Product23 OP 6.5 TEACHING TUNING WORKSHOP
Introduction
Education inspires progress in society, but at the same time it must respond, with
foresight, to society, preparing adequate strategies for future programmes of
studies.
A teaching tuning experience involves several activities related to the exposition of
the teaching activity to the interested. In the framework of VITEG Project, teaching
Tuning experience consist on the creation of courses related to the postgraduate
education, in order to prove that the course is attractive to attendees. In these
courses, students are surveyed about the quality of the webpage, the quality of the
taught subject, the visibility of the Virtual Learning Platform. Besides, as in any
course, students had to pass an exam and received their marks. The main topics
of the course developed in the frame of VITEG Project were related to Green
Technology.
In general terms, the main phases of a Teaching Tuning Experience are the
consultation with 'actors' or 'stakeholders', the definition of academic and
professional profiles and the translation of these into desired learning outcomes.
Tuning identified indicative generic competences or transferable skills and
described the then commonly used subject-specific competences in terms of
knowledge, skills and understanding for nine subject areas. Another phase of

tuning is related to how to implement competences, defined on the bases of
identified requirements of society and foreseen social developments besides
scientific developments in the subject area concerned, in terms of approaches to
teaching, learning, and assessment.
The Pilot Experience Report aims to present the pilot activities from UPM and
BUCKS which were developed during the 30 months of the project.
The teaching tuning experiences developed during VITEG Project showed that an
indicative sample of employers, graduates and academic staff were in broad
agreement about the modules developed.
The comparison of approaches to learning, teaching and assessment from the
viewpoint of subject areas on a European wide scale is a new step forward in
making higher education transparent.
Under VITEG Project three pilot experiences have been developed, with a range of
people covering a diverse range of students, ranging from students who are
currently completing their college career to graduates who are enrolled in higher
education.
The first experience was developed with the students of the Master on Waste
Management (UPM). The second experience was developed with the students from
Computing of BUCKS. And the last experience consisted of an international
summer course on Environmental Impacts on the island of El Hierro for attendees
of all kinds.

SUMMARY
El Hierro is the most westerly and the smallest island of the archipelago. The island
has the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation and is home to natural swimming
pools and crystal clear waters, ideal for swimming and scuba diving, as well as huge
areas of protected woodland in the inland area. All those reasons made el Hierro an
ideal place to make relaxing holidays in direct contact with nature.
The summer course will be held in El Hierro, Canary Islands, Spain, during the last
days of July (from July 28-30, 2014). RECLAND and VITEG 2014 is an international
forum for the presentation of technological advances and research results in the fields
of Climate Change and Green Technology. The course is given in Spanish and English.
