Next Meeting: November 10th 8:30 AM ‐ 2:30 PM Topic: Education Location: North Lincoln O.C.C.C. The Chamber would like to introduce you to the 34 participants in this year’s Leadership Lincoln program.
We’d like to give you an opportunity to learn a little more about some of the members of this year’s class. Below
are three participants and in subsequent issues of this newsletter, we’ll profile the remainder of the group.
Vivian Baldwin is the Chief Office Deputy at the Lincoln County Assessor’s Office here in
Newport. Vivian finds that her job is never boring, and that she learns new things every day. Vivian
joined Leadership Lincoln because she wants to learn more about Lincoln County and the people in it.
When Vivian’s not working, she likes to read, listen to music and doing yard work.
Becky Jukkala is an Office Specialist with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office here in
Newport. Becky likes working with people and performing the wide varieties of duties that she’s
assigned. Becky joined Leadership Lincoln because she wants to create business relationships and
contacts and gain some insight into leadership skills. When Becky’s not working, she’s spending
time at the beach, playing with her granddaughter and visiting with family.
Ted Smith is the Library Director for the Newport Public Library.
Ted enjoys meeting
people, sharing great books with others and working with technology. Ted joined Leadership Lincoln
because he wanted to learn about his new home he calls Newport, learn and practice networking skills
and develop his professional and leadership skills. When Ted is not working, he likes to fish, read
(naturally) and spend time with his wife playing music (Ted plays his drums).

The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce would like to present
two Employees of the Month! The two individuals received these
awards for exceeding the criteria of quality of service, friendliness,
knowledge of the area, and being a role model for other
employees!
For August, the Employee of the Month is Christie Meister, the
Chief Civil Deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Christie was nominated by Lincoln County Sheriff Dennis Dotson.
Christie’s Quality of Service is “recognized statewide as expert in
the Oregon Rules of Civil Procedure by the Oregon State Sheriff’s
Association and the Oregon Legislature,” According to Sheriff
Dennis Dotson. When someone requests a copy of a Sheriff’s Report, Christie has trained her team well to locate, react,
and make that report available as provided by law. Christie and her team also seize and sell real or personal property as
ordered by the courts and ensure enforcement of ‘Orders of Assistance’ for the custody of children. “These services are
structured by law and there is no room for error. Christie has received statewide recognition for excellence in
performing these responsibilities,” says Sheriff Dotson. Christie has resided in Newport for over 30 years, and is well
known in the community for being very knowledgeable about the many opportunities available to residents and visitors
alike. Christie is very friendly, a team player and multi-tasker of the “highest caliber.” Christie is an excellent role model
for anyone.
Ric Rabourn, Christie Meister and Lorna Davis
For September, the Employee of the Month is Ric Rabourn, the General Manager for the Hallmark Resort in Newport.
Ric was nominated by Hallmark Resort’s management team.
Hallmark Resort’s management team says that: “We all feel that Ric is one of the best bosses we have ever had. His
door is always open to any of the Hallmark employees. All suggestions, comments and concerns receive equal
consideration whether from a manager or a line employee.” Hallmark Resort’s management team continues by stating:
“Ric is a strong leader. He exemplifies fairness. You might not always like what he has to say, but no one can ever say
that they were not treated fairly, were not heard or respected, or given every opportunity to succeed.”
Ric has been with the Hallmark resort for the past 9 years. He is active in the community as a member of the
“Destination Newport” committee, is on the board of his
church, and owns “The Muscle Studio” in South Beach.
According to Hallmark Resort’s management team:
“Ric is a role model and mentor. He is not afraid to jump
