Welcome to Fall 2016
Hello! We certainly hope you’re enjoying this gorgeous summer in the
Susquehanna Valley. Did you notice, though? While many of us are still
enjoying our favorite summer pastimes, things are beginning to change: the
sun’s sinking lower in the sky and setting earlier, the evenings are a bit cooler, and students are heading back to school. All sure signs that fall is just
around the corner.
And with fall comes another favorite of so many: our schedule of minicourses for adults, kids, and even your pets!
We continue with a great selection of courses in computer software training,
arts and crafts for both kids and adults, fitness and self-defense classes,
health and wellness, cooking and baking, and more!
We are very pleased to offer a community Youth Mental Health First Aid
training which equips adults to respond to and assist during a crisis or emergency mental health situation in youths age 12 to 18 years. This course will
be helpful for parents, grandparents, coaches, daycare workers, or anyone
who works or plays with young people. See page 7 for more information
about the course and registration information.
Other new selections this fall include unique Floral Designs, Zen
Meditation, Gluten-Free Cooking, Cheese Making, Home Canning, An
Analysis of Economic Fallacies, information on taking a cruise, and some
great ballroom dancing classes!
We also offer career training programs, including Business, Health Care
Management, Hospitality, IT and Software Development, Skilled Trades,
and more. You can learn online at your leisure, at home, or on your lunch
break, whenever it’s most convenient for you.
You can earn your CDL license at our driver training center for a new career
on the road, or update your truck-driving skills in order to secure a better
paying job. Our noncredit programs offer it all when it comes to helping you
gain the work skills you need!
Also check out our ever-popular bus trips on the back cover, and details on
page 17.
Don’t wait to register; our courses will up quickly, so you have the best
chance at getting a seat in the class of your choice if you register early. As
always, we accept all major credit cards, checks, money orders, and cash. You
can mail or fax your registration, or drop it off at our office at the Greenly
Center, 50 East Main Street in Bloomsburg. We’re on the second floor at the
front of the building.
We look forward to serving you, and to providing a fun, relaxing learning
experience. See you soon!

Sorry Virginia, There Is No Santa Claus - An
Analysis of Economic Fallacies (S320A)
"It may be true…'that you can't fool all the people all
the time', but you can fool enough of them to rule ta large
country." Will and Ariel Durant, HistorianIn these increasingly complex economic times, citizens and voters can no
longer aford the luxury of economic illiteracy. This is especially important with upcoming presidential elections
where the rhetoric and promises regarding economic issues
will be over the top. Unfortunately, all politicians, most
professional economists and economics professors, and
almost all business owners seemingly do not understand or
have chosen to ignore the most basic economic laws, and
the consequesces tht occur when they are ignored. You can
breathe easy that this is not a course on economics per se,
but is designed to expose the economic fallacies that have
caused such hardship in today's world. Henry Hazlitt's
classic book, Economics is One Lesson, (Cost $15) will be
used as a reference. Starting with the Broken Window
Fallacy, you will learn the most important lesson to be
applied to economic policy, the idea of that which is seen
and that which is not seen. Each week will cover an economic policy and its inteded purpose then review what the
actual consequences have been, both in the immediate and
long term and not merely for one group but for all groups
of citizens. Hopefully this will generate lively discussion
from the group in the seond half of each session.
A $15 fee will be collected by the instructor to cover
the cost of the book.

of rock and roll is based in the Cha Cha rhythm.

known as "NC2" and is one of the most popular forms of
contemporary social dance. It is frequently danced to midtempo ballads in 4/4 time that have a characteristic quickquick-slow beat. A classic example is the song Lady In
Red. If you only could learn one dance this would be the
one to learn.

Taking the Path of Zen (F317A)
Twenty-five hundred years ago, the Buddha picked a

one's true nature, has a rich and inspiring history of teaching and practice, offering guidance of profound insight and
wisdom for students of today. Taking the Path of Zen is a
5-week course exploring the essential teachings of
Buddhism expressed in the Four Noble Truths and the
essential teachings of Zen through the words and practice

your Life Force Energy. Reiki is an all natural healing
method that originated in Japan and teaches you how to
restore and maintain your Life Force, giving you improved
mental alertness, general endurance, and an improved
sense of well-being.
A reiki treatment balances and restores the energy of
the body and "turns on" the body's own natural ability to
self-heal. Treatments involve laying of hands on or above
the body in specific positions, and the use of healing symbols. The reiki method is used by health professionals
world wide, to create calm and alleviate pain. Reiki may be
used alone, or combined with any other health care treatment.Level 1 begins the journey teaching you how to do a

Class location will be listed in your confirmation letter. If time does not allow for mail delivery, we’ll call you. Some classes do not
meet every week; please check carefully for “skip” dates.
Refunds / Cancellations
Bus Trips
Due to the financial commitments required for our bus trips, we cannot honor refund requests once a trip has been confirmed. If
we have people on a waiting list and can find someone to take your place, we will refund your payment minus a $10 processing
fee. If you have a friend who would like to go in your place, you may transfer your seat to them, just give us a call at 570-3894420 so that we can update our roster.
Mini Courses
If you cancel your registration at least one business day before the course begins, we will refund your payment minus a $10 processing fee. No refunds will be given after a course begins.
If you cannot attend, we encourage you to send a friend in your place; substitutions are welcome up until the class starts.
If we cancel a course for any reason, you will receive a full refund. Sometimes we have to cancel a class due to low enrollment.
Help us better serve you by registering early and inviting your friends to join you in a class.
Online Career Certificate Programs
Students are given access to the entire program’s online classroom and learning material upon enrollment in Career Certificate
Programs. For this reason once the course is accessed either by requesting materials or viewing lessons we are unable to
process refunds. If you are unable to finish your course in the designated period of time, please contact us and we will make provisions for you to complete your course.
Bloomsburg University's Office of Corporate & Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel, postpone, reschedule, limit
enrollment, split or combine classes, and to change instructors and class locations. Every reasonable effort will be made to give
instructors and students advance notice of such changes.
Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm, and Monday through Thursday evenings when classes are in session. Please contact
us by calling 570-389-4420.
100% Satisfaction Guarantee
If you finish a course and are not completely satisfied, you are guaranteed a 100% refund. We regret that the cost of materials
purchased for the course is not refundable.
