D
omenico DiPangrazio (dee-PAN-grah-zee-o) was born in Mosciano Santa Angelo, Italy in 1886. In search
of a better life, he came to America in 1912 where he found employment with the Pennsylvania Railroad in the
Dennison Shop Yards, at that time one of the most advanced yards in the nation. In 1919, he met and fell in love
with Pasqualina Fantasia Scenna (Corf ino, Italy) and they had f ive children together. In 1953, Pasqualina
(Nunno to the children), with the help of her son "Grandpa Joe" opened Pangrazio's Pizza and Spaghetti House at
219 Grant Street in Dennison, Ohio. Using Nunno's mother's recipes from the Old Country, with input from "Pop",
Pangrazio's quickly became known as having "the best spaghetti dinner around". In 1978, after 25 years of rolling
meatballs and making dough, the 219 location was sold to Robert and Thelma Armstrong. Twenty years later,
Grandpa Joe, with the help of his family and friends, came out of restaurant retirement to once again f ire up the
ovens and proudly serve our family's now famous pizza and pasta dishes.
Here at "The Yard", we enjoy showcasing our area's history with original
photos and furnishings. It is a history steeped deeply in rail, coal, clay and sweat.
Our bar dates back to the turn of the century. It is graced with large mirrors so you
can enjoy your drink and watch your back. Its iconic "Drink Moderately" neon was
installed during WWII when women took over the duties of bartending. They
needed all the help they could get with hundreds of trains passing through daily
and "goodfella's" everywhere. We hope you enjoy your visit to Dennison Yard
Italian Tavern and we thank you for your continued support.
