National Immunization Awareness Month
August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). The goal of NIAM is to increase awareness about
immunizations across the lifespan, from infants to the elderly. August is an ideal time to make sure everyone is
up-to-date on vaccines before heading back to school and to plan ahead to receive flu vaccine. Getting vaccinated is
an easy way to stay healthy all year round. During the month of August, take the time to make sure that you and
your loved ones have received all of the vaccinations you need. By making sure your vaccinations are up to date,
you can help prevent harmful diseases from affecting you and your family.
People of all ages need vaccines
Getting vaccinated is important for all ages. Here is some information about vaccines that people need throughout
their lives:
† Parents can protect infants and children from 14 serious childhood diseases by age 2.
† Preteens and teens need vaccines too! Getting adolescents vaccinated will also protect their friends and their
family members.
† Adults: not sure if your immunization schedule is up-to-date? Please check with your primary physician.
† Seniors may need one or more vaccines, even if they received vaccines as a child or as a younger adult.
August: A great time to get vaccinated
Vaccines protect all year round, but August is a great time to get vaccinated.
In August, as summer winds down, it’s a good time for you and your family to make plans to get the flu vaccine.
The vaccine usually becomes available in mid-August. Getting the vaccine early can help prevent you and your
family members from getting the flu throughout all of flu season. You can learn more about the flu and flu vaccine
at Flu.gov.
When taking yourself and your family for your flu shots, you can also ask your health care provider about other
routinely recommended vaccines you might need. For example, you should make sure that the whole family is
up-to-date on their DTap/Tdap and MMRV boosters, each of which protects against several serious diseases.
† DTap or Tdap: tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough)
† MMR or MMRV: measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) Finally HPV vaccines help prevent girls
and boys from getting cancers later in life that are caused by HPV. If you have questions about the HPV vaccine
ask your health care provider for more information.

6 Interesting Things You Didn’t Know About ‘Black Wall Street’
The Greenwood neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, housed one of the most successful Black economies in American history.
The area is, now, commonly referred to as “The Black Wall Street.” Most of the businesses and homes were burned down in
the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921.
Money Stayed Inside the Community
The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times in this tight-knit community, according to sfbayview.com. A single dollar might have
stayed in Tulsa for almost a year before leaving the Black community. Comparatively in modern times, a dollar can circulate
in Asian communities for a month, Jewish communities for 20 days and white communities for 17, but it leaves the
modern-day Black community in six hours, according to reports from the NAACP.
People in Tulsa Were Leading in Luxury Possessions
In a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, six Black families owned their own planes. The average
income for a Black family was well over what minimum wage is today. Dr. Simon Berry, who owned the bus system in Tulsa,
recalls that in 1910 his average income was around $500 a day, according to reports from sfbayview.com.
The Body Count of the Tulsa Race Riot
When the community was burned down in the Tulsa Race Riot, over 800 people were admitted to surrounding hospitals, an
estimated 10,000 were left homeless, 35 city blocks housing 1,256 residences were destroyed, and 600 successful businesses
were lost, including 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, two movie theaters and a hospital. The Ku Klux Klan-led riot lasted for
over 16 hours.
Desegregation Killed the Resurgence of Black Wall Street
In the initial years after the riot, surviving residents began to rebuild the once-vibrant city. It thrived again until the
desegregation of the 1950s and ’60s began to entice the Black people of the time to live elsewhere, causing Black Wall Street
to never again be what it once was.
What Happened to the Bodies of Those Who Died After the Riot?
No one knows exactly how many bodies were buried after the riot burned down the city. “Many of the survivors mentioned
bodies were stacked like cord wood,” says Richard Warner of the Tulsa Historical Society. The Tulsa Race Riot Commission
conducted archeological digs to test the soil for unmarked graves around the area. The test revealed that hundreds of bodies
had been buried outside of the cemetery.
The Creation of Black Wall Street Was Intentional
In 1906, O.W. Gurley, a wealthy African-American from Arkansas, moved to Tulsa and purchased over 40 acres of land that
he made sure was only sold to other African-Americans. Gurley also used the area to give refuge to African-Americans
running from the harsh oppression of Mississippi.

I always tell my clients that GOD has NOT given us the spirit of fear; so don't
be afraid to be the best dressed guy in the room. I’ll tell you what — if you take
the time to care about your appearance, it’s going to happen. Surely that’s not a
bad thing. Yeah, it takes getting used to. You may at first feel “overdressed”,
especially when you’re the only man wearing a jacket or a suit as opposed to a
shirt or sweater. But learn to embrace it. People may treat you differently &
most times those differences will be overwhelmingly positive. More often
people assume that a man in a sharp jacket or suit is someone important, and
treat him accordingly.
That’s a great thing. It’ll open doors for you. But you do have to accept and embrace your new role as someone people look to as a leader, especially if you’ve
never thought of yourself as one before.
Be Bold. Be Great.

