LET’S TALK ABOUT... SAFE RIDING
by Tina Shambaugh - HOA Staff
We usually talk about driving safely in Legacy Park. The topic today is kids on
bikes. I am one of those moms who picks up my student at the back gate in
Lullwater at the end of the school day. What worries me are the kids
biking home; I see many of them speeding down the middle of road,
weaving in and out of parked cars and walkers, onto the sidewalk, onto lawns,
and going through stop signs...Last year, as I was turning from Lullwater onto
the circle, two bikers crossed the street in front of me in a blur; they seemed to
come out of the blue. Something bad could happen just that fast.
Parents, will you remind your bikers to be aware of traffic around them? No
riding through front lawns, please. And fellow carpoolers, let’s agree to give
our bikers lots of extra room!
HOA News & Information
Property Management Update
The following report was provided at the August Board Meeting:
HOA Items:
• In nonresident sport fees, the HOA has collected $4,065.00 in 2012 ($2,090.00 in 2011). The majority of the increase is
attributable to the increase in the fees for nonresident soccer players.
• In vending machine proceeds, the HOA has collected $1,151.10 in 2012 ($1,025.25 in 2011).
• Budget preparation for 2013 is beginning. An article ran in the August newsletter and will run in the September newsletter
as well regarding this process. We are working on collecting bids for our landscape maintenance contract, pool management
contract and insurance policies.
• In collections, we have turned over nine new cases from Legacy Park and six new cases from Northgate to our attorneys to
file liens on the property. All properties currently in collections have been updated and we will be taking the next step in the
collection process.
Amenity Monitoring:
• We currently have security guards working full time, 56 hours per week, spanning across 7 days. They monitor all the
amenity areas, including playgrounds, the lake, etc. They provide us with a written report at the end of each shift. They will
continue this schedule through the end of August.
• Police continue to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Their current schedule is 6pm – 10pm. If anyone sees a
crime going on in Legacy Park on private property or at the amenities, they should contact 911, not the HOA, a Board
member or a neighbor; the Police are the proper authorities to handle a crime. When the officers work for the HOA off duty,
they monitor Legacy Park’s property and are not providing security to anyone’s personal property.
Playgrounds:
Recreation Station continues monthly inspections of the playgrounds and takes care of necessary safety issues. Re-staining of
play equipment has been now been completed in Olmsted, Palisades, Kentmere, Madison, Revere and Winterthur. Remaining
on the schedule are the Gramercy and Highcroft playgrounds.
2012 Projects & Maintenance:
• Completed Items: New directional signs have been installed at the entrance to Legacy Park Circle. All signs poles throughout
the neighborhoods have been painted. Many No Trespassing signs have been replaced around the circle. The signs at the
back entrance to Lullwater have been replaced again. The exterior trim of the clubhouse has been painted and the inside trim
has been touched up. A bench on the Town Green has been repaired and reinstalled.
• Scheduled Projects: The Amphitheater and Bandstand will be pressure washed and brick repair will be done. The curbs
around the circle will be painted this month. The gutters on the Winterthur and Lullwater pool houses will be replaced when
the pools close. We are working with the City to get some areas of the sidewalk around the circle repaired, which will
probably be on their schedule in 2013.
• Landscape: Ten dead trees have been removed, including two trees that had fallen across the creek, two at the entrance
to Olmsted that split and fell across the street and two that had fallen and were leaning over the trails. New mulch has been
added around the entrance to the Annandale Playground. General maintenance on the landscaping is done. Fall flowers will
be installed in October. In the fall, we will add some new landscape features to the entrance of Olmsted to replace the two
Bradford Pear trees that fell.
Winterthur Bridge Update
At the September 20, 2012 Board Meeting, the Board will be discussing the Winterthur Bridge project. Please mark your
calendar and plan to join us at the Clubhouse at 7:00 pm for this very informative meeting.

