Today’s Gospel Reflection
1st Reading: 2 Sm 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16 * Ps 89:2-5, 27, 29 *
2nd Reading: Rom 16:25-27 * Gospel: Lk 1:26-38
ECHOING MARY’S
DECISION
The angel Gabriel today confronts
Mary with a mystery. The mystery of
salvation in Christ is not a mystery that
is solved, but a reality beyond our
comprehension that we must choose
to enter into. In the liturgy of the
Eastern Church, everyone waits to see
if Mary will enter into the mystery: God waits, Adam and Eve and
all the souls of the dead who long for paradise wait, angels wait
for new heavenly companions. And there is much rejoicing when
her decision is “yes.”
We have less dramatic choices offered to us, but the mystery
of our salvation in Christ is by no means “solved.” We may
understand it a bit better due to Mary’s “yes.” We may be a bit
closer to it through the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. But it still remains a mystery to which we all must give our
own “yes.” Soon we will be singing “O come, let us adore him.”
May our Advent prayer, our echo of Mary’s “yes,” continue then,
so we may enter into the mystery of our salvation in Jesus Christ,
God among us.

Dear Parishioners and friends,
Thank you to those who responded to my appeal for support to the Annual
Catholic Appeal (ACA) 2014. As of December 5, 2014, we received pledges
with a total amount of $66,446 of which $62,540 has already been paid. However, we are still short of our goal of $70,000. Please, see Page 6 for details.
PASTOR’S MESSAGE
The ACA 2014 will end on December 31, 2014. That is only ten days
away. If you have not yet participated to the ACA 2014, you still have time to contribute so that
your donation will be included towards your tax credit for your 2014 Income Tax Returns.
Your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal will help support the Diocese of San Diego in
its various programs, especially for priestly and religious vocations, parishes and schools in need,
catholic charities, and marriage and family. Furthermore, you will also be helping in the various
projects of our parish.
Please step out in faith and ask God to bless you and prayerfully consider your response to the
Annual Catholic Appeal 2014. There are envelopes in the pews and in the vestibule.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
DECEMBER 21, 2014
Blessings from St. Michael Academy to the St. Michael Parish Community!
The fourth Sunday of Advent; the waiting is almost over. Can you imagine the anticipation and anxious moments Mary and Joseph experienced as they made their way to
Bethlehem? We can share in this anticipation during these final days before Christmas.
Light the fourth Advent candle with your family. Prepare ye the way of the Lord...
Enrollment/registration is an ongoing process at St. Michael Academy. We are a Kindergarten
through 8th Grade school. You are invited to call the office and schedule a tour of the Academy. If you think
it is too expensive to send your child to a Catholic school, consider the high cost of regret in not sending your child to a Catholic
school. Give us an opportunity to show you how the cost of your child’s Catholic education can fit in your budget. Call 619-4704880, or e-mail Mrs. Lewis @ [email protected] Fr. Manny offers a $1000 discount to new families enrolling in
the Academy.

GOD’S WORD TODAY
Today’s readings ask us to make a home for God within our
hearts. Listen carefully to the Gospel. Initially, Mary’s reaction to
Gabriel’s astounding revelation is one of fear—“She was greatly
troubled at what was said.” As believers, we are called to the
same kind of faith exhibited by Mary and, like her, our initial
response might be one of fear. A central reason that Mary is held
in such high esteem in our tradition is her response to Gabriel’s
message—“May it be done to me according to your word.” She is
the model for all believers. She made a home within her heart for
the Son of God. We are asked to do the same. As we stand at
the threshold of Christmas, may we allow God’s word to open
our hearts, making a receptive home there for Christ the Lord.

ONLINE GIVING.
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle. Be our
protection against the wickedness and
snares of the devil. May God rebuke
him, we humbly pray; and do Thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the
Divine Power of God - cast into hell,
Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam
throughout the world seeking the ruin
of souls. Amen.
