For over a century, Christians have
observed a week of Prayer for Christian Unity,
which is celebrated for eight days prior to the
Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul (January 25).
This year, our Holy Father has asked us to reflect
upon how we might be transformed as we work
toward the full visible unity of the Christian
churches.
“The unity for which we pray is not merely a
‘comfortable’ notion of friendliness and co-operation. It
requires a willingness to eliminate competition between us.
We need to open ourselves to each other, to offer gifts to
and receive gifts from one another, so that we might truly
enter into new life in Christ.”
We might be inspired to
this vision of unity by the
witness of Martin Luther
King. With our brothers and
sisters in other Christian
churches, we can work
together to effect changes in
our community, bringing
gospel values and compassion
to those who suffer in our
midst.
Life's most persistent and urgent question is,
“What are you doing for others?”

SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
the jubilee
year of mercy
December 8, 2015 - November 20, 2016
Quote of the Week from Pope Francis
There is an aspect of mercy that goes beyond the
confines of the Church. It relates us to Judaism and
Islam, both of which consider mercy to be one of
God’s most important attributes. Israel was the first
to receive this revelation which continues in history
as the source of an inexhaustible richness meant to
be shared with all mankind. As we have seen, the
pages of the Old Testament are steeped in mercy.
Among the privileged names that Islam attributes to
the Creator are “Merciful and Kind”. This invocation
is often on the lips of faithful Muslims who feel
themselves accompanied and sustained by mercy in
their daily weakness.
Mount St. Peter Food Pantry
The Mount St. Peter Food Pantry was the
thankful recipient of a canned food collection
conducted by students, families and staff at the
Roy Hunt Elementary School in the
New Kensington - Arnold School District.
We shared the 3500 cans they collected with the
United Presbyterian Church Food Pantry in
Parnassus.
While this was a most welcome gift, on-going
donations of cereal, crackers, peanut butter, canned
tuna and chicken, pasta and sauce are needed in
order to have emergency boxes on-hand for people
who come to the Parish Office in need. You may
leave your donation in the vestibule of the Chapel of
the Seven
Sacraments.
Many
thanks to all
whose efforts
help to feed
the hungry
during this
Jubilee
Year of Mercy.

PARISH NOTES
Baptism
This weekend, we welcome
Dominic Paul Enciso
and
Cecilia Jean Terry
into the Church through the saving
waters of Baptism. We rejoice with
their parents and with all who
celebrate their newborn life in the
family of God.
Holiday - Parish Office Closed
The Parish Office will be closed Monday,
January 18 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
Parking at Mass
We have received a notice from Walker Funeral
Home that parking for Mass or parish events is no
longer permitted in their lots. We appreciate your
kindness in respecting the wishes of Walker Funeral
Home.
Donut Social Next Weekend
Coffee and donuts will be served in Marble Hall
after all Masses next weekend. These monthly donut
socials are sponsored by parish ministries /
organizations / committees, who will take turns
providing the donuts and coffee on the fourth
weekend of each month.
After the 10:30 AM Mass, a
special social has been planned
to bid Father Daniel farewell as
he leaves to begin his new
assignment in Connellsville.
Sometime before next
Sunday, you are encouraged to
write (by hand, on paper) a note
of gratitude for Father Daniel’s
ministry here and/or a word of
encouragement for his next ministry position. Even if
you do not know Fr. Daniel well, please take some
time to show him your support.
We often hear of the shortage of priests. Aware
of the dwindling numbers, it is even more important
to show our gratitude for the ministry of the clergy
and offer our prayers to bolster their faith and
energize their spirits.
Plan to take some time after Mass next weekend
to share with Father Daniel your words of
encouragement.
Welcome to David Leo
We are happy to
announce that we have
hired a full time Director
of Music who will begin
work in the parish on
February 1.
David Leo received his
Bachelor of Music degree
from Duquesne University
and did graduate work at
both Duquesne and
Carnegie-Mellon Universities in Pittsburgh before
completing his graduate studies in New York City
at the Manhattan School of Music.
He also attended Carlow College and the
University of Notre Dame for liturgical and RCIA
studies. Over the last thirty years he has served
parishes in both the Pittsburgh and Greensburg
Dioceses.
He looks forward to working with the choir,
cantors and the liturgical assembly in developing
a strong musical program here at Mt. St. Peter
Parish
David and his wife, Mary Ann, make their home
in Delmont.