CONGRATULATIONS PASTOR DR. KEITH B. MCGEE, I,
For 13 AUTHENTIC years of serving God through pastoring, teaching, and leading His people to trust and serve Him whole
heartedly. It is by God’s Grace that He has predestined us (Messiah) to have a pastor truly after God’s own heart in the
person of Dr. Keith B. McGee, I. Your walk with God is an example of a living sacrificed life. The Living Sacrificed Life
that Paul’s admonishes us to live in Romans 12:1-3. Your example of Excellence is exhibited not only in ministry leader/
teacher; but in your total walk with God. I have had the blessed privilege and honor to witness God’s Glory in and on you.
Your selflessness is astonishing. Your commitment is admirable. Your discipline is distinguished. Your spirit is spectacular.
The Love you have shown me, Essence, Keith B. McGee, II, our families, the Messiah Temple Family, and God’s people
worldwide exemplifies our annual theme: Faithfully Growing in God’s Grace. I thank God that He chose you to be our
example as we observe you graciously releasing God’s word and gracefully relating to others. My LOVE, God continues to
use you as my example of His love, mercy, and grace. God’s peace and promises to you.
Your Ordained Wife Lady Tanga R. McGee
To Our illustrious Pastor,
And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15
There are many kindly words that can be said about you. But the 3 words that cover the kindly words are: “We LOVE YOU.”
These 3 words also cover the McGee family. Your call experience brought to you the inescapable awareness that God had a
claim on your life, and that you had been predestined to fill the prophetic office before you was born. You have been
anointed and appointed.
Pastor McGee you are a pastor who loves, not because God is in your heart but because you are in the heart of God. Your
thoughts, actions and messages to the congregation always come from the heart of God. You are an extraordinary servant and
even more exemplary as a worshipper. You consistently encourage us to become worshippers of God more than anything.
You are tireless in your pursuit of God’s best in our lives and will engulf yourselves in books, classes, people, technology and
social media only for the sake of coaching us through life’s lessons. You exemplify Biblical principles in your teaching and
daily life. You present the Word of God with compassion and with a touch of humor. You share your victories, hurts,
frustrations, cares and concerns with us and is not afraid of being transparent with the congregation. We thank God for our
gift. Continue to clearly teach and preach the un-adultered Word of God to lead us in knowledge and understanding.
Lady Tanga McGee, we acknowledge you for laboring side by side in ministry with your husband and to now that you are
on the same team. You support your husband through prayer, encouragement, confrontation, respect and unconditional love.
There are many demands, but you know the joys far outweigh the pressures. Continue to know who you are in Christ.
Love, Dr. Rosemary Saulsby, Dean of Christian Education & Mother Martha Walker, President of Mother’s Board
Pastor McGee,
As Lead Servant for 13 years I have by the grace of God tried to make the Shepherd’s Ministry one of the best ministries at
Messiah Temple. We as a ministry look forward to serving you for many, many more years! We love you and pray God will
continue to bless you and your family.
Love, Dorothy J. Reed & the Shepherd’s Ministry
Pastor McGee,
Congratulations on celebrating your 13th pastoral year. Thirteen it is a number of great promise and blessings, great
blessings given by God. The Number 13 Promise is a “two-fold” promise. It always involves man and it always involves
God. It always has seasons, times and circumstances in which God and man participate. So Pastor continue to work and walk
in your season, in all times and in all circumstances, look to God and he will continue to show you the way and bless you as
He leads and you follow Him. God's great promise in Mathew 28:20. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
age.
"HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" and we Love You, Gloria D. Miller, Leonard Maddox and the Voices of Messiah
Pastor,
The Christian Education Department of Messiah Temple would like to take this time to thank you for your leadership
and direction for this department. Your vision for this church is cutting edge and innovative. We thank God for the gift
he has given us in you. You are truly a man of God that has the best interest for the people of God in mind. It is an
honor and privilege for us to serve under your tutelage. So on this your special day we salute you. Congratulations, we
love you and thank God for you.

Acts 20:28 (NIV) “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be
shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.”
Pastor McGee,
When I look at this scripture it reminds me of the important job you have been commissioned to do; understandably
difficult, financially deficient, but spiritually defining. It is mind blowing to me, what God requires of those He has called
into the pastorate; yet you make it appear to be an effortless endeavor. Continue to profess your allegiance to Jesus Christ,
proclaim your alliance with Jesus Christ, and promote your allowance of Jesus Christ to be the vesture with which you
clothe yourself daily. In faith, pastor, when the naysayers begin to chirp, rest assure your labor is not in vain. When doubters
begin to murmur, continue to press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus; understanding that with God, all
things are possible. When the pews are empty, remember Gods word to Samuel in 1st Samuel 8:7 (NIV)“... it is not you
they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.” When the coffers seem exceptionally light remember Gods
question to Israel in Malachi 3:8 (NIV) “ "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In
tithes and offerings.” When backbiters and backstabbers continuously try to discredit the vision that God has manifested
within you, or try to derail the direction God has purposed you to travel, remember that you can do all things through Christ
who strengthens you.
Pastor, I thank God daily that I have been granted the privilege for these 13 years, to serve and sit under the tutelage of one
such as you. You could have chosen to follow your gut, going somewhere else to set down roots, but you chose to follow
God instead. You are the pastor of the Messiah Temple M.B. Church !!! If I could borrow a McGeeism, “you are better
because you are here, and we certainly are better because you are here.” Thank you for your guidance, patience,
understanding, support, critiques, compliments and encouragement. You are an inspiration and mentor in ministry to me,
and for that I will always be grateful. Continue to grow in grace and peace my brother; Happy Anniversary and Happy
Birthday.
God Bless, Rev. Joseph W. Nash Sr.
