As Daylight Saving time ends, November is the month of THANKS! We are quick to think of the celebration of harvest on the
fourth Thursday but as Elks, we honor veterans on November 11th. Your lodge recognizes the pledge; So long as there are Veterans,
the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them”. As members, please honor the men and women who have
served, past and present, in the military by thanking them for their sacrifice.
Fairfield #1192 will focus our charitable objectives on the Veterans during the month with our annual clothing and coffee drive.
Last year, your lodge donated over $4000 dollars in clothing and coffee to veterans and their families. The lodge will also be
collecting deer hides for veterans. Please continue to support the veterans with your donations.
Dedicated to our youth and the community, your lodge’s Drug Awareness Committee was busy in October. Congratulations to
Lt. Julie Harvey, Fairfield Police Department, as recipient of the Enrique “Kiki” Camarena award. The award honors the memory
of Special Agent Camarena for his efforts for a drug free life for all Americans. Lt. Harvey has demonstrated this effort for over
22 years as a law enforcement investigator in our community. The award is deserving as Lt. Harvey has dedicated her career at
fighting illicit drug use and promoting a healthy lifestyle for our youth.
During Red Ribbon Week, the committee was present at Fairfield football game, handing out over 350 balloons and ribbons to
our youth to promote a drug free lifestyle. Red awareness stickers were worn on the helmets of Fairfield, Pekin, Van Buren and
Cardinal Football players. Assemblies were held at local elementary schools with over 1150 youth releasing balloons as a promise
to be drug free. Pep rallies were held at Fairfield and Pekin High Schools with national speaker, Ray Lozano, promoting drug
awareness. A free middle school dance with pizza and prizes was offered to our youth.
Each of your memberships has supported the accomplishment of these objectives and many more each year. Fairfield #1192 is
committed to the principles of charity, justice, brotherly love and fidelity. Elks Pride – Community Focus!

As of this mailing we have approx. 40 members who have not submitted their dues payment yet.
Please send these in as soon as possible as the lifeblood of our lodge is the dues and helps us continue to maintain the
various projects that we conduct throughout our area on behalf of the Veterans and the youth of our area. Also the lodge
has already paid in April the Grand Lodge and State association dues on your behalf so technically the lodge is out those
dues until we receive your dues to cover those already prepaid expenses. So please send your dues into PO box 365

ANNUAL VETERANS COFFEE & CLOTHING DRIVE: It’s that time again where we collect used clothing and cans of coffee
or cash to purchase coffee for the Veterans. Because the government doesn’t provide coffee at the VA or the Iowa Veterans
home, Elks statewide collect and donate coffee to these locations on behalf of those who have served our country. We also
collect used clothing for all ages and sexes and veterans families so if you have clothing you can donate please drop it off
at these drop box locations: Elks Lodge, Fairfield Nutrition, Agriplastics, Loglis, Davis & Palmer Real Estate, Dr Crossland
‘s office, Dexter, Jefferson County Realty & SVC (Schaus Vorhies main office) You will also see cans for cash to buy coffee
around town at various cash registers at both Caseys, Quality Quick shop. Family Dollar, Logli’s and True Value
Hardware. Feel free to donate a can of coffee or clothing or your spare change to help us continue our support for the
veterans who have given so unselfishly in defense of our country.
DICTIONARY PROJECT: The Dictionary committee of the Fairfield Elks lodge has handed out this year’s dictionaries to all
of the 3rd graders in the Fairfield, Pekin and Van Buren schools for this year. These dictionaries are a great resource that
the students can use as a reference resource throughout their academic lives. Many thanks to all of you who have donated
to this cause by dropping your change into the dictionary jar at the lodge and a special thanks to these corporate
contributors who helped to pay for the dictionaries this year: MidWest One Bank, Iowa State Bank, Washington State
Bank, Pilot Grove Savings Bank & 1st National Bank. THANKS you to all who help make this project possible!
