THE MILESTONES
• 2004: Academy was created by ESF-project
• 2005: first athletes were selected
• 2007: ESF-project ended and Academy became a
permanent training and education system by the contract
of educational institutions
• 2008: Lapland Sports Academy received the title of
National Top Sport Academy that was granted by Finnish
Olympic Committee
• 2010-2012: Academy profiled more in winter sports

APPLICATION
• In spring application to Ounasvaara Senior high school
specialized in sports, Lapland Vocational College and
Education Centre of Santa Claus’ Sports Institute
– Selection is based on success of sport and studies and entrance
examination
• In autumn application to University of Lapland and Rovaniemi
University of Applied Sciences
– Selection is based on success of sport
– Before selection athletes have to ensure their student place
