Mission Statement
To provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new
opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and
skills for life.
Who We Are
The Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin has been the leader in providing quality after
school programming in Wetaskiwin for the past 20 years. We serve over 1200 children,
youth and their families each year through after school programs, day camps, bullying
prevention initiatives, counseling and leadership development programs. The Keystone
Leadership Club and the Native Friendship Club have received provincial and National
Awards for programming excellence. We strive to identify and address community need
by seeking out new resources and partnering with local social service agencies and
donors to deliver programs to those people most in need. Our programs address barriers
to participation by providing transportation and access to subsidies.

members of society. Children and youth are at the centre of everything we do. Through
adventure, play and discovery, we encourage and empower them to develop healthy
lifestyles, a life-long passion for learning, leadership and life skills and a sense of social
responsibility.
Collaboration
We work together with families and volunteers in each community, in partnership with
government and other organizations, to create healthy community solutions to providing
children and youth with what they need for optimal development.
Speaking Out
We speak out on behalf of children, youth and their families to reduce disadvantage,
enhance their lives and enable their voices and ideas to be heard.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program
The Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin is a chapter member of the local Canadian
Tire Jumpstart program. The list below provides a description of children that can
apply for funding:
Children between 4 to 18 years of age;

Funding can be used to cover registration fees, equipment costs and/or
transportation costs;

Maximum support provided per child in any one submission period is $300,
with the opportunity to fund the same child for successive seasons;

Maximum of one activity per child per submission period;

Funding is available for all children within a low-income family;

100% of the monies paid to support a child go to the direct benefit of the
child. (No funds are to be used to pay for administration or for any other use).

Participation must be in an organized sport or recreational activity;

Sport or recreation activity must include physical activity;

Funding goes to support an individual’s participation in an activity (not to
support teams or groups or to create an inventory of equipment);

Funding should be for a sustained program that is either a minimum of five
weeks duration with a minimum of one session per week or, in the case of
sport camps, five consecutive days.
Note: Reimbursements for program, equipment or transportation costs already
paid by, or on behalf of, the family shall not be granted.

Wetaskiwin Out of School Care
Ages: 6 - 12 yrs old
Young Chefs
Provides a quality program through intentional, well organized and
developmentally appropriate programming for children in Wetaskiwin. We meet
the developmental needs of children by understanding the stages of child
development, and build assets and competencies relevant to supporting children
to become successful adults. This program provides a safe and fun environment
for children that promotes positive values and attitudes, enhances children’s self
esteem, builds resiliency and protects children against at-risk behaviours.
Children will learn basic culinary skills in the kitchen while reading recipes and
working in a team atmosphere. The program also encourages healthy eating by
helping to understand the food groups and serving sizes.
Hours of Operation
Program time: 4:00 – 5:00 pm
3:15 pm – 6:30 pm (Monday – Friday)
Fees: $20
Ages: 8 - 10 yrs old
Sessions: Jan 15, 22, 29 / Feb 5, 12, 19, 26 / Mar 5, 12
8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Day Camps)
Ages: 11 - 16 yrs old
Closed on all statutory holidays and Apr 26 for a professional development day.
Fees: $310/month
Subsidies
Government Subsidy - Government childcare subsidy information may be found
online at www.child.alberta.ca. Some families may qualify for provincial childcare
subsidies. The best way to apply is online. You will learn the amount of your
subsidy right away. Once you have your letter from the Government stating your
subsidy amount, please bring it to the Boys and Girls Club with your Registration
Form so you can secure your child’s space within the program. Families are
responsible to ensure that that their subsidy information is kept up to date and the
required documents are sent in.
Tuesdays
Sessions: Jan 17, 24, 31 / Feb 14, 21, 28 / Mar 7, 14, 21

Stars Mentoring Program
Program runs until June 2013
Provides qualified school children with the opportunity to be matched with an adult
mentor in a school environment so as to enhance the child’s self-esteem, improve
their school performance and attendance, build their social skills and increase
their self confidence.

Rogers Raising the Grade
Native Friendship Club
Rogers Raising the Grade aims to provide young people with the skills, tools, and
opportunities that will equip them to excel academically and secure their future
success as productive, independent, and contributing members of society.
This is an interactive after-school program that allows youth to explore their
interests, receive homework support, connect with mentors, interact with peers,
increase their digital literacy, and plan post-secondary education.
Rogers Raising the Grade will:

assist youth in creating a Personal Development Plan

work with youth in collaboration with their family, school, and community

use online educational resources
Ages: 6 - 17 yrs old
Program runs until May 2013
Provides opportunities for children to participate in a program that is specifically
designed to explore and experience the native culture, traditions, and spirituality.
The program is facilitated by a positive aboriginal role model and activities may
include crafts, games, cooking, guest speakers, storytelling, drumming and
dancing.
Program time: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Mondays
Fees: $20
The Rogers Technology Centre:

is FREE to access for youth ages 12-19

will offer a variety of opportunities such as interest based activities,
presentations, field trips, and more…
Torch Club

Program runs until May 2013
Leadership group that focuses on 5 core elements: service to club and community,
teamwork, healthy choices, leadership and learning for life. Youth will learn skills
and information for personal growth and contribute to their community. Personal
awareness and self-confidence will be developed in a team environment.
Activities and projects will happen in the club, community and possibly regionally/
nationally.
Program time: 4:00 – 5:00 pm Thursdays

Early Learning & Child Care Centre
Ages: 1 - 6 yrs old
Provides quality day care for children 1 year to 6 years of age. The Centre
provides a safe & positive environment where the children’s uniqueness is
acknowledged and appreciated by all. Children will be active learners, treated as
individuals, with unique strengths, interests and personalities. The Centre is a
licensed and accredited program through Alberta Child and Family Services.
Programming supports the physical, social, intellectual, emotional and creative
needs of the children.
Conflict Resolution Course
Ages: 10 - 14 yrs old
Tuesday, January 15th
6:45 am – 6:00 pm (Monday – Friday)
Designed to teach children appropriate conflict resolution skills to use within their
family, school, or social settings. This valuable program gives the students the
ability to resolve or diffuse a situation in a healthy and productive manner before it
becomes out of control, dangerous, or violent. This program provides a solid
foundation from childhood to adulthood. (Program resources provided by KidProof
Canada)

Social Netiquette Course
Ages: 10 - 15 yrs old
Tuesday, March 19th
The internet is a doorway into some of the most amazing, interesting, and often
dangerous places in the world. Kids have access to people, ideas and influences
now more than ever. This course will begin to teach them how to develop their
critical thinking and problem solving skills while they navigate through social
networking sites such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Online Gaming.

Enrichment Program
The Enrichment Program is a free personalized counseling program that supports
youth and parents in building life skills. We offer an intensive program that
includes both weekly solution-focused individual counseling and adult & youth
group sessions. For more short-term assistance we can offer up to 3 sessions of
mediation between family members. We address issues such as but not limited
to: Anger management, conflict resolution, family/friends/school concerns,
self-esteem, parenting skills and home management.

The Restorative Justice program will address victims’ harms and needs, hold
offenders accountable to put right those harms, and involve victims, offenders, and
community members in this process.
