Greetings!
I want to congratulate students and our parents
for a fairly smooth first semester. We really do
appreciate your support and help in all the
things we do in order to get students where they
need to be academically, behaviorally and
socially. It truly takes all of us working
together to accomplish this goal.
Hopefully this letter will serve to keep you
informed and also be reminded of happenings
here at Bolich Middle School. Please don’t
hesitate to call or drop us a line if you have
questions or concerns.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Our third conference for the year will take
place on Monday, Jan. 28. If you didn’t
receive and invitation to come in and would
like to, please call our office and we will get
you an appointment ASAP. We do appreciate
the time we can spend with you.
Due to the primary election held on March
4, we have decided to move our last
conference to Thursday, March 13 at the
regularly scheduled time of 4:00-7:30PM.
This will allow both parents and staff members
to get to the polls to vote.
School Fees
Once again all students are required to pay a
general Student Activity Fee of $15.00 payable
to the office. If you haven’t paid this fee it is
overdue. Unified Arts fees are also due for 1st
and 2nd semester and they are as listed: Family
Consumer Science, Tech Ed/Computers and 6th
and 7th Grade Art $10.00; 8th Grade Art is
$20.00 due to the nature of this course. All fees
for Unified Arts courses are collected by their
teachers. All checks should be payable to
Bolich Middle School
Congratulations!!!
Power of the Pen Contestants:
7th Grade – Ashleigh Bender, Jess Hessel,
Shelbi Lindesmith
8th Grade – George Curfman, Chris Petrof,
Luke Bruce
State Boxing Championship – 8th grader
Shawn Tulley will be competing in this event.
Great Job Guys – We are proud of YOU!
Practice OAT
We are doing our best to get ready for this all
important test the last week of April. (Parents,
please no vacations at this time if at all
possible.) We will have practice tests on Feb. 1
and once again in March in order to help
students get in the mode of “high stakes
testing.” Our math teachers are also giving
quarterly Common Assessment Tests in order
to help measure/monitor where are students
falling. Yes we are striving for good results!
Lights, Camera, Action!!!
Parents, be sure to ask your student about this
recent assembly we had where we learned
about video production and then actually
produced a video focusing in on Bolich
students. Students were able to see this video
for the first time on Jan. 28.

BOLICH MIDDLE SCHOOL
JANUARY NEWSLETTER
As we begin our new semester of classes, it is always good to look back at the positive things that
have happened at Bolich Middle School, and anticipate those that are in store for us. This past
quarter has been a true testament to all the good that is going on at Bolich.
As you should be aware, every month this year, the board of education is recognizing two
students from each school as a Top Tiger. The recognition focuses on citizenship, academics, social,
civic volunteer or any other accomplishments that may set the students apart from their peers.
Congratulations go out to our top tigers for the month of November who were Cameron Leymon
and Jillian Leiter. For the month of December, those that were honored were Matt Medeiros and
Kayla Szakal.
Recently, we honored our students of the month for the months of November and December.
The students who were honored were for the month of November were Cameron Leymon (6), Jillian
Leiter (6), Trent Hoover (7), Hannah Robinson (7), Jack Steward (8) and Jordan Walker (8). Those
honored for the month of December were Matt Medeiros (6), Hannah Shane (6), Luke Ritzinger (7),
Kayleigh McCormick (7), Ryan Parker (8) and Kayla Szakal (8).
With the end of our second quarter, and not to mention the first semester we have honored 135
students for making the Honor Roll, and 150 students for making the Merit Roll. We have also
recognized 174 students for perfect attendance. We drew two names from those students who had
perfect attendance, and those students received a 2GB Sandisk MP3 player. The winners of the MP3
players were Teresa Zita and Timothy Sweitzer. Our current attendance at this point is 94.68% as a
building. Our sixth grade has the best overall attendance of 95.58%. Coming in next is our seventh
grade with 94.62%, followed by our eighth grade with 93.95%. This is one area we could utilize your
help. We are below our 95% building goal for attendance this year, so please make an effort to send
your child to school unless they are legitimately ill. And as always if your child is going to be out,
please call Mrs. Criss in the main office to report their absence.
Finally, we are still seeing a good number of students referred to the office on a positive basis.
These students have done something that follows within the six pillars of character. During the
month of February, we are concentrating on the character trait of Fairness. March we will focus on
the character trait of Caring, and finally in April, we will put our focus on the character trait of
Citizenship. It would help us if you could reinforce these traits, and talk to you child about what it
means to be Fair, Caring or a good Citizen. Overall this year, we have seen a decrease in student
discipline, and an increase in the positive things we focus on at Bolich compared to last year.
Thank you for a wonderful school year thus far. I look forward to many more opportunities and
increasing success for us all at Bolich, not just in recognizing our students for the good that they are
doing, but also in all aspects of the school.

Assistant Principal

PTA President’s Message
It’s hard to believe the first semester of the year is behind us! I’m excited though
because that means that spring is on the way. Please attend these upcoming events – you don’t
have to be a PTA member to attend events we offer. We’d love to see you! Watch for flyers to
come home and be posted on the website.
Wednesday, January 30 – 7:00 pm – A presentation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Department
on the i-Safe Program. This is an eye-opening program about internet safety. If your student
uses the internet, you should attend this program. Topics covered include Internet safety issues
such as cyber bullying, eluding predators, inappropriate content, and dangers to personal safety.
This will be held at the Little Theatre at the Cuyahoga Falls High School.
See the flyer in this newsletter about Take Your Family To School Events the week of
February 11. We encourage families to come to the school for a potluck dinner, panel discussion
about How To Survive Middle School, breakfast with your student, a volleyball game between
students and teachers, and a night of ice skating at the Falls Rink.
The Nominating Committee for officers for the 2008-2009 year has been selected. If
you would like to hold a PTA office next year, or suggest someone for an office, please send that
information to one of the members: Autumn Tidd ([email protected]) 330-920-1429; Angie
Bertka ([email protected]); Tammy Cullen ([email protected]) 330-923-5133;
Kathy Julian ([email protected]); Tracy Schmitt ([email protected]).
Information can also be sent to the school in an envelope marked PTA Nominating Committee.
Thanks to all who participated in the fundraiser where we raised about $4500; helped with
the Good Neighbor’s collection of over 200 items; and to the students who submitted entries for
the Reflections program (and teachers who encouraged the students). Those entries were sent
forward for judging at the Council level. Watch for details about a display of all entries that did
not go forward to the State level at the Cuyahoga Falls Public Library.
Remember, it’s not too late to join PTA. Memberships are only $4.00 each. See the
membership form.
Please contact me with any comments or suggestions – 330-922-3370, [email protected].
