HR Conference 2015 was held on the theme
`Transformation of Business: Innovative
Practices in HR' on September 26, 2015 at
LBSIM. The objective of the conference was to
provide a forum where prominent professionals,
experts from the industry could provide an insight
and share their experiences on how the human
capital can be harnessed to bring about innovation
and transformation in business. The conference
also focused on bridging the gap between academia and industry through knowledge sharing in
the arena of benchmark strategic HR practices.
The session was inaugurated with the film on the life and times of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. The
chief guest for the occasion was Mr. T. K. Srirang, Senior General Manager and Head – HR,
ICICI Bank Ltd. He, along with Shri Anil Shastri, Chairman, BOG, LBSIM, Prof. Arya Kumar,
Director, LBSIM, Prof. G.L. Sharma, Advisor – CI, Dr. Rashmi Sharma, Confernce Convener,
inaugurated the conference by lighting the lamp and offering floral tributes to Shri Lal Bahadur
Shastri. Mr. T. K. Srirang, in his inaugural addresses, spoke about how HR is to be integrated
with business objectives; how skill acquisition and virtual learning would be made possible
through technology. He shared the challenges
ICICI Bank faced in its virtual training
endeavours. He called upon the students to be risk
takers and be the person who would bring about
change for betterment. In his presidential address,
Shri Anil Shastri highlighted that in today's time
only those who take risks can succeed. He stressed
upon the fact that one must compete to succeed
but only through excellence. In the welcome
address, Prof. Arya Kumar emphasized that India

has over 1.25 billion people, out of which 50% are under the age of 25, which can be
classified as Generation Y (Gen Y). Thus, the greatest challenge for HR
professionals would be to manage future talented and knowledgeable work force.
Prof. G.L. Sharma, in his vote of thanks, shared a findings from the book related to
employee retention and ability to attract employees in today's times which is
characterized by unrest and inequality. The conference Convenor, Dr. Rashmi
Sharma, in her address, talked about the biggest challenges that organisations face
i.e. a well- informed stakeholder and exponential growth of social media and how it
has compelled the organisations to draw upon innovative HR practices.
The conference had two technical sessions. The theme of session I was 'Leveraging

Book Release
'Modern Thought Leaders: Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lectures (19972014)', the book edited by Anil Shastri, was released on August 21, 2015 at
Nehru Auditorium, New Delhi by the Vice-President of India, Sh. Hamid
Ansari amidst leading literati and distinguished audience of the capital.
The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari has said that the ideal way
to remember any person is to organize Memorial Lectures in his memory and
it gave him immense pleasure to release the book- Modern Thought LeadersLal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lectures (1997-2014). He also said that Late

Shastri Ji dedicated his whole life to public service. A person of great
integrity and competence, humble, tolerant, with great inner strength and
resoluteness, Shastri Ji was a leader of the people who understood their
language. He was also a man of vision who led the country towards progress.
He opined that this book of the Collection of Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial
lectures present a unique perspective to the reader. The lectures not only
illuminate the various facets of the life, work and personality of Shastriji, but
also, in context of Shastri ji's vision, present the opinions. The Vice President
congratulated the Lal Bahdur Shastri Institute of Management for this
initiative and the McGraw Hill for publishing the collected lectures.
Speaking on the occasion, the editor of the book, Shri.Anil Shashtri stated how “the metaphor of Kisan Kayan – the concept
that is gaining currency majorly today - was first brought into political lexicon by LBS Shashtri ji. His coinage of Jai Jawan
Jai Kisan echoes all over today.”
'Modern Thought Leaders' is a collection of memorial lectures that are
organized every year (1997-2014) by Lal Bahadur Shashtri Institute of
Management (LBSIM) on the death anniversary of Late Shri Lal Bahadur
Shastri to keep his vision for better India alive. The compilation is a
collaborative effort with contributions from many eminent professionals,
scientists, economists as well as social thought leaders of India and its
neighbors including Meghnad Dsai, APJ Abdul Kalam, Dalai Lama, Shashi
Tharur, Jamshed ji Irani, Rahul Bajaj, V Kurien, Godfrey Gunatilleke,
Mushaid Hussain Syed,
Sitaram Yachuri and KC Pant
among others. The uniqueness of the book lies in the fact that it provides
views of opinion leaders who have also been instrumental in driving the India
growth story. The book further provides valuable insights into the DNA of
Indian business leadership, which is shaping the country's growth and offers
an engaging insight into the unique qualities of Shastriji and his thoughts
relevant to India today and it brings out how those qualities of Shastriji can be
exported worldwide to create excellence well beyond India. w it has
compelled the organisations to draw upon innovative HR practices.
MDP
A two-day MDP on ‘Improving Negotiation Skills’ was organized for BHEL executives during July 8-9, 2015 at BHEL's
office at Noida. The programme was designed and conducted by Dr. Praveen Gupta, Dr. Deepak Sharma and Dr. Rashmi
Sharma. The MDP focused on negotiation fundamentals, communication skills for effective negotiation, personal vs. group
bargaining and best practices in negotiations. The programme was well received by the participants.
PGDM (Evening) Induction Programme
The induction programme of the 2015-2017 batch of PGDM (Evening) was held on July 16, 2015. The welcome address was
delivered by Prof. Arya Kumar, Director-LBSIM. He motivated the batch to focus on value based education and follow rules
and regulations in life to be successful. Dr. G.L. Sharma, Advisor – CI stressed upon the fact that PGDM (Evening)
programme is the institute's flagship programme and carries equal importance. The programme also had an interactive
session wherein the faculty and students introduced themselves. The senior students shared their experiences at LBSIM.
Prof. Shelendra Tyagi is the new coordinator of the PGDM (Evening) programme.

