Dear Friends:
As we reflect back on this fiscal year (November 1, 2014 – October 31, 2015), we
are filled with gratitude, pride and hope. We sincerely thank you for investing in
restoring smiles and lives. Because of your support, more survivors of domestic
violence can now proudly walk into job interviews without feeling judged and
embarrassed and moms can pose and smile proudly for family pictures for the
first time in 10 years.
As the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation (AACDCF)
works to fulfill our mission, we are guided by four strategic areas of focus. We are
proud to share some of this year’s accomplishments in each of the four areas:
Foundation Awareness
• As part of our continued efforts to increase awareness of Give Back a Smile (GBAS)
services, we contacted 650 agencies across the nation who work directly with
domestic violence survivors to inform them about the program.
• In the last year, the number of applications for GBAS services increased by 5%.
• We launched a new responsive website that is easier to navigate.
Volunteer Support
• We recruited 150 new volunteer dentists this year and maintained a volunteer
retention rate of 90%.
• The Foundation disbursed more than $18,000 to support the outside expenses (i.e.
lab material costs or specialist fees) required to complete smile restorations.

survivors of domestic and sexual violence who need GBAS services, thank you for

• This year, four major funding sources exceeded budget!
Charitable Impact
• Eighty-seven GBAS cases were reported complete for a total value of $734,500 in
donated dental services.
• The AACDCF awarded a total of $15,000 in educational scholarships for GBAS
smile recipients enrolled in college.
• Sixty-six new GBAS applicants were connected with a volunteer dental office to
have their smiles restored.

Thank You NYU Students
The AACDCF extends a special thanks to the NYUCD Aesthetics Society who
has selected the Give Back a Smile (GBAS) program to be the benefactor of their
philanthropic efforts. The all-student driven effort hosts an annual Gala in New York
City. Since their first event in 2012, they have raised more than $50,000 for the
GBAS program! The NYUCD Aesthetics Society was honored at the 2015 American
Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Annual Scientific Session for their outstanding
support of and dedication to the GBAS program.

2015 Virtual Race for Smiles
Power of
Gold Winner
The AACDCF was awarded a 2015 Power of A Gold Award by the American Society of
Association Executives (ASAE). Power of A Awards showcase how associations leverage
their unique resources to solve problems, advance industry/professional performance,
kick start innovation, and improve world conditions. This year GBAS was one of thirty
programs selected for a Gold Award from 140 entries.
The AACDCF is thrilled to be recognized for the life changing work we are doing in the
lives of domestic and sexual violence survivors. One GBAS recipient described it best,
“It’s hard to put into words how much this opportunity has changed my life. Even after
the completion of my new smile, it took time to realize that I no longer needed to place
my hand in front of my mouth when speaking or laughing. I’m so thankful. Not only
did these people give me back my smile, but also gave me back my life.”
Between October 9 - 11, more than 200 people around the U.S. got out in very creative ways to
support Give Back a Smile while raising awareness of domestic violence.
