The Clan
Film produced by Lougi di Giorgio and Coop films production and with the cooperation of Film Canary
Islands. In its first incursion into festivals, it was officially selected to Raindance 2012 (London) but the
producers had to retire it due to post production adjustments.
Nowadays, He is working in the development of the script of a film called Cataclysm for the USA. The
project was originally conceived as a tv series but It has been adapted to a feature film.
About J. Falero and El Clan
Jaime Falero has a degree in dramatic art, specialized in performance. He has worked from his
beginnings with Goya, Spanish cinema awards, awarded actors and actresses like Maribel Verdú or
Jose Sancho or other nominated actors like Javier Cifrián or Carlos Bardem.
Falero considers himself a humble cinema worker who does not conceive a shooting with less than thirty
shots filmed daily, as can be seen in El Clan, a thriller set in the thirties, shot in twenty one working days
with more than 650 shots. The budget was also smaller than 500.000 Euros.
His main virtue is to make the budget grow and multiply by 5 or 10 in the outcome, with complex shots
planned by the director in the well-prepared storyboards. They are conceived to get from them the
best economic and artistic performance.
