Year of Mercy
Faith Formation
"The Christian life, as Jesus presents it, seems truly to be folly.
St. Paul himself speaks of 'the folly of the cross of Christ,
which is not part of the wisdom of the world'. To be a Christian
is to become a bit foolish, in a certain sense, and to renounce
that worldly shrewdness in order to do all
that Jesus tells us to do. And, if we make
an accounting, if we balance things out, it
seems to weigh against us. But the path of
Jesus is magnanimity, generosity, the
giving of oneself without measure. He
came into the world to save and he gave
himself, he forgave, he spoke ill of no one,
he did not judge."
— Pope Francis
2016-2017 Registration

St. Pius X Youth Ministry
Youth Group Roll Out
On Monday, September 12, from 6:30-8 pm, the youth group
is partnering with our St. Vincent de Paul Society and our
Prayer Shawl Ministry to make mats for the homeless. The
mats are made from plastic bags, like ones from grocery stores.
So from now on, please save these plastic bags and bring
them to the event. Parents, if you know how to crochet, feel
free to bring your hooks and join us at the event. In addition to
rolling out these mats, we’ll also be rolling out the youth
ministry year with kickball and cinnamon rolls. And don’t
forget to roll out of bed and show up with your worst bad hair
day. Invite friends!
Family Mass, RE/YM Introduction, and Ice Cream Social
On Monday, September 19, from 6:30-8 pm, kindergarten
through high school students and parents are invited and
encouraged to attend a Family Mass, RE/Youth Ministry
Introduction, and Ice Cream Social at Pius. After the Mass,
parents and students will receive RE/Youth Ministry packets
and calendars, hear about the RE/Youth Ministry program
this year, and get the chance to ask any questions you may
have. After the meeting, please stick around for a family ice
cream social!
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Join us for RCIA!
Each year men and women embark on an
exploration of the Catholic faith. Some are deciding
if they are called into the Catholic Church; others
have been Catholics all their lives and are now
interested in discovering what this really means.
Together we witness to the fact that our search for
God is a lifelong journey, a journey on which we make the most
progress when we walk it with others and with intention.
The RCIA Program will begin October 5!

Stewardship of Time & Talent Appeal
HAVE YOU BEEN THINKING ABOUT FR. RICHARD’S CHALLENGE TO USE
YOUR GOD-GIVEN GIFTS AND TALENTS IN SERVICE TO GOD AND OTHERS?
HAVE YOU BEEN WONDERING ABOUT HOW TO BECOME MORE INVOLVED IN OUR PARISH COMMUNITY?
Over the summer months, we were challenged to think about the gifts and talents that God has given us. We were reminded that
we are to be good stewards of these gifts and talents. We were also asked to reflect on how we are using our gifts and talents to
serve God and others.
Our annual Stewardship of Time & Talent Appeal will give parishioners the opportunity to respond to the challenge. We ask that
you spend some time in prayer over the next few weeks, reflecting on the gifts and talents God has given you, and considering
how you might use them in ministry in the St. Pius X Catholic Community in the coming year. The Parish Guide to Ministry
will give you an idea of which ministries and special events might match your special gifts and talents. The Guide to Ministry
is available on the parish website or hardcopies will be available in the Gathering Space.
Stewardship of Time & Talent Surveys will be inserted in the parish bulletin the weekend of September 24 and 25. You may
also complete the survey online by visiting our parish website at www.stpiuslombard.org. Completed surveys should be
presented during the Offertory at Mass on Commitment Weekend, October 1 and 2, or they may be returned to the
Parish Office.
FILLED OUT A SURVEY LAST YEAR? All you have to do to recommit to ministries you have
served in within the past year is simply provide current contact information, check one box on the
Stewardship of Time & Talent Survey and list those ministries in the space provided. You may still
indicate if you are interested in other ministries or if you would like to assist with one of the special
events listed on the back of the form.
If you have any questions regarding the Stewardship of Time & Talent Appeal, you may contact
Leanne Newman at [email protected] or 630-638-8509. You may also contact the
Parish Office via e-mail at [email protected] or by calling 630-627-4526.

FALL FEST ACTIVITIES — SEE PAGE 9
Adult Choir Schedule-Adult choir will rehearse on the 1st
and 3rd Thursday evenings each month from 6:30-8:00 pm
and then sing every week at the Saturday 5 pm Vigil Mass. On
the off-rehearsal weeks, we will meet at 4:00 pm in the chapel
to rehearse before Mass. Our first rehearsal will be Thursday,
Sept. 15 at 6:30 to 8:00 in the choir loft. Everyone is
welcome!! No music-reading experience is necessary! You will
be taught everything you need to know.
Teen Choir-This is a new group forming this year which
includes any high school or college-aged singers and
instrumentalists. We will rehearse on the 2nd Thursday of
each month from 6:30-8:00 and sing at the second 11:30 Mass
each month. First rehearsal will be Thursday, Oct. 13 at
6:30 in the choir loft, and we will sing on Sunday, Oct. 16th at
the 11:30 Mass. Please arrive at 11:00 am to warm up. Music
and lots of encouragement provided to all!
St. Cecilia Singers (Children's Choir)- The St. Pius X school
children will continue to rehearse on Wednesday mornings at
7:15 until 8:30 Mass for children 3rd-8th grade. Choir Space is
limited for the school choir, so auditions may be required.
Starting this year, there will also be a rehearsal offered for
the Faith Formation students on Mondays from 5:00 to
6:15 if there is interest. Singers will be able to go right from
choir practice to their FF classes. The combined children's
choir (school and Faith Formation) will sing each Sunday at
the 9:30 am Family Mass. Please arrive at 9:00 am for warm
ups. First rehearsal for School singers, Wednesday Sept. 14 at
7:15 in the loft. First rehearsal for FF singers, Monday,
Sept. 19 at 5 pm in choir loft. First 9:30 Sunday Mass for
children's choir - Sunday, Sept. 25. (Note: Informational
meetings have been cancelled. Please email me with any
questions.)
Concert Choir- This year, we are pleased to be offering a new
opportunity to the school and parish children! Since
membership in the St. Cecilia Singers is limited due to choir
loft space, Concert Choir is an after-school choir open to all
children in grades 3-8 who would like to perform a wide
variety of music and receive excellent vocal music education.
We will rehearse Tuesdays from 3:15-4:30 and possibly
Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 if we have enough interest for both
an older and younger choir. Concerts will be performed in the
church at least once per semester There will be a $60 fee to
participate. First rehearsal is Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 3:15 in the
choir loft. You may sign up at the first rehearsal and bring
payment (check made out to St. Pius X Church) or email me,
and I'll send you a registration form. (Note: Informational
meetings have been cancelled. Please email me with any
questions).
Cantors- Cantors will rehearse on the 3rd Thursday of each
month from 6:30-7:30 pm. First rehearsal will be
October 20th. The cantor ministry is for trained singers and an
audition with the music director is necessary. Please contact
me if you are interested in singing as a cantor.

verdadera, sino desgracia y muerte.
Me daba terror
