Department of Biotechnology
Bon Secours College for Women was established in the year 2002 by Bon Secours
Sisters, a religious congregation dedicated to the emancipation and empowerment of
Women by imparting education of the highest grade.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Botany and Biotechnology was established in the year 2003 and
2005 respectively with an objective of imparting quality education and understanding the
dynamic nature of Botany & Biotechnology. The Department has a family of Enthusiastic
students, Committed Teachers and Independent thinkers working and learning together to
shape the future. The department is well equipped with infrastructure and facilities that
fulfil the requirement of syllabi as per the guidelines of the university.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
The BonsEye Association of
Department of Botany and Biotechnology
was Inaugurated on 24.7.12. The Chief
Guest Dr. K. Ashok Ayyappa, Post Doctoral
Fellow,Centre for Nanotechnology and
Advanced Biomaterials, SASTRA University
addressed on “Molecular Genetic
Perspectives of Disease Etiology”
The Association conducted various
competitions like Science Quiz, Talent
Hunt, Collage, Art from Waste, Debate,
Science Tricks and Variety Entertainment
on 26.7.12 and 27.7.12 and prizes were
distributed to the winners.

on 7.8.12 & 8.8.12.
BONSEYE Association and BONEXEXNORA together organized a Seminar
and Exhibition on “Global Protection” on
01.10.2012. The Chief guest of the day Dr.
Vijikumar, Director of TNSRO, Arimalam,
Pudukottai(Dt) delivered a lecture on “
Agro Biodiversity Conservation on
Sustainable Food Safety.”
The Department organized a
“Science Exhibition” on 9.10.2012. The
Principal
Dr.Sr.C.A.Mariammal
inaugurated the exhibition
College of Arts & Science at Salem on
14.09.2012.
Four students participated in
“ATHENS- 2012” organized by ‘Green
Germinate’ held at ARC Vishwanathan
College
of
Arts
and
Science,
Mayiladudhurai, on 6.10.2012.
BONSEYE Association and BONEXEXNORA together conducted Collage and
Drawing competitions on “Women in
India” on 8.3.13. The winners were
awarded with prizes.
The Students with faculty went on
an Industrial visit to “Indian Institute of
Crop Processing Technology”, Thanjavur
on 08.02.13.
ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS
Final year students participated in
the “One Day Space Test” organized by
Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore on
1.7.12.
Seven Students participated in
“BIOMERITZ” Competitions organized by
Department of Biotechnology, Jeyaram
Four Students participated in the
“National
Environment
Awareness
Campaign(NEAC) 2012 - 2013” on
10.10.2012 at Rajah Serfoji Government
College, Thanjavur in connection with The
Ministry of Environment and Forest, New
Delhi and won District level first prizes in
Drawing and Essay Writing Competitions.
Four students participated in the
“National Seminar and Inter College
competitions” on “Stem Cell Therapy”
held at St. Joseph College, Trichy on
19.02.13.
Three students participated in
Muthamizh Vizha and won prizes in
Mehandhi, Essay writing and Rangoli
competitions on 11.1.2013.
Fifteen Students participated in
the
Intercollegiate
Competition
“CENITTREZ-13” organised by the
Department
of
Microbiology,
Bharathidasan University, Trichy, and our
students won prizes in various
competitions held on 26.2.13.
The
students
attended
“Aerospace-2013” – conducted by Periyar
Maniammai University, Vallam on 23.1.13.
Final year students participated in
DBT sponsored Seminar on “Popular
Lectures on Biotechnology”, organised by
PG & Research Dept of Zoology, Rajah
Serfoji Govt College, Thanjavur on 30.1.13.
Ten students participated in the
“National Seminar on Recent Trends in
Biological Chemistry & Intercollegiate
Competitions - Biobreeze 2013” organised
by Department of Biotechnology, Bharath
Institute of Science and Management,
Thanjavur, and won prizes in various
competitions held on 12.3.13.
Second year Students went on training
on Drying of Fruits and Vegetables, Seed
germination and Preservation of Bakery
items at Food Processing Business
Incubation Centre, Indian Institute of Crop
Processing and Technology, Thanjavur. on
24.05.2013, 28.05.13 & 20.5.13.
The BONEX EXNORA members
exhibited their talents and won prizes in
Collage making and Drawing competitions
on “Women in India” on Women’s Day 8.3.13.
