I offer my opponents a bargain: If they will stop telling lies about me, I will stop telling the truth about them …. Adlai Stevenson
Our 2016 Cols representatives! It was the club’s pleasure to host a dinner for the Cols Reps, present them jackets, and
send them on their way to a weekend of fun and learning. The two reps from Cardinal Newman High School were not
able to attend. From Saltfleet High School, Natasa Matijerie and Dimitry Knezevic. From Orchard Park Seconday School,
Abhi Jhangi and Amrten Mander. We look forward to seeing them involve themselves in the community and deepen
their association with Optimists. Thanks to Hazen Meyers for contacting the schools and helping in the selection of the
students.
60 years of Presidents of the Stoney Creek Optimist Club. An
updated collection of pictures was unveiled at the May 25th
meeting and is an interesting historical record of the club leadership over the years. Several members were involved in the
restoration of the previous collection and the addition of pictures of more recent Presidents. The frames will hang in the
main hall . It is worth taking the time to remind yourself of the
years of leadership that have produced the Stoney Creek Optimist club

Saturday, May 14th and
everyone dug into cleaning the Hall. A busy time
for everyone but the result made it all worthwhile. Optimist Al spent
his time around the bar
(as usual?) while Joan, Joy
and Paul did clean up.
Special thanks to all the other members who worked so hard couldn’t take time off for publicity photographs.
Perhaps, this is an annual event we should schedule. There was no question that the Hall looked better as a
result of the work. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
We all need a summer break ——— so here it is!!
Wednesday, June 8 — a special Bar B-Q
For all members and your significant other
Gathering 6:30 pm — Dinner 7::00 pm
Wine will be provided at the tables. Cost—$10.00 per person
A special way to celebrate our successes this year
and say thanks to members, family and friends
We will see you through the summer at Little League, at the Candy Booth
And at Peach Festival
A rookie cop was on his first day in a patrol car. The sergeant had teamed him up with a more experienced officer. After a
quiet hour , a call came through asking them to disperse a group of people who were loitering on the corner of a street. “I’ll
handle this.” said the rookie excitedly. So when they got to the street and saw a small crowd on a corner, he leapt out the car
and yelled: “OK, move along now. Haven’t you got homes to go to?” the crowd were reluctant to disperse, so he repeated
the command: “Come on now, move on. “ Puzzled , they slowly drifted off in different directions. The rookie climbed back in
the patrol car. “Not bad, huh?” he said proudly to his partner. “Yeah, you did OK. Pity it was a bus stop.”
A man who had jus died is delivered to a local mortuary and he’s wearing an expensive , expertly tailored black suit. The mortician asks the
deceased’s wife how she would like the body dressed, pointing out that the man did look good in the black suit he was already wearing
The widow, however, says that she always thought her husband looked his best in blue, and she wants him in a blue suit. She gives the
mortician a blank cheque and says, “I don’t care what it costs, but please have my husband in a blue suit for the viewing.
The women returns the next day and to her delight she finds her husband dressed in a gorgeous blue suit with a subtle chalk strip. The suit
fits him perfectly.
She says to the mortician, “Whatever this cost, I’m satisfied. You did an excellent job and I’m grateful. How much did you spend ?
To her astonishment , the mortician presents her with the blank cheque. “There is no charge.”
“No really, I must compensate you for the cost of that exquisite blue suit,” she says..
“Honestly, ma’am, “ the mortician says. “It cost nothing. You see a deceased gentleman of about husband’s size was brought in shortly
after you left yesterday, and he was wearing an attractive blue suit. I asked his wife if she minded him going to his grave wearing a black
suit instead and she said it made no difference as long as he looked nice.”
“So I just switched the heads.”
Congratulations to the Orchard Park Robotics team
that was awarded second place in a recent International competition We provide financial assistance
to the group.
Culture for Kids is still planning a mural for the outside of the Optimist Building. Details are not yet
available but it should be a summer project for the
group.
Promise Yourself…
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your
peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to
every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and
make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the
best and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of
others as you are about your own.
For the 2016 Season, approximately 350 have registered for Little League. Baseball. Congratulations to
the Executive and the other volunteers with Little
League for this accomplishment. It means we will
sell even more Freezies at the Candy Booth.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on
to the greater achievements of the future.
Thanks to Nathan Kazin for his work in organizing
the schedule for the Candy Booth. It’s a big job, but
thanks to all of Nathan’s work and the many who
have volunteered to help, it is moving smoothlyl
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger,
too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the
the presence of trouble.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and
give every living creature you meet a smile
To give so much time to the improvement of
yourself that you have no time to be critical of
others.
