MIKE GREEN HEADLINES THE
2012 GROSSE POINTE CRISIS CLUB
COMEDY NIGHT FUNDRAISER
Friday, October 26TH
The Grosse Pointe Crisis Club
Comedy Night is back! This year,
making an encore appearance, is
Michigan comedian, Mike Green.
From The President
For the second time this year I would like
to thank the Grosse Pointe Old Devils
for making a contribution to the Club.
In my book they are angels not devils.
Their generous support is very much appreciated.
The weather for the Golf Outing was perfect and the event itself was every bit as
good. Attendance was the best we have
had in the past several years and Ted Eikhoff and Steve Graus deserve our thanks
for a job well done. The volunteers who
worked on the event, Jim Maniere would
be one example among many, deserve
our thanks also.
Comedy Night 2012, on October 26th,
will be our next major event. In a previous newsletter I stated that I believe
this event is a wonderful way to spend
an evening. The price is a bargain and
the entertainment has always been very
good. If you have never attended this
event you have been missing a great opportunity to enjoy a fun filled night.
At the last Trustee meeting we had a discussion regarding Article 1, Section 4 of
Natural likeability, original jokes
and the knowledge to make it all
look made up every time...this is
what Mike Green brings to the table. With a strong improv background,
he has worked with Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Titus. Green was
Hour Detroit Magazine’s 2011 Comedian of the Year and Laughfest 2011’s
Best Clean Comedy award winner. His infectious enthusiasm and entertaining stories will keep you in stitches.
Another Michigan native, Jeff Dwoskin, will open the show. Jeff takes on
a variety of topics and has used his personal blend of sarcasm and unique
insights to become a club favorite while building a fan base all his own..
This years’ show will be hosted by the Clubs’ resident Master of Ceremonies
Rich Higgenbottom, who has been found entertaining at Joey’s Comedy
Club/Kickers Lounge in Livonia, MI.
Past attendees have said comedy night is “the best value on the Eastside”.
We offer generous cocktails, great food and excellent entertainment all for
$35 per person. This is a Crisis Club couple’s event so please bring your
spouse, family, neighbors, friends and business associates and introduce
them to this outstanding Crisis Club event.
Comedy Night details can be found in the flyer included with this newsletter. Doors open at 6:30 P.M.
Reservations are strongly encouraged, so please confirm your attendance
by contactngTed Eikhoff, by email [email protected] or phone at 313407-9132.

Crisis Case Corner
By Donald H. Vormelker - Crisis Case Director
Thank You Notes Received
Case 1464
D.Vormelker
A young single woman called the GPCC Hotline for assistance with rent and utilities. During the interview it
was determined that she received the phone number from
a friend of hers whom we had assisted earlier in the year.
The case was rejected.
Case 1463
To the Grosse Pointe Crisis Club,
A few weeks ago I had been referred to your group by
a good friend of mine whose husband is one of your
members. I had recently had cancer surgery and have
been unable to work for some time.
Case 1465
J. Oreson - D. Vormelker
An elderly woman contacted the Crisis Club based on a
recommendation from her social worker. After review, it
was determined she needed a ramp for her wheelchair to
allow her to get in and out of her home. The Club paid for
the ramp and the installation.
When Don phoned me, offering to come to my home
and offer help, I was stunned at the kindness and generosity of your club. My utility bills were behind, all
about to be shut-off, and I had been very worried about
how to take care of these bills. Your club has given me
much peace, in making the utility bills current, and
alongside that making my car payment current, which
was also a worry. The Grosse Pointe Crisis Club also
provided a working dryer, which I had been without for
more than three years.
Case 1466
J. Oreson - D. Vormelker
An older couple was referred by a GPCC member. The
husband has cancer and is unable to work. He has filed for
SSDIB and is waiting for his first check. They were moving to a more affordable rental and needed help with the
security deposit and the first months rent, which the Club
provided.
PLEASE NOTE!
We encourage our members to refer people or families in
a possible crisis or emergency, but we ask our members to
contact the Crisis Director or any Trustee in person. Please
do not give anyone the hot-line number, or the telephone
number of case investigators or any other Crisis Club
member.

2012 Kotcher’s Kapers Golf Outing
Photos by Sue Solomon and Ted Eikhoff
The Crisis Club had absolutely perfect weather at the
2012 Kotcher’s Kapers Golf Outing and the only thing
better than the weather was the foursome of Carl Mitself,
C.R. Mitself, Richard Dorman & Dave Zimmerman. They
posted an unbelievable score of 54 to beat out the other
30 teams at Sycamore Hills.
As Co-Chairman of this annual event, I want to thank all
of the players, beverage and tee sponsors as well as the
volunteers for their commitment to support our Crisis
Club golf outing. This year we had 122 golfers, a 49%
increase over last year’s event.
With a reduction in operating costs and many generous
players and sponsors, the event raised over $12,300 to
support the Crisis Club and the needy people we support.
Please keep the Kotcher’s Kapers Golf Outing on your
calendar for August 5, 2013.
Sincerely,
Steve Graus and Ted Eikhoff, Co-Chairmen

the Club By-Laws. The discussion was centered on the following sentence in that Section. “Any new member shall
assist in the investigation of at least one crisis case investigation during his first year of membership. “We have not
been doing this for a number of years. I have been a member of the club since the year 2000. I have never been
involved in the investigation of a case and I have no desire
to do so. We are dealing with people who find themselves
in a difficult, stressful situation. Investigating these cases
is not a walk in the park. We can’t predict when we will
receive a request for help and a timely response is often
necessary. I intend to call a special meeting of the Club
Trustees to discuss possible changes to this By-Law. At this
point in time we have no preconceived notions as to what
we might do. What we may like to do and what we are
capable of doing are probably not identical due to the fact
that we do not have a paid staff member to make phone
calls, set up appointments or schedule people. The simple
solution would be to eliminate the sentence from the
club By-Laws. However that course of action would run
counter to the goal of encouraging member participation
in Club activities. If you have any thoughts on this matter
please let me or any of our Trustees know.
