S.C.A.N.’ s motto says it all:
“ All children are special, ours just have additional needs”
S.C.A.N. now has their Education & Activity Center open where families can work
hands on with their children on therapeutic activities. We can now offer Mommy &
Me classes, Money & Time classes, Homework Swap, Garden Club, Drama Club
and various forms of technology for children to engage in educational activities. It’ s
all about supporting our children and their families, bringing awareness of various
diagnoses to the community and supporting the inclusion of our children through our
various programs in the community.

Ribbon Run
For
Inclusion
Mark your calendars for May 10!
S.C.A.N. will be holding its first ever
Ribbon Run for Inclusion. The benefits
from this Fun Run/Walk 5k will help fund
programs ran by S.C.A.N.
S.C.A.N. is an all-inclusive support group
that does not discriminate based on
diagnosis. We accept them all. We also do
not discriminate based on age because
cognitive age is what really matters. We
strive to serve the whole family through
our programs.
We believe that all children should
have the chance to interact together
because we can all learn from each
other.

with gluten are eaten. Glutens are a
form of protein found in some grains.
The damage to the intestine makes it
hard for the body to absorb nutrients,
especially fat, calcium, iron, and folate.
What Causes Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease -- also
known as celiac sprue
or gluten-sensitive
enteropathy -- is a
digestive and
autoimmune disorder
that results in damage

intestine when foods
Normally, the body's immune system is
designed to protect it from foreign
invaders. When people with celiac
disease eat foods containing gluten,
their immune system forms antibodies to
gluten which then attack the intestinal
lining. This causes inflammation in the
intestines and damages the villi, the
hair-like structures on the lining of the
small intestine. Nutrients from food are
normally absorbed by the villi. If the villi
are damaged, the person cannot
absorb nutrients properly and ends up
malnourished, no matter how much he

S.C.A.N. has been blessed enough to find a
bigger facility.
As of June, we will be in a 3,000 square foot
facility located at 250 East Elm. This is the old
NAPA building where All About Beauty is
currently located.
This facility will allow us to have more a gym
atmosphere which was Terry’s original vision.
There will be greater opportunities at this
facility.
