Portiuncula Indulgence
The Portiuncula Indulgence can be gained
in St. Anthony’s Chapel, by the faithful, from Saturday, August 1st till Sunday, August 2nd.
Conditions to receive the indulgence are: Confession, Communion, one visit each day to the
Chapel and recitation of the Our Father, the
Creed and some other prayer or ejaculation, for
the intention of Our Holy Father.

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
"His heart was moved with pity for them, for they
were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things." Jesus felt pity ...
and so he taught? Yes. Jesus gave his teachings
out of love and concern. He gave them because
he knew that they were what his followers
needed. He did not teach in order to control, manipulate, brainwash, or coerce us. He did not
teach in order to show his wisdom or prove his
superiority. Jesus gave us his teachings as a way
of guiding us, protecting us, and walking alongside us--like a good shepherd.
It's important for us to welcome the teachings of
Christ and his body, the church, in this spirit. Too
often, people misconstrue church teaching as
something restrictive or controlling instead of understanding that Jesus handed down these
teachings to us in order to help us find happiness
and fulfillment. When we live according to church
teaching, we are doing more than just being
"good." We are also staying close to the shepherd of whom today's psalm speaks: "In verdant
pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul." These
benefits are ours when we follow the voice of the
One who loves us.
Sometimes, we may not like what the voice is
saying. Sometimes we may be drawn towards a
different path or think that the grass is greener
elsewhere. But by humbly acknowledging that the
Good Shepherd--and his church--have great wisdom and a unique perspective to share, we will
be led in the right direction. Though it may feel
like a sacrifice at first, ultimately this loyalty to the
flock will enable us to enjoy the contentment of
those who declare, "The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want."
Our Lady of Fatima Traveling Statue
The Traveling Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will
arrive in St. Anthony’s Chapel on Saturday, August 1st and will remain in the Chapel until
August 14th. All are invited and encouraged to
come and view the statue and pray to Our Lady.
This is the opportune time to place all your worries and concerns before Her and ask for Her
graces and blessings. The Chapel will be open
every day except Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm,
while the statue is in our care.

Evening Of Recollection
This coming Wednesday, July 22 at 7:00 pm,
Catholics from across our diocese will again join
hands in prayer for On Mission for The Church
Alive! All are invited to pray in an Evening of
Recollection to be held at 12 parishes throughout
the diocese. The closest location to us is at Sacred Heart Parish in Emsworth. The complete listing can be found on the website

Golden Wedding Celebration
The Diocese of Pittsburgh is once again planning
its annual Golden Wedding Celebration for couples who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015. This year’s event will begin with
Mass at St. Paul Cathedral on Sunday, October
11, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. Bishop Zubik will be the
main celebrant. A reception will follow in the
lower hall at the Cathedral. Cathedral and hall are
both accessible.
If you are one of the couples celebrating your
50th anniversary any time in 2015 and would like
to receive an invitation to this event, please call
the rectory or drop a note in the collection basket
no later than August 9, 2015.
Catholic Community Food Bank
The Catholic Community Food Bank continues to
serve the needs of those in our community. The
3rd Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am to
noon, will be the designated day for distributions.
Mass Requests for Concelebration
Each weekday morning, two Priests offer Mass at
St. Anthony’s Chapel. One offers the scheduled
intention, and one takes an intention from the
‘extra’ Mass intention list. Once the concelebrated Mass is offered, the list is put into the bulletin on the first weekend of each month. Our
Mass Intention list for concelebration is becoming
depleted. Our prayers for the dead help our loved
ones work through their experience of Purgatory.
The Mass is the best prayer for this. Masses may
also be offered for the Living for special intentions
or as a Spiritual Bouquet for their benefit as God
sees best. To request a Mass, simply email

-231-2994, ext. 0 with your intention and the
month desired. The usual offering is $10.00 and
checks made payable to Most Holy Name Parish.
Summer Lunch Program for All Children
All children up to age 18 are invited to St. Aloysius Social Hall for a FREE LUNCH from now
until school starts. The lunches are for children only and are served from 11:30 am to
12:30 pm Monday—Friday in the Social Hall.
The Parish is located in Reserve Township at
3616 Mt. Troy Road, Pittsburgh 15212.
St. Anthony’s Lyceum Steeler
Season Ticket Raffle
St. Anthony’s Lyceum is holding their Annual
Fundraiser of a pair of Steeler Season Tickets
(Pre Season & Playoffs not included). The
tickets are $10 each. The winning number
will be decided by the PA Daily 3 Digit Evening Lottery Drawing at 7:00 pm on Sunday,
September 13, 2015 (first draw only). If the
winning number was not sold, the winner will
be decided by a random drawing. The tickets
can be purchased in the Lyceum or at MHN
Rectory for $10 each.
Grand Prize is 2 Regular Season Tickets
Tuesday, July 21st is the next
distribution date.

parishioners who meet every other Thursday at
9:00 am to clean Most Holy Name of Jesus
Church. The group has declined in the last few
years and they could use some new helpers.

Ron Hopkinson will be spinning those great oldies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. BYOB. Draft
beer, wine, pop, mixers and bottled water will be
available. Fresh baked ham sandwiches, hot
dogs, hot pretzels, nachos, chips and pretzels will

this September 30th. The Yellow Capital Campaign envelope is enclosed in the bimonthly envelope packets through the month of September.
Parishioners have 3 months left to make contributions that are not assessed by the Diocese.

Appreciation Luncheon Tickets
Tickets for St. Aloysius Volunteer Appreciation
Luncheon will be available before the 4:00 Mass
and the 11:00 Mass each weekend in August.
The luncheon is at Remo’s, 2151 Babcock
Blvd. on September 13 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets for
volunteers are paid for by St. Aloysius Church. If
you wish to bring a guest who is not a volunteer,
adult tickets are $21, children ages 5 thru 9 are
$10.50, and children 4 and under are free. Parking is available at Remo’s and next door at
McArdles. Deadline for getting your tickets is
Sunday, August 30th.

Meadows Casino Trip
The next trip to the Meadow’s Casino is on Tuesday, August 18th. The cost is $20 and you will
get back $20 in free play and $5 in food. The bus
will leave St. Aloysius at 9:30 am and then pick
up at WesBanko (formerly ESB Bank) in Troy Hill.
The bus leaves the casino at 3:30 pm to return.