Cultural Week PGDM-FT and MCA, 2015
The cultural week of PGDM-FT (General and Finance) was celebrated during
July 13-17, 2015 to facilitate interaction between the freshers and seniors. The
week started with the traditional day wherein all students from different states
represented and portrayed the richness
of their culture and domiciliary
heritage. Following the traditional day,
stand out day arrived which was
followed by the champu day, the facepainting day and Romeo-Juliet day. The cultural week of MCA was celebrated
during August 24-27, 2015. The students donned different avatars on ethnic day,
Bollywood day, Zombie day. The freshers had a competition on Sports Day. The
cultural week for both PGDM-FT and MCA was an amalgamation of creativity
and fun.
Fresher's Party – PGDM (FT)/MCA
The Fresher's welcome party was organized by the Management Grid on July 24, 2015 at
Welcome ITC, Dwarka which resonated with the sounds of music and excitement of the
seniors and juniors.
MCA fresher's party 2015 was organized at PULSE restaurant, Rajouri Garden on
September 11, 2015. The event encompassed music, dance and lots of fun. The titles Mr.
and Ms. Fresher were given to Aashish Chaturvedi and Akansha Bawa respectively and Mr.
and Ms. Talented were given to Sanu Bhattacharya and Sakshi Sejwal respectively. It was a
joy full evening that witnessed the participation of all MCA Faculty Members and Students.
Outreach 2015
Outreach 2015 was organized from August 3-7, 2015, so as to enable the students to interact with the top companies across
the country. Around 197 Students visited more than 1700 corporates across cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata,
Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Delhi. The companies visited were Delloitte, DE Shaw, Asian Paints, Pepsico,
Marsh & Macmillan to name a few.
EY Event
EY organised the Grand Finale, EYQ'15, the quizzing challenge, 4th edition in collaboration with LBSIM on August 28,
2015 at LBSIM campus. EYQ received record registrations of 5500 for the Online Prelims round. Top 50 teams shortlisted
from Online prelims competed in Written prelims round held at EY offices- Gurgaon, Bangalore & Pune simultaneously
over a VC. Top 8 finalist teams from institutes like IIFT, FMS-Delhi, IIMs and more battled in the Grand Finale for the
coveted title of “Winners- EYQ'15, the ultimate quizzing challenge”. The winning team won cash prize of Rs. 1 Lac along
with e-Kindle. First and second runners up teams received Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively along with exciting EY
goodies. EYQ event provided all the avid quizzers an ideal platform to showcase their mettle in an electrifying environment,
served with a dash of humour by Quizmaster Avinash Mudaliar.

Talent Night PGDM-FT and MCA, 2015
Talent Night 2015 was organized on August 29, 2015 for the
students of PGDM 2015-17 batch who displayed their unique
potential through different activities like poetry, singing,
dancing, mimicry, drama and choreographed ramp walk.
These acts were collective performances staged by clubs:
Mantra (Music club), Abhivyakti (Dramatics), Razzmataz
(Dance) and Vogue (Fashion Club).
The students of MCA enthralled everyone with their
scintillating performances through singing, dancing and
ramp walk etc. on September 16, 2015. The commencement
of the event was through an inspirational speech by Dr.Arya
Kumar, Director LBSIM. The talent of the PGDM – FT and
MCA students left the audience spellbound.
Guest Talk
H.E Mr Petko Doykov, Ambassador, Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of India
delivered a talk on September 04, 2015. He highlighted the similarity
in management education and higher education between two countries,
i.e., India and Bulgaria. He also
showed his interest in having a class
partnership in issues related to
social, cultural and education
system. A book authored by our
student, Ms Namrata Gupta, was
also released by H.E. Mr. Petko
Doykov.
Teacher's Day
As a mark of respect and gratitude for the unceasing contribution of the faculty, the
students of all the courses in the institute, coordinated the teacher's day celebration. The
event was replete with singing,
dance, dramatics and mimicry
performances by the multi-talented
students. Musical chairs game was
organized for faculty and everyone
thoroughly enjoyed the hearttouching event.

