La seguridad es la atención constante de cada detalle en la
operación de pulido. Para ayudar a mantener el máximo grado de
protección al pulir, nuestro Departamento de Ingeniería de
Aplicación ofrece esta guía para la utilización segura de abrasivos
recubiertos con herramientas mecánicas.
Safety is the constant care of every detail in the
polishing operation. To help maintain the highest
degree of protection when grinding, our Application
Engineering Department offers this guide for the
safe use of coated abrasives with mechanical tools.
1. LA HERRAMIENTA ADECUADA Y LA SELECCIÓN DEL
ABRASIVO
1. THE RIGHT TOOL AND CHOICE OF ABRASIVE
Una herramienta muy grande pueden ser incómoda y ocasionar lesiones
personales o daño a la pieza de trabajo. Una herramienta muy pequeña o de
escasa potencia puede ser utilizada con presión excesiva en un esfuerzo por
realizar la tarea. Forzar la máquina puede hacer que se suelte y cause daños. En la
selección adecuada interviene la elección de pulidoras eléctricas o neumáticas.
A very big tool can be uncomfortable and cause personal injury or damage to the
workpiece. A very small tool or of low power can be used with excessive force in
an effort to accomplish the task. Forcing the machine can cause it to get loose and
cause damage. The choice of electric or pneumatic polishers is a factor when
making the most proper decision.
2. GUANTES
Deben ser utilizados siempre que sea posible. No deben utilizarse implementos
que cuelguen y puedan enredarse fácilmente en el equipo.

They should be used whenever possible. Any element that hangs and may be
tangled up in the machine must be forbidden.

3.PROTECCIÓN DE LOS OJOS
3.EYE PROTECTION
Anteojos con protectores laterales deben ser utilizados, sin
excepción, en todo momento. Los anteojos sin protectores
laterales no protegen al operador de las astillas y partículas
desprendidas de la pieza de trabajo. Dichas partículas vienen de los
lados y pegan dentro de los lentes de los anteojos protectores
insertándose en los ojos.
Glasses with side shields should be used, without exception, at all times. Glasses
without side shields do not protect the operator from chips and dirt detached from
the sides and hit the inner part of the lenses of the protecting glasses throwing
them into the eyes.
4. GUARDAS
El tamaño de éstas debe ser proporcional al equipo, el cual debe
utilizarse con la guarda debidamente instalada. No retire las guardas
ni utilice abrasivos defectuosos.
The size of these should be proportional to the equipment, which should be used
with the guard properly installed. Do not removeguards and do not use defective
abrasives.
5. ABRASIVES PROPER INSTALLATION
5. ABRASIVOS COLOCADOS ADECUADAMENTE
The abrasive should be attached to the machine only as recommended by the
manufacturer. Do not modify the brackets, handles, or fasteners.
Los abrasivos deben ser fijados a la máquina únicamente como recomienda el
fabricante. No modifique los soportes, las agarraderas ni los sujetadores.
6. INSTALLATION
6. INSTALACIONES
Debe tenerse cuidado en la instalación de las bandas, éstas deben funcionar en la
dirección indicada por la flecha impresa en el respaldo. La alineación de las
bandas debe ser revisada y ajustada, si es necesario, antes de aplicar la pieza de
trabajo. Las piezas de trabajo deben ser firmemente aseguradas en lo posible.
7. FUENTE DE ENERGÍA
Las herramientas deben ser de fabricantes reconocidos y tener un aislador doble
o alambre de tres hilos con una buena conexión a tierra. El enchufe debe ser
revisado regularmente para asegurarse que la tercera pata (masa) no haya sido
removida. La máquina no debe ser utilizada con un enchufe de dos patas. Los
cables eléctricos y las mangueras de aire deben ser inspeccionadas
regularmente en busca de áreas gastadas y posibles grietas.

4. GUARDS
Care must be taken in the installation of the bands, they must operate in the
direction indicated by the arrow printed on the back. The alignment of the bands
should be reviewed and adjusted, if necessary, before applying the workpiece.
The workpiece should be securely fastened if possible.
7. POWER SOURCE
Tools must be from recognized manufacturers and must have a double insulator
or a three-wire cable with proper grounding. The plug should be checked regularly
to make sure the third prong (ground) has not been removed. The machine
should not be used with a two prong plug. Electrical cords and air hoses should be
inspected regularly for any cracks and worn areas.

Las chispas creadas al esmerilar deben dirigirse directamente hacia abajo, lejos
de la cara y el cuerpo. No esmerile cerca de material inflamable. Utilice siempre
elementos protectores contra chispas, de material no inflamable, por ejemplo
cuero.
The sparks created when grinding should be directed downward, away from the
face and body. Do not grind near flammable material. Always wear sparkprotective elements of non-flammable material, as leather.

La velocidad de operación de la máquina, no debe exceder el máximo
recomendado por el fabricante para soportes, ejes y abrasivos, cualquiera que
sea el mínimo.
The operation speed of the machines must not exceed the maximum
recommended by the manufacturer for stands, shafts, and abrasives, regardless
from the minimum.
10. PELIGRO CON LOS LÍQUIDOS
Las máquinas eléctricas no están diseñadas para ser usadas dentro o cerca del
agua; esto incluye que el operador esté parado en un piso húmedo, o cerca de
recipientes con agua u otros líquidos conductores.
11. PELIGRO DEBIDO A POLVO Y GASES
Todos los productos recubiertos deben ser utilizados en áreas bien ventiladas,
preferiblemente con ductos de extracción. El polvo generado al lijar algunos
materiales puede ser perjudicial para la salud. Las máscaras para polvo se
recomienda como medio práctico para minimizar la inhalación del mismo. Los
gases y polvo provenientes de otras fuentes, pueden causar incendios o
explosiones al contacto con chispas generadas al esmerilar. Las bolsas
recolectoras de polvo deben ser desocupadas frecuentemente para mantener su
eficiencia y prevenir que se forme material combustible.
12. DESCONECTADO
La máquina, ya sea neumática o eléctrica, debe ser desconectada de la fuente
generadora de energía antes de cambiar o examinar el abrasivo. La mayoría de
las máquinas puede encenderse accidentalmente cuando éstas se giran y
tropieza el interruptor contra alguna pieza o al examinar el abrasivo, causando
lesiones. Se recomienda que las herramientas tengan un interruptor automático
que las apague, apenas el operario deje de hacer presión con la mano.
10. LIQUID DANGER
Electric machines are not designed for use in or near water, this includes the
operator standing on a wet floor or near containers with water or other conductive
liquids.
11. DANGER DUE TO DUST AND GAS
All coated products should be used in well-ventilated areas, preferably with
extraction ducts. The dust created by sanding some materials is harmful. Dust
mask is recommended as a practical means to minimize the inhalation of it. The
gases and dust from other sources, can cause fires or explosions upon contact
with sparks when grinding. The dust collection bags should be vacated frequently
to maintain efficiency and prevent the formation of combustible material.
12. UNPLUGGING
The machine, either pneumatic or electric, must be disconnected from the source
of power before changing or considering the abrasive. Most machines can be
turned on accidentally when flipped or when examining the abrasive, causing
injury. It is recommended for the tools to have an automatic switch that turns off the
machine as soon as when the operator stops applying pressure with the hand.