HOA News & Information
All Pools Close SEPTEMBER 4th
EXCEPT the Main Pool
Just a reminder that all of the Legacy Park pools,
except the Main Pool, will close for the season on
September 4th. The Main Pool will remain open through
Sunday, September 30th. The month of September
will be “Swim at your own Risk” during the week, with
lifeguards on the weekend. Please remember to follow
the rules – no one under age 16 is allowed at the pool
without adult supervision.
2013 Budget Planning
The Legacy Park HOA is in the process of preparing for the
2013 budget. All homeowners, Legacy Park groups, and
neighborhoods are welcome and encouraged to submit budget
requests to the HOA office. Requests should be made in
writing and submitted to the property manager by September
7th. Please include as much information as possible
concerning your budget request.
Requests will be reviewed by the appropriate committee
(if applicable), the Finance Committee, and the Legacy Park
Board of Directors during the 2013 budget planning process.
There is no guarantee that any or all requests will have funds
allocated, but all requests will be considered. The Finance
Committee meetings will be posted on the website; Legacy
Park members are welcome to attend to see the process of
preparing a budget for our community.
The budget will be presented for approval at the November
15th Board meeting. If you have any questions, or are
interested in serving on this committee, please contact Lisa
Neff at 770-919-2556 or via e-mail at
[email protected]. Remember, it is the
volunteers in Legacy Park that make this community GREAT!
OFFICIAL LEGACY PARK COMMUNICATION
In this day and time of mass communication opportunities,
please remember that the following are the “official” avenues
for communicating Legacy Park information: correspondence
on LP HOA letterhead; the Legacy Park Town Herald
newsletter, Legacy Park website, and Legacy Park e-mail
distribution from the property manager. These communication
tools are controlled and maintained by the Legacy Park HOA.
SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION
With all the local schools back in session, please
remember to watch out for children. Bus stops are at
intersections to roads and many parents drive and park
there. These areas can be very dangerous if you don’t pay
attention. By slowing down and using caution, you can help
prevent an accident. Let’s all do our part in keeping our
children safe.
GOLF CARTS IN LEGACY PARK
We have seen an increase in the number of golf carts
traveling through Legacy Park. The streets and sidewalks in
Legacy Park are maintained by the City of Kennesaw. The
use of golf carts on the streets and/or sidewalks falls under
the jurisdiction of the City.
Legacy Park’s Rules and Regulations provide that NO
motorized vehicles are permitted on Legacy Park's walking
trails or Town Green, unless prior approval is received from
the HOA. This includes: motorized scooters, motorbikes,
mopeds, and electric/gasoline hybrid vehicles, etc. Anyone
found violating this rule is subject to having their amenity
privileges suspended. Safety must always come first!
PARKING ALONG LEGACY PARK CIRCLE
The fall sports are starting up again in Legacy Park and the circle will be crowded on Saturday mornings and
throughout the fall tennis and seasons.
Please follow the guidelines below when parking along the circle within Legacy Park. Failure to do so could result in
ticketing and/or towing by the City of Kennesaw.
• Only park on the INSIDE of the circle
• Only park WITH the flow of traffic
• Do NOT park in any area where the curb is painted white (intersections and loading and unloading zones).
It is illegal to park within 30 feet of an intersection! There are signs posted in these areas as well!
• Do NOT park in front of the fire hydrants
• Do NOT park on both sides of the street!
Additionally, if there are cars parked along the circle, please SLOW DOWN! It can be difficult to see a child coming out
from between parked cars until it is too late. Slowing down and paying attention could save a life. The HOA has asked
the City for assistance with the parking issues, after all, safety is a top priority. Thank you in advance for your
cooperation!

Hello, Neighbors! This month marks a
very special event for our city. In
September of 1887, a petition was
presented to the Georgia State
Legislature for incorporation and the City
of Kennesaw officially came into being.
The original Articles of Incorporation
stated that the corporate limits of the town
shall extend one half mile, north, south, east and west from the
Depot of the Western and Atlantic Railroad; the mayor shall
have the power to levy and collect taxes; and nothing in this
act shall give the town authorities the right to grant license to
sell intoxicating liquors. Clearly, we’ve come a long since those
days. The little shanty town of the late 1800’s has now grown
to over 30,000 residents! We certainly have much to celebrate.
I hope you’ll join me on Saturday, September 8 during the
Taste of Kennesaw event for a brief 125th anniversary
commemoration program at 3 pm. In addition, stop by the
Southern Museum and purchase a commemorative t-shirt,
lapel pin or coin featuring a logo designed by Kennesaw
Mountain High School student Rachel Fred.
The schedule of events on September 8th also includes the
Great Locomotive Chase 5K at 7 am with proceeds
benefitting the Southern Museum. It’s the 4th race in the
Kennesaw Grand Prix series which takes place on a nice, flat
course winding through downtown and Swift-Cantrell Park.
These races have attracted thousands of runners and walkers
and have been the cornerstone of the city’s Fit City initiative,
encouraging residents to combat inactivity and embrace
healthier habits. Once you’ve gotten your daily exercise, you’ll
have the opportunity to sample all kinds of tasty offerings at
the Taste of Kennesaw, guilt-free!
Pet owners, take note. On September 15, take your dog to
Swift-Cantrell Park from 9 am – noon for the second annual
Paws in the Park. The purpose of the event is to focus
ttention on responsible pet ownership, and it will feature
service dog demonstrations, a dog costume contest, and pet
vendor booths offering free samples of pet products and
discounts on services. Be sure to say thanks to all the
sponsors and participants who support this fun and
educational event.