MCA Alumni Meet `Sansmaran 2015'
LBSIM organised the 6th alumni meet for MCA students –
SANSMARAN 2015 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road on September
19, 2015. Shri Anil Shastri, Chairman, Board of Governors, LBSIM; Dr.
Arya Kumar - Director; Dr. G.L. Sharma – Advisor,CI and faculty
members graced the occasion. The alumni marked their presence in the
event, right from the first batch to the last batch. Three alumni – Mr. Presh
Chopra, Mr. Karan Gujral and Ms. Anushikha Kaushal were felicitated
with awards for their continuing contributions to the Institute. The Alumni
enjoyed the games, songs and various instruments played on the evening.
Students Achievements
 We would like to congratulate Abhishek Mudgal, Arjit Dadhwal, Prateek Jain, Vinamra Bhanti (PGDM batch 201416) for winning Resolvr Case Study Competition organized by The Smart Cube. The team has been awarded prize of
INR 20,000 and have been extended Pre-placement Interviews with The Smart Cube.
 Heartiest congratulations to Sudha Sistla (PGDM batch 2015-17) for winning `Humans of the Campus' competition
at Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Pune.
Remembering Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam- A Resolution
We the faculty members, students and administrative staff of Lal Bahadur Shastri
Institute of Management, Delhi, are shocked to hear about the sudden and untimely
demise of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India. Dr. Kalam was
people's President and a great scientist and visionary who contributed in
multifarious ways for development of India and won the hearts of all across the
globe irrespective of age.
He was a great leader with a humane touch and par excellence qualities. He inspired
the young generation to think positively and do everything for the development of

Invited Reource Person/ Session Delivered:
• Prof Arya Kumar addressed on Customer Service Challenges for bankers as Chief Guest in
the Customer Meet organized by Dwarka, Sec 12, Syndicate Bank branch on July 25, 2015.
• Prof Arya Kumar shared his thoughts on book titled ‘Modern Thought Leaders’ edited by
Shri Anil Shastri in the discussion on “Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri – A Modern Leader and
Thinker” organized by Pt Babu Lal Sharma Charitable Trust on September 21, at Mother's
Pride School , Dwarka, New Delhi.
• Dr. Rashmi Sharma was invited as a resource person for the training organized for the
middle and senior level officers of Delhi Police, CRPF and Parliamentary Security by
Bureau of Parliamentary Studies & Training (Lok Sabha Secretariat) during September 2324, 2015. She delivered a training session on `Effective Interpersonal Relation” on
September 23, 2015.
Faculty Welcome:
• Dr. Rajkumari Mittal joined LBSIM as Assistant Professor in the area of Operations
Management. She has over 17 years of teaching experience. She obtained her Ph.D. in
Mathematics and Statistics from Banasthali University. Her teaching interests are Statistics
for Business, Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, Service
Operations Management, Project Management, Inventory management, and Supply chain
Management.
• Dr. Sushil Kumar Dixit joined LBSIM as Assistant Professor (Sr.) in the area of Strategic
Management. He holds doctoral and Post Graduate degree in Management and LLB from
University of Delhi. He has over 20 years of professional experience which includes 10
years with industry and 11 years with academia. His corporate experience is in the area of
Management Consultancy, Information Technology and Marketing with diverse
companies. He has written two books and published eight research papers in refereed
national and international journals and has presented papers in leading conferences /
seminars. His research interests are in the areas of Strategic Management and Marketing.
His areas of interest for teaching include Strategic Management, Corporate Social
Responsibility, Sustainability and Marketing Management.
• Dr. Samant Shant Priya has joined LBSIM as an Associate Professor in the area of
Marketing. He holds degree in the area of e-tailing from the Department of Management
Studies, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal. He has several research
papers published in national and international journals of repute. He also brings around his
eight years of corporate experience in sales and marketing functions. He has presented,
delivered and chaired sessions in many conferences including chairing a session at the
Indian Institute of Management, Ahemdabad. He was associated with University of
Pune(SPPU) in various capacities like Members Syllabus Revision Committee, Chairman
Viva- Voce of Projects, Chairman Paper Setters etc to name a few. His research interests
are in the areas of e-tailing, consumer motives, emerging aspects of marketing and CSR.
