USIL, HOME TO THE WORLD TRADE
CENTERS ASSOCIATION IN PERU
As a sign of our entrepreneurial and internationalization
philosophy, Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola is the site
of the World Trade Centers Association’s headquarters
in Peru. This international association brings together
companies and entities involved in international trade.
Our mission is to connect Peru with the entire world in
order to stimulate its economic development and turn
it into a hub that brings together services for domestic
and international companies. In addition, our young
people in the different USIL academic programs can
work and participate actively at events organized by the
World Trade Centers around the world.

Since 1993, the San Ignacio de Loyola Educational Organization has been undergoing
an internationalization process, with the opening of a school and institute in Paraguay,
as well as San Ignacio College in the United States, which was founded for the purpose
of offering professional programs to young entrepreneurs in that country, in addition
to providing our USIL students with the opportunity to obtain dual degrees.
The San Ignacio de Loyola Educational Organization has
over 40 years of experience in the field of education,
specializing in all levels of teaching, from early childhood
education at Colegio San Ignacio de Recalde through
graduate studies at the USIL Graduate School.
In addition, it has excellent strategic alliances, both
nationally and internationally, in addition to a number
of exchange programs that enable our students to
be educated as innate entrepreneurial leaders and
the driving force behind our country’s sustainable
development.
The foregoing, in addition to the different strategic alliances that our organization
has with the most prestigious institutions abroad, enables our students to participate
in different international exchange programs, thereby strengthening USIL’s contact
with other parts of the world.

USIL PROFESSIONAL
EDUCATION MODEL
BILINGUAL EDUCATION
USIL has developed a curriculum that includes courses required
for different majors taught in English, as well as an intensive
English language program, for the purpose of producing bilingual
entrepreneurial professionals who are able to read and write, conduct
research work, prepare cases and master the vocabulary associated
with their majors in English. USIL graduates are prepared to compete
professionally and to conduct business not only in Peru, but in other
parts of the world as well.
1
6
COMPETENCE-BASED EDUCATION
The USIL Competence-Based Education Model entails five fundamental principles
in order to guarantee educational quality: learning geared toward acquiring
competences centered on the students as the nucleus of an integrated curricular
design that comprises new teaching methodologies, new forms of assessment and
a new role for educators that places priority on excellence and the development of
a culture of assessment, innovation and continuous improvement.
This model focuses on bilingual entrepreneurial education with a business orientation
that provides a solid foundation of social responsibility, as well as ethical and moral
principles, for the purpose of generating and executing creative, productive, technical
and social proposals that contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
EDUCATION IN BUSINESS
MANAGEMENT
Over the ten academic semesters, our study methods and programs
employ the latest professional education techniques with a business
approach, in order to direct our majors toward the creation and
management of companies. For this reason, our curricular structure
includes management courses with key tools for generating added
value in and outside a company.

FACULTY
In order to develop our students’ full potential, we
have a faculty with extensive business experience
and graduate degrees from top universities in Peru
and abroad. Our faculty members are professionals
with an entrepreneurial mentality and a solid ethical
and moral foundation.
INTERACTIVE

8
Our teaching methodology combines theoretical
concepts with business and managerial experience
through finding solutions for different cases.
Knowledge acquired in class is complemented with
assignments involving practical application and
research. Another of the main characteristics of the
methodology used is student-instructor interaction,
which fosters an optimum, dynamic learning
process.

EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
A web-based information system provides
students with information on their courses,
enabling them to monitor their performance
from the comfort of their homes. This system
facilitates communication between faculty and
students through the publication of notices,
assignments, reading material, exams and syllabi.
Additionally, it provides information on courses,
class schedules, faculty schedules, attendance,
curricula, assessment dates, grades, newsletters,
regulations and other important academic
matters.
Lastly, tuition statements can be
reviewed and tuition can be paid on-line with the
security of the VISANET system.
OUR
SERVICES
STUDENT WELFARE
COMMITTED TO EDUCATION AND AWARE OF THE SOCIAL
SITUATION IN OUR SETTING, USIL MAKES A PERSONALIZED
ASSESSMENT OF APPLICATIONS FOR RECATEGORIZATION
AND SCHOLARSHIPS FROM
STUDENTS WHO NEED
THEM, PROVIDING SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THOSE WHO
HAVE A HIGH LEVEL OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, IN
ORDER TO ENABLE THEM TO COMPLETE THEIR STUDIES.
Those interested in applying for recategorization must
fill out and present a Recategorization Application by the
deadline established on the USIL Activities Calendar. The
process takes one semester, due to which results will be
available upon enrollment for the following period.
ASSESSMENT AND
DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Students wishing to apply for a scholarship must present
their final consolidated grade report to the Student
Welfare area in order to obtain authorization for the
respective process. The process includes a document
review (Scholarship Application Form and attachments)
and an interview with the student’s parents or guardians.
The results take effect starting with the second tuition
payment of the semester in progress.
This student support area has three coordinators in charge of follow-up
activities and programs that contribute to students’ adaptation to the demands
of the university context and, consequently, to their academic performance.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
PSYCHOPEDAGOGICIAL SERVICE
USIL motivates students with high academic performance
by granting Academic Excellence Scholarships each
semester to the students ranking first in each major. Those
interested in applying must present a letter of request with
a photocopy of their consolidated grade report attached at
the end of each semester. An indispensable requirement is
a weighted grade average of 15 or over and 13 as a minimum
grade for each course, in at least 6 courses (18 credits) for
the semester just completed.
From the time they begin their studies at USIL, students receive personalized
attention to help them build their personal and learning capacities. Therefore,
we help them to identify and implement strategies that facilitate their adaptation
to the university environment in order to achieve academic success.
2
0
RECATEGORIZATION AND SCHOLARSHIPS
There are different programs for working on these aspects. We also offer
workshops geared toward helping students to develop strategies that
foster their affective and academic development to enable them to respond
satisfactorily to the demands of university life. Emphasis is placed on motivation,
interpersonal relations, effective communication and conflict management, in
addition to recognition and application of rules related to assignments and
research projects.
ACADEMIC ADVISING
Academic advising is based on group and personalized programs requested
by students enrolled in different courses in order to reinforce their knowledge,
responsibility and learning autonomy, for the purpose of optimizing their
academic education.
ASSESSMENT AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
Initial assessments and assessment of attainment of the competences on which
the university focuses are planned, implemented and executed. Subsequently,
with the systemized results, plans geared toward optimizing and reinforcing
competences are formulated.
ACADEMIC QUALITY
We place emphasis on developing a culture of quality among
the deans, directors, coordinators, faculty and all support
personnel in our academic and administrative activities.
In this process, the personnel learn to use new concepts
and management and control tools with responsibility and
commitment to quality.
PERSONALIZED ATTENTION
Our policy is to provide students with all of the facilities
required for direct, immediate access to the faculty,
administrative personnel and top academic authorities for
their constant guidance in the learning process over the
course of their studies.
BUSINESS
RESOURCES
The San Ignacio de Loyola Educational Organization’s
Business Resources Department was created as a link
between the national and international business sector
and our professionals, in order to facilitate the employment
search process and to tend to the recruitment needs of
companies and institutions. Our Job Offer Management
system makes it possible to match different companies
effectively with USIL students and graduates.

MEDICAL
ATTENTION
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES,
SPORTS AND
RECREATION
STUDENT MEDICAL INSURANCE
All of our students have the option of
acquiring accident insurance that provides
coverage on and off campus 24 hours a day.
Insurance is paid starting with the second
tuition payment and is renewable each
semester.
USIL has a Physical, Sports and Recreational Activities
Department dedicated to organizing and carrying
out this type of events. We hold a number of internal
activities, such as the USIL Cup (internal futsal and
mini-soccer league) and sports, recreational and
intramural games that promote our students’ integral
development. For this purpose, we have the USIL
gym and the Huachipa Campus.
INFIRMARY
USIL offers out-patient emergency care for
its students. The USIL Infirmary has offices
on both campuses that are equipped to
provide timely, adequate service in the event
of an emergency. This service is provided to
USIL students at no additional charge.
2
2
In addition, we encourage our students to participate
on different teams, such as, chess, track, basketball,
capoeira, soccer, futsal, judo, mini-soccer, swimming,
volleyball and rugby, among others, whether in
connection with activities on the university calendar
or external competitions such as those organized by
the Metropolitan Futsal League, Co-ed Basketball
League and the La Molina Volleyball League.
USIL LIBRARY
CHAPLAINCY
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
The library provides access to a number of information
resources and services that contribute to the holistic
education of competent, entrepreneurial professionals,
facilitating the learning process and fostering research.
Users can access the catalogue online from the comfort
of their homes to see all the books the library has to offer. In
addition, on and off campus, they have access to EBSCO
and JSTOR, two academic databases containing full
articles from the most prestigious specialized journals in
the world. E-brary (for books in English) and E-Libro (for
books in Spanish) provide access to electronic books.
The university is also concerned about its students’ spiritual
needs, for the purpose of building solid foundations of faith.
For this reason, with our students’ support, the Chaplaincy
organizes activities such as Confirmation, food drives for our
brothers and sisters in need, etc.
The university complements its functions with extracurricular
activities, fostering diverse cultural expressions that contribute
to its students’ integral education, including drama, poetry,
dance, tuna (men’s musical group), etc. The Cultural Extension
area is in charge of the annual schedule for these activities.

