What is Positive Behavior Intervention and Support or PBIS?
Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is a schoolwide system of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create a positive school environment. PBIS at Carroll Hill School At the start of the school year, all students will participate in the PBIS kick off activity. Students will be reminded how to display expected behaviors of being
Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Kind
and
Their Best.
Reminders of these expectations will be posted throughout the school. Students who demonstrate and model appropriate behaviors are rewarded with Cougar Cards, which are redeemable at the school store. Please review the behaviors below with your child(ren). Carroll Hill Behavior Expectation

PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO) 20152016 PTO Meeting Dates September 21 December 14 March 14 June 13 October 19 January 11 April 11 November 9 February 8 May 9
A great way to learn more about your child’s school, to connect with other parents and become more involved with your child’s education is to join the PTO. The Parent Teacher Organization plays an important role in building the kind of supportive school environment where teachers and students alike can do their best work. Why is the PTO important to the education of our children? The PTO sponsors numerous activities at Carroll Hill School and provides family friendly events. The PTO makes these events economical for families by funding the programs through monies from Fundraisers. PTO funds also provide monies for class field trips and exciting assemblies and events mentioned below. Without PTO fundraisers, the programs that enhance the education of our children would not be available! Every student can make a difference – and every dollar made by the PTO will make a difference to your student! We hope that you will support our fundraisers. Please volunteer at one more events. Please call a PTO representative for more details. 20152016 Activities and Events: School Carnival

Mrs. Janna Spadoni/Mrs. Chris Dees EFFICACY MISSION The Efficacy Mission at CHS is Proficiency for all students and staff in the core subject areas and development of strong character through hard work, data based instruction and an unbending belief in the abilities of our children. Method=
Must be a databased system of selfdirected improvement, executed with equal force at all levels of the learning community Proficiency Targets=
These are what the students must know and be able to do, specific to the knowledge and application skills they must be able to perform. These targets are in each of the core subject areas at each grade level, to be communicated to both the student
and
the parents. *
Curriculum, instruction and assessment are simple the tools we use to move our children to proficiency* Academic Proficiency
Solid academic performance for each subject assessed.“Do they know it, and can they use it?” Character Proficiency
People with strong character understand that their behavior matters.“Do they know it, and do they show it?” Growth Mindset
People who hold a growth mindset believe that intelligence can be developed, that the brain is like a muscle that can be trained. This leads to the desire to improve. The belief that “all those who work can learn” is backed by modernday brain research. This is a healthy, positive model in which confidence and effective effort lead to development. Fixed Mindset
The belief that “some have itand some don’t” has crippling effects on people’s ability to learn. In this belief system, people are born with different amounts of intellectual capacity that determines how much they can achieve in life. This is a prevalent belief in American society that debilitates effort of adults and young people alike. Learning Orientation (LO)
After failure or difficulty, people in a learning orientation (LO) exhibit greater determination in their thoughts, feelings, and actions. They are guided by the question “how can I get better?” and always view failure and difficulty as valuable information about how to improve. Performance Orientation (PO)
People in a performance orientation (PO), enter tasks with the goal of proving that they have what it takes, and they look upon failure or difficulty as proof that they do not 10 have what it takes. When they encounter failure or difficulty, they demonstrate a helpless response they give up or stop trying. Failure And Difficulty Are Feedback (FADAF)
Instead of giving up in the face of failure or difficulty, FADAF encourages students to analyze their mistakes and challenges to understand what they need to do to accelerate their development. Data/Feedback/Strategy Method (D/F/S)
A method designed to meet with grade level colleagues to organize the “raw data” for ease of analysis, decide what the data means, as well as transform the data to meaningful feedback and use the feedback to change/improve teaching strategy. Dear Carroll Hill School Community: We would like to bring to your attention a very important matter that requires your cooperation. The ADP will start at 2:15 and end at 3:15 Monday through Friday. The purpose of the program is to curb the number of suspensions for less serious offenses, by having students accept consequences for their actions immediately. The ADP occurs after school so that students will not miss important instructional time. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of inappropriate actions by students. We are asking for your support for this program. An ADP referral form will be submitted by the teacher who is referring the student for the program to the office by 1:00 PM.
