Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord!
Effective July 1st, 2016, Archbishop Leonard Blair
appointed me as Administrator of St. Timothy
Parish. Before this assignment, I was priest in
residence at St. Elizabeth Seton in Rocky. I
would like to thank Fr. Henry Cody who has done
such a wonderful job at the parish over so many
years. Also, sincere gratitude is extended to
some staff members who will be leaving the
parish as they move on in their lives. Thank you
everyone for your wonderful contributions over
the years. For us remaining, I sincerely hope and
pray that we will continue spreading the “Joy of
the Gospel,” as Pope Francis in Evangelii
gaudium reminded us.
I will be joining the parish on August 9th, 2016. I
will be away for over a month, taking my annual
vacation and attending the African Eucharistic
Congress at Catholic University of America,
during the first week of August.
Brother priests and current staff members have
kindly agreed to assist me in my absence. All
activities will continue as scheduled during the
summer. However, please note that office hours
will be from Monday to Friday: 9:30am -2:30pm
(this is a permanent adjustment).
If you have any questions please do not hesitate
to contact me via e-mail and I will respond as
quickly as I can: [email protected]. I
wish you all a very lovely summer and I will see
you when I return. May God Bless St. Timothy
Parish!
Fr. George Mukuka
Administrator
St. Timothy Parish
SPECIAL REMINDER: This coming Monday is the
4th of July, a national holiday. Mass will be at
9:00 am and please note that the office is closed.
Phone messages will be checked periodically
throughout the holiday weekend and emergency
calls returned. Other business will be addressed
again on Tuesday, July 5th.

New to the Parish? Welcome! Please introduce
From the Desk of Our Pastoral Associate
The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate life and offers us
an opportunity to pause and be grateful for all we have as
a country founded on principles of equality and freedom.
Truly, we have had an abundant harvest as a nation;
supermarkets stacked to the ceiling with food; freedom of
speech, press, assembly; blessings of resources, talents,
strengths. At the same time we are well aware that not
everyone shares equally in this abundance - we still face
appalling poverty, ghastly prejudices, gross abuse of
power.
As we move into the first weekend without Fr. Cody at
the helm, we feel the “afterglow” of last weeks’ celebration:
the gathering of the parish to thank him for his 28 years of
service, a wonder filled concert that was balanced with
beautiful opera arias, show tunes, themes from movies
and T.V. as well as the remarks from the “rectory
roasters.” A time to celebrate life, St. Timothy life, and we
are so grateful for what has been. Now it is time to slowly
move into the next phase of our parish journey. Today’s
readings are wonderful reminders of who we are, who we
have been called to be.
The very first symbolic action in the rite of Baptism is
the invitation to parents and god parents to make the sign
of the cross on the forehead of the one to be baptized. It
is thru this sign that we have been called, sent and
understand who we are.
It is the cross of Jesus Christ that creates all things
new. It reorders our priorities; it refashions our identities; it
sometimes puts us in opposition to the standards of the
world. Because of the cross of Jesus Christ, we no longer
judge success or failure by the abundance of our nations’
harvest, freedoms and resources. No longer do we
separate people by gender or race or religious tradition. A
new reality has been formed, with peace and mercy as its
identifying characteristics. It is the cross, first experienced
at Baptism, that marks us as followers of Jesus, reminding
us that we are a new creation.
Both the first reading and the psalm give us a glimpse
of what can happen when the new creation becomes
reality, when the words of Jesus are taken seriously. The
city is renewed; the world is rejuvenated; the prosperity of
God is enjoyed by all; those who suffer are comforted; the
kindness of God fills the whole world.
Because we are marked with the sign of the cross, we
can also expect mixed blessings. Not everyone will
welcome the message of the cross, not everyone will
appreciate the new creation it brings. Because we do not
live by the standards of the world, we may be judged as
fools. It makes one wonder why anyone would take on
such a life as we constantly move against the tide. Yet, if
we are honest, we will admit that much of what the world
promotes really goes against the grain of what is truly
human. As we mature in faith we come to know that true
fulfillment, true abundance, is only found in God!
Fr. Cody has prepared us well for the job ahead. We
have no time to lament our loss of a beloved leader. It is
now time to welcome our new leader, Fr. George Mukuka
who will continue to lead us in the “way of the cross,” as
we do our part in building God’s Kingdom on earth.
yourself to one of the staff members. You may register at
the rectory. Please stop by or call the office: 860-233-5131

Baptism Preparation: All those having first babies
baptized are asked to attend an informational class.
Classes during the summer months are by appointment
only. Please contact Pat Piano 860-798-1986; or
[email protected].
Pastoral Care: If you or someone you know would like to
receive Holy Communion at home or while in the hospital,
please call Pat Piano at the rectory, 860-232-8594. Our
team of caregivers is most willing to be of service!
RCIA: What does it mean to be a Catholic? Have you or
someone you know ever asked that question? Have you
ever thought about becoming a Catholic or learning more
about the Catholic faith? We welcome inquiry and are
happy to meet with anyone to offer suggestions about how
those questions can become reality.
Call Pat Piano at 860-798-1986.
Attention Parents: Have you recently had a baby
baptized? Has your child recently received their First Holy
Communion, your teen, the Sacrament of Confirmation?
Are you aware more than ever of the awesome task of
raising a child in the Catholic faith? Sometimes parents, for
one reason or another, have neglected their own faith life,
the life that is passed on from one generation to the next.
Is it time for you to consider becoming a catholic, or
becoming more fully initiated into the Catholic Church by
your reception of First Holy Communion or Confirmation?
For more information, call Pat Piano, Pastoral Associate,
at the rectory, 860-232-8594.
Attention Young Families: The Parish of St. Timothy
is happy to have you and your children with us each
weekend. Your presence here is most welcome, and we
love to hear your children’s tiny voices in our assembly.
In the event your child has an “off day,” we have provided
closed circuit T.V. in the music room of the school so you
can attend Mass while tending to your child. NOTE: there
is a baby changing facility in the lavatory of the school.
Please let us know if there is anything else you may need
from us to make your time here fruitful. Hopefully, you will
call St. Timothy your church “home.”
Things Liturgical: Please be aware of the following:
1. Low-gluten hosts: 0.01% gluten, distributed by
the Eucharistic Minister standing beside the pulpit.
2. If the hymnals are too heavy for you, please know
that all responses for the Mass are on the cards in
every pew.
3. Please place all pew cards at the ends of the
pews and not in the holders for the hymnals.
Thank you.
4. Please take your bulletin home or return it to the
bulletin rack or tables in back of the church. Thank
you.
5. Please gently raise and lower the kneelers to
keep them in good repair. Thank you.
6. For King Philip Dr. Parking, please use the
driveway closest to Tumblebrook for entering and
the one nearest to Aiken School for exiting.
Thank you from Fr. Cody
What a send-off! Last weekend was perfect---the
Masses, the concert, the food, and the chance to say
goodbye to so many old friends. Thank you for all your
cards and gifts and for the privilege of serving you for
28+ years. No matter where I wander, St. Timothy’s
will always stay in my heart. As St. Paul said to the
Philippians, “I give thanks to my God for my memories
of you, happy at all times. God bless you always and
thank you again.
With best wishes always,
Fr. Cody
