Advantages of DHDs in various applications
A. Soft Start - extremely smooth start and stop. Load sharing on
start up - excellent.
B. Fluid couplings and associate problems disappear trimming/balancing of coupling not required, balancing of E.M.
not required.
C. Excessive stretch of belt avoided due to soft start acceleration.
Particularly valid on twin drive machines.
D. No alignment problems - simple installation, lining up of three
components, fluid coupling, gearbox and motors avoided.
E. Replacing of drive is simple, i.e. friction coupling on shaft and
torque arm - fluid coupling, top up of fluid of change a
substantial down time is experienced.
Advantages of DHDs in various applications
F. Power unit can go anywhere - allows flexibility in positioning.
G. Variable speed - in maintenance mode allows inching of the belt
forward and reverse directions for inspection - superb for belt
positioning when slicing belt, etc.
H. Simple system - hydraulic components with "off the shelf"
availability. Spares as simple compared to conventional drives.
I. Drive is silent compared to conventional system.
J. Stop/start logic and control is simple compared to conventional
drive. i.e. easily alter ramp times compared to fluid controls.
