Electrical gauges are designed with a silicone dampened air core movement. A coil
of wire is wound around a bobbin with a center magnet. When an electrical current
is applied to the coil, the gauge pointer moves to the resulting electrical field. Wire,
electrical terminals and 12V DC from the vehicle are required for installation. 270o
sweep. Electrical gauges include amplifier and sender; this matched calibrated set
is required for operation.

For over 50 years, Isspro has focused on pyrometers. Excessive heat is one enemy of the
turbocharger. The maximum input of a turbocharger is approximately 1400°F. Temperatures
above this will deteriorate the turbo housings, crack them and foul the compressor wheels,
intake and exhaust manifolds as well as cylinders will crack. A pyrometer is an exhaust
temperature gauge that allows you to read an immediate change in exhaust temperature by
receiving a temperature signal from a probe (thermocouple) that is inserted into the exhaust
manifold. This constant monitoring of temperature changes alerts the driver to temperature
problems well before indications would be received from a typical water temperature gauge.
Equipment operators use pyrometers to diagnose engine problems and drive more efficiently,
prolonging engine life and reducing fuel consumption.

located after the turbo-charger

Standard Features of
Pyrometers:
To design your own pyrometer system, you will need:
3 Pyrometer. To choose the proper pyrometer, determine the temperature range (most diesel and gas engines range from 0-300 bottom end
of the scale to 1500-1800 top end of scale); and size of the mounting
hole. To determine your safe maximum exhaust temperature,
run a well-tuned engine at full rpm and horsepower on the inertia
dynamometer or under a loaded pull. Note the exhaust temperature
and subtract 200 degrees. This is your safe maximum exhaust
temperature. This temperature may be exceeded for a short period
and will not cause serious damage. Stay in the upper one third of
your temperature range as much as possible. Operation in the lower
range isn’t as critical as exceeding the maximum range.
3Leadwire. High temperature extension type leadwire available in 10’,
16’ and 20’ lengths. Aircraft quality Kapton leads are encased with a
flexible wire braid to protect them from heat and abrasion. When heat
is applied to the junction, a tiny voltage is produced and travels up the
leadwire to the gauge. It is important never to solder the leadwire, as
each solder joint will act as an additional junction generating voltage.
3 Thermocouple. Type K thermocouple with ¼” NPTF mounting.
Also available with a ¼” brass slip nut for easy depth adjustment. This
thermocouple produces – 1.63mV at 0°F and 26.03mV at 1200°F.
The thermocouple is the power source of the whole system. Two
different types of metal are induction welded together in the tip of
the thermocouple. The tip is made of stainless steel and is filled with
a ceramic material.

Turbo Temperature Module
This module can help eliminate early turbo charger failure. When the engine ignition is turned
off, the turbo temperature monitor takes over and idles down until a safe exhaust temperature is
reached. At that point the engine automatically stops. By shutting down in a safe, cool condition,
deposits are reduced and turbo life is increased. A leadwire and thermocouple are needed
for a functioning system. Your existing pyrometer system can be used or a new leadwire and
thermocouple can be installed. See Page 7.

Engine Shutdown without Gauges
This shutdown kit is recommended if your equipment has factory-installed instruments making
the gauges in a shutdown panel redundant, or if the equipment articulation is such that mechanical installation is physically impossible. The Isspro shutdown kit is a solid state shutdown with
delay. The relay is built to handle heavy switch loads such as fuel solenoids. Includes shutdown
box (30 second delay), low water probe, low oil pressure switch (7-9 psi), high water temperature
switch (225°F), warning label, warning light, and buzzer with 15 second delay for engine start.

changes. Instructions help you calculate percentage of increase or decrease necessary
