Caribbean Cruiser
Megatech’s great looking electric deep vee
gets 25 miles per hour right out of the box.
T
he Caribbean Cruiser is a full 30 inches long. It’s a
completely factory assembled model that includes a
fully installed Megatech two-channel pistol grip
radio system and two 550-class water-cooled motors.
There’s very little to do before running this boat. Drivers
only have to install the radio system dry batteries and drop
two fully charged 7.2 Volt motor packs into the hull.
A simple water cooling system and a separate RC compartment are beneath the Caribbean Cruiser’s removable lid.
The “Cruiser” features a rugged, factory-joined ABS
hull and deck. The radio and motor compartment cover
simply pops off and snaps back in position over two selflocking plastic pins, so no metal clips or other retainers are
required. A few more pleasant surprises are in store for
purchasers under the hatch, including a pair of cooling
tubes around the boat’s electric motors. Water is picked up
from a tube installed on the rudder stand, then forced
through the hull,
around the motors
and out the side
of the hull as the
boat travels
through the water.

batteries slip neatly into a compartment in the motor bay. The radio system
is accessed under a second cover, this one water-sealed
with strips of vinyl tape. Four pen cells must be installed in
the battery box for the on-board RC system and eight more
are required for the transmitter. Megatech offers their
Caribbean Cruiser Completer Pack (#MTC3810), a startup
combo that includes two 2400 mAh batteries, 12 AA batteries and Megatech’s AC/DC Juice Box 2 Dual Charger.
HOBBY MERCHANDISER/MAY 2002
The Caribbean Cruiser gets anywhere from 10 to 20
minutes running time, depending upon the number of
motor batteries installed and their capacity. I got approximately 17 minutes on a pair of Megatech 2400’s, and that
was very impressive, especially when you consider that
most of the run
was flat out — I
really like watching the rooster
tail and I estimated my top
speed at approximately 22 to 25
miles per hour.

responsive with
no tendency toward turning the boat over on its back, and
the model also features fully adjustable trim tabs to set the
planing angle of the hull exactly where the driver wants it.
The Caribbean Cruiser is really a lot of fun to drive, and
muscle like this in a 30-inch model is normally only
expected from a nitro boat — another pleasant surprise.
Modelers will enjoy running the Caribbean Cruiser.
It’s a great low maintenance electric boat with visibly
rewarding performance on the water. Six different frequencies are available so that modelers can run or race their
boats together. High speed propellers and 15-turn motor
upgrades are also available from Megatech.
Priced right for quick turnover, the Caribbean Cruiser
is a lot of fun to drive and a solid performer with a good
looking profile. Add the Megatech Completer Combo when
you close the sale and the customer will have nothing to
look forward to but a great day out on the water.