generated substantial change in our country’s university system
by offering new admission mechanisms that allow applicants to

International Marketing, Logistics and Human

their employment opportunities. At the same
time, they develop skills in order to adapt easily

WHY WAS THE NAME
“SAN IGNACIO DE LOYOLA”
CHOSEN
San Ignacio de Loyola / Saint Ignatius of Loyola was
an enterprising man who knew how to develop his full
potential and became a great leader during one of
the most important times in history. For this reason,
our university bears his name, in order to draw upon
his tranquility, courage and spirit for the purpose of
educating men and women who, like Saint Ignatius, are
able to put this great enterprising spirit that we all have
inside into action.
SAINT IGNATIUS LOYOLA
FOUNDER OF THE SOCIETY OF JESUS AND PATRON
SAINT OF OUR UNIVERSITY
Saint Ignatius lived at a turning point in history: the
transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era.
Events as significant as the conquest of Granada, the
discovery of America, the establishment of the reign
and empire of Carlos V, Martin Luther’s break with the
Catholic Church and the Council of Trent led to a new
concept of humanity and universality.
more son in addition to his guardian’s
ten children, who were pages and
ladies in waiting at the royal palaces.
In the service of the Duke of Najera,
Viceroy of Navarre, in brave defense
of Pamplona against the French, he
was seriously wounded by a cannon
ball (1521). During his recuperation,
he obtained a book about the life of
Christ and the saints. Reading these
biographies, which told of heroic
acts, awakened a desire in Ignatius
-who had changed his name by
then- for a new type of glory, that of
service to Christ.
The new times posed a question about the meaning of
life and Ignatius shared his discovery: God communicates
with those who seek Him and shows them the way they
can best serve Him. Based on this conviction, Ignatius
dedicated his life to seeking and fulfilling the will of
God, as well as helping others to begin their search.
In 1540, following a process of
achieving spiritual maturity, together
with companions who had joined him
in this new search, he founded the
Society of Jesus, a religious order
approved by Pope Paul III. This order
was to become the main bastion of
Catholicism in a particularly difficult
era in which situations such as the Lutheran break with
the Church and the strengthening of Muslim forces
threatened not only the Church, but also all of Western
Civilization.
Iñigo (his original name) was the youngest of thirteen
children. Born in 1491 – it is believed he was born on
October 23 – in the Loyola manor house, he inherited
his family’s combative spirit and sense of honor and
loyalty. Because his mother died when he was very
young, he was sent to live under the guidance and care
of his sister-in-law, Magdalena de Araoz, who instilled
the deep faith of the Basque people in him. Some time
later, his father arranged for him to become a page to
the treasurer of the Kingdom of Castile, Juan Velázquez
de Cuéllar. Therefore, he was educated as if he were one
The energetic, generous activity of Ignatius and his
companions contributed decisively to the protection of
the faith in Europe, as well as its expansion to other parts
of the world. When Ignatius died in Rome in 1556, the
Society of Jesus was running twenty-two schools, two
universities and several rehabilitation centers known as
Saint Martha houses. He was beatified by Pope Paul V in
1609 and canonized by Pope Gregory in 1622. Ignatius
of Loyola is an example of the great things that can be
achieved with a well-directed, decisive, enterprising
spirit.