LET’S ALL
Keep Kennesaw Beautiful
BY
RECYCLING
The focus for our city government right now is the budget. The
City Council voted in August to leave Kennesaw’s
millage rate for 2012/2013 unchanged, so we’re asking our
city staff to continue to “do more with less” while still providing
the same exceptional level of service as always. It’s a daunting
task, but City Manager Steve Kennedy and his team are up to
the challenge. It is our sincere hope that the addition of new
developments like the student housing U Club on Frey project
and new home construction at subdivisions like Whispering
Lake off of Moon Station Road will help our property tax digest
get back on a positive track next year.
See you around town,
Mark

Education Committee – We need YOU!
Thursday, September 6
7:00 pm at the Clubhouse
With the new school year well underway, the HOA wants to focus attention on
the education of Legacy Park's students. The HOA is hosting a second open
house for residents who are interested in getting involved with the Legacy
Park Education Committee. If you have a background and/or interest in
Education - we need you! In a time where the budget cuts are many - we
must pull together and make sure we are meeting the needs of our future.
The Board wants to see this committee be community-focused, with its
attention on the education of Legacy Park's students and their parents,
across all public and private schools in our community. At the first
informational meeting on August 8, we were very excited to see such an
array of residents who are passionate about the education of both children
and adults.
We have scheduled another informational meeting for Thursday,
September 6 at 7:00 pm (at the clubhouse) and hope to solicit volunteers
from the community. Talk to your friends and neighbors and encourage
them to get involved. It’s volunteers that make this a great community.

Friday, September 14th from 7 pm to 10 pm. Lillian
Goulet had sign-up sheets at our August meeting
but if you weren't there and would like to bring an
appetizer, please give her a call at 678-401-3618.
Remember it is BYOB.
We are also excited about the Halloween Dinner
Party on October 12th from 6 pm to 10 pm at the
Clubhouse. Again anyone interested in bringing a
dish, please call Lillian for coordination. Also, we
are looking for a decorating committee this year.
Nikki Livingston and her team out did themselves
last year and it will be very hard to repeat but we
have many talented people in the club that can do
a great job! Please call Lillian if you are interested
in heading this up.
There will be elections at this November's meeting
(November 14th). Our Nominating committee
members are Joe Marbury and Ricardo Reluzco. If
any person would like to have their names placed
on the ballot, please let them know. This is one of
the most important meetings this year, so please
plan on attending. We will be electing a president,
secretary, treasurer and Activities Chairman.
Legacy Park Soccer Begins
September 22!
LEGACY PARK SHARKS
The Legacy Park Swim Team ended a great swimming season. Hilary Armstrong did a great job
as head coach assisted by Sarah Costello, Kelly Riedesel, Alex Smith , Josh Smith & Stephen
Taylor as junior coaches. Our swimmers participated in five meets competing against swimmers
from other Cobb County Teams. We took 31 swimmers to the Patti Wilder County Qualifying
meet where five of our swimmers continued to the Georgia State meet in Carrollton, Georgia
placing in the top ten individually.
We are so proud of our swimmers this year as they worked tirelessly to improve their stroke
technique and swimming speed.
This year's award winners for our team are as follows:
Rookie Award: Blake Miller, Sarah Strain
Legacy Award: Julie Storch
IronMan Award: Declan Boustead
Coaches Award: Moirin Cody
Julie Storch
This year for the first time we offered a Legacy Park Swim Scholarship to Julie Storch.
She has been swimming for the Legacy Park sharks since the age of six. She graduated this year from North Cobb High
School and received a swim scholarship to Western Kentucky University.
