Thank you for making Model Expo 2007 such a wonderful success. This year’s event attracted a good
number of entries and more visitors than at any time throughout it’s 25 year history.
Model Expo is a joint initiative of model clubs across Australia. It provides a unique opportunity for
modellers and enthusiasts of all interests and skill levels to share their ideas, knowledge and
enjoyment of plastic and scale modelling. The Australian Open Plastic and Scale Modelling
Championships provide a wonderful spectacle for the wider community to learn more about the art
of modelling and how they can participate in this most interesting hobby.
Model Expo 2008 is fast approaching and should be the events biggest and brightest yet. Following
on from the success of this year, Model Expo 2008 will benefit greatly from increased participation
of clubs, the model industry and sponsors.
The vision and mission provides a framework, that will ensure the ongoing success of Model Expo
and the Australian Open Plastic and Scale Modelling Championships for many years to come.
The vision:
To promote the art of plastic and scale modelling
The mission: Model Expo’s mission is to create a greater awareness among the wider and modelling
community of the benefits and opportunities provided by plastic and scale modelling.
through a major national event that:
• provides a greater recognition of the opportunities (professional and recreational)
provided by plastic and scale modelling
• provides a competition for the widest variety of plastic and scale model categories
• provides recognition of the skills and talents of individual modellers and clubs by
the modelling and wider community
• Provides the opportunity for plastic and scale modelling to be recognised as part of
the wider arts community, and
• provides the opportunity for participation and enjoyment by model club members,
individuals and visitors

2 MODEL EXPO 2007 Results
odel Expo 2007 was
certainly the most
enjoyable Model
Expo for me personally during
my time as Director. This year
was our third year at the
excellent venue at Sandown
and the show went together
relatively painlessly for the
committee members. The third
Model Expo at Sandown now
has developed a well
established framework for the
organisation, set up and execution of the event.
This framework is flexible enough to take on new ideas and
initiatives from all avenues.
The single most important area that we can obtain ideas for
improving Model Expo comes from the general public.
Model Expo is what it is today due to this feedback.
However, the committee is under no illusions that we will be able to
please all people all of the time.
Some of the ideas that are put forward are good ideas but are
unfortunately out of the scope of Model Expo financially or logistically.
This is unfortunate but is a fact of life.
Model Expo 2007 saw the introduction of the custom made
computerised booking in system.
This worked very well for its first Expo outing and assists greatly
with the back office administration and time required to run a successful
event during the weekend. There were some minor glitches at the
presentation but these bugs have already been solved. Model Expo 2008
presentations will flow better due to these improvements and again from
various suggestions from modelers and the public.
This year saw one of our largest attendances by the public. Model
Expo 2007 also hosted the largest numbers of Traders than ever before.
Numbers of models in the competition were up slightly on 2006 and the
number of displays was increased in number and variety. The
workmanship that is evident in all these models must be seen to be
appreciated
The demonstrations have matured into a set up that works well for
the public and the presenters. Each demonstration was well attended by
the public and club members all looking to learn a different aspect of
their hobby.
Model Expo 2007 had something for everybody – competition,
displays, and demonstrations. There were enough traders with a variety
of kits, tools, equipment, books etc to lighten the load in many wallets
and purses. Of special interest this year were the aviation and military
prints available for purchase.
The committee is already hard at work on the planning for Model
Expo 2008. This will be the 25th Anniversary of the event and we are
attempting to make this year one to remember.
We have our work cut out for us here as we are working within
financial constraints and have seen many improvements already from
year to year.
One of the areas we would like to focus on in 2008 is to make this
the year of participation.
If you are a modeler, bring your model(s) along and enter them in the
competition, not for the sake of competition but for the joy of
participation. Modelers and the public all enjoy seeing completed
models regardless of whatever place they may or may not have
M
achieved. The enjoyment that you have in your hobby can be shared
simply by participating and having your work on display for others to
enjoy as well.
Please take this as an invitation to come along with your models and
be part of the Silver Anniversary Model Expo 2008.
Finally, I wish to thanks our Sponsors, Traders, Club members,
Competitors, Demonstrators, Visitors and the Expo committee members
for making Model Expo 2007 such an enjoyable event.
I hope to see you all at Model Expo 2008 and remember if you are a
modeler, then bring along a model or two and share your enjoyment of
our great hobby.

CHANGE OF DATE FOR MODEL EXPO 2008
Since this Director’s message was written, the Model Expo committee
has been notified that the Sandown Exhibition Centre is unavailable to us
due to the 2008 Sandown V8 Supercars race being moved to the Queen’s
Birthday long-weekend, MODEL EXPO will now be held on the weekend
of 28-29 June 2008. This event will still be located at the Sandown
Entertainment Centre, with increased viewing times and a Swap & Sell
on the Sunday. For further details and updates visit our website at:
