Main, Bill Winterstein, Stan and Cookie Klein, Larry
and Ruth Smith and Lani and I all drove our Corvettes
in a caravan. We met up with Bill and Ann Lannon
at their home and preceded on to the Amanas. The
weather was great, Sunny and 80’s, really great for
October. Jon and Donna Divishek and Don and Amy
Heckenberg joined us at the Ox Yoke Inn. We enjoyed
a nice lunch, took pictures of the cars and headed
home. Lani and I enjoyed the drive (we left the hard-

From the Editor
I would like to thank Todd Gifford for the excellent job
as newsletter editor. I am excited to take on this position and realize the large shoes I have to fill.
A little background on myself; I grew up in the old
car hobby with my dad buying his first old car when
I was 7 years old. Over the years I have worked on
and owned a ‘32 Chevy, ‘57 Chevy, ‘68 Camaro, two
‘69 Camaros and two ‘56 T-Birds. The current stable
includes a ‘66 Corvette convertible and a 56 T-Bird
which is being restored.
Corvettes are a great reason for people to come
together and make friendships that last a lifetime.
Corvettes also spark conversations that bring people
together from all walks of life. Just recently Karanel
and I were vacationing at Mammouth Cave in Kentucky and were renting kayaks at an outfitter. Behind
the desk we noticed a Corvette poster and commented about it. Before we knew it we were being led
to an out-building and there sat a worn and well used
‘60 Corvette! The owner was enjoying it to its fullest.
The original engine had been removed several years
ago and placed in the corner. A 350 was now powering the Corvette and it was riding on rally wheels. It
was a nice, unexpected sight to see on the backroads
of Kentucky.
That same trip we also enjoyed a visit to the National
Corvette Museum. It was great to see Larry Dixon’s
‘66 convertible adding to the many top-notch cars
displayed.
I look forward to producing the Heartland Chapter
newsletter. Any and all contributions are welcome.
Technical/How To’s are especially needed. Please

October Meeting
The Heartland Chapter visited Karl’s Kustom Corvettes in Des
Moines on Saturday, October 16th. Dave Carnock, the shop
manager/team leader, gave a very thorough tour of Karl’s
restoration/fabrication shop. He’s worked with Carl Moyer for
over 20 years....starting way back when Carl was traveling all
over the map campaigning a drag car. They do everything from
authentic restorations to wild street rods to transforming the C6
into a midyear. There’s also a room dedicated to Carl’s race
trucks. He still competes weekly, mostly at Midwest dirt tracks.
They presently have over 30 Midyear conversions on the street
and orders for more. When asked which is more popular, the
‘63 Coupe or ‘67 roadster, the answer was nearly equal with
three clients owning one of each!
Visit their website at: www.karlkustomcorvettes.com
This nearly completed ‘63 will be on
display at the SEMA show in Las Vegas
starting Nov. 2nd. It’s being built for Rick
Hendricks of Hendricks Motor Sports.
Karl’s shop is expecting to get noticed by
this display at SEMA.

NCRS Offers New Historical Document Services
Shipping Data Report Service The information consists of the dealer code, dealer
name, dealer address and the date the car was produced. The good news is this should allow you to find
the original dealer where your Corvette was sold and
possibly open the door to finding more information
about your Corvette. A letter containing the information you request will be mailed to your NCRS address
on record. The cost for this service will be $40.00 USD
Document Validation Service NCRS will compare any of your GM documents to the
GM records contained in the Shipping Report and if
verification can be achieved, will establish the authenticity of your factory documents. Unfortunately, the
shipping report does not contain the vehicle options.
A letter containing the information you request will be
mailed to your NCRS address on record. The cost for
this service will be $40.00 USD
