Evening of Fellowship
In the Youth Building
Sunday, January 25
5:00 p.m.
Geraldine and Ricky this Sunday 10:30 a.m.
This Sunday will be a special day when Morningside will welcome Geraldine Ragan and Ricky
as our guests in the 10:30 a.m. service. Kids and adults of all ages love Geraldine and Ricky.
Geraldine has been greatly used in churches throughout the United States. Geraldine’s friend
Ricky is a little wooden fellow with bushy black eyebrows, an indelible Southern accent, and
an endearing habit of ending statements with "Amen? Amen!" Geraldine has ministered with
some of the foremost Christian preachers and musicians in the United States in the last 45
years, including the Gaither Homecoming, David Jeremiah and Dr. Charles Stanley. Geraldine
and Ricky faithfully teach Bible truths and bring healing laughter to all who attend.

Hear Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran at Morningside
Sunday evening, February 8, 6:00 p.m.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed recently fired the Chief of the Atlanta Fire Department, Kelvin
Cochran. Would you like to take a guess at the mayor’s reason? Mr. Cochran, a devoted Christian,
wrote a book in 2013 titled, “Who Told You That You Were Naked?” Dr. Gerald Harris, Editor of
The Christian Index wrote the following about Mr. Cochran in his editorial, “In the book he made
mention of the scriptural truth that sexual sins, including adultery, bestiality, pederasty and
homosexuality are ‘perversions.’” Mr. Cochran will have copies of his book available at $10.00
each. I hope you will come prepared to buy a copy.
Certain parts of the liberal media have reported that Mr. Cochran didn’t get prior approval to write his book. Other
media sources reveal that Mr. Cochran did in fact get permission. It is a common tactic among liberals when they
realize that they have stuck their foot in the lard bucket, to take cover by bringing up a different accusation, even if it
is a false one. Apparently, the Mayor doesn’t think Mr. Cochran has the right to free speech. The mayor’s action to
Fire Chief Cochran is a violation of Chief Cochran’s first amendment rights. If a man can be fired for merely
expressing an opinion, America is no longer the land of the free. If God-fearing people do not stand up to support the
right of Chief Cochran to express his opinion, America is no longer the home of the brave. This is the time to stand
up for the most basic of American values. Tell all of your friends, relatives, work associates and neighbors to take a
stand for the first amendment and for Biblical morality by coming to hear Chief Cochran at Morningside on
February 8 at 6:00 p.m.

Youth Building
We are in store for a great time together on Sunday evening in the Youth Building with THE GREAT
MORNINGSIDE CHILI COOK-OFF. It all begins at 5:00 p.m. There will be no 4:30 p.m. activities. We will have a
great time of fellowship together. Please sign up online at www.morningside.ws or in the church foyer. Let us know
the number that will be attending from your family and if you are bringing chili, cornbread, crackers, desserts, or all
of the above. I want to encourage Sunday School Coordinators to do an “all-call” of your Sunday School enrollment.
Let’s call our prospects also. This is a superb time to invite the unchurched to enjoy this time with us. Remember,
“Don’t be silly and miss the chili!”
Looking forward to a great day of worship and fellowship together with you this Sunday.
Brother Wayne
Praise the Lord for a wonderful Sunday! The Lord blessed us with guests, new enrollees, and
good attendance in Sunday School. Brother Wayne’s Sunday morning message on “Why be
Pro-Life?” was excellent, straightforward, and moving. Sunday night we had another wonderful
worship service followed by a great College & Career fellowship at the Tattersall home. Praise
the Lord for His blessings!

Basic Training got off to a fine start Sunday with 2 students present. This
class is somewhat smaller than previous classes but the students seem eager
and motivated. Please pray for the Basic Training students throughout the
nine-week class.
College & Career Update: Classes have resumed and our students are back in the swing of things. Please pray for
them as they attend class, study, and seek to be a witness for Jesus Christ on their campus.
The students and leaders are very excited about the renovation and changes taking place in the College & Career
building. Paint is on the walls, flooring will go in soon, and before long our classes will move into their new
classrooms. A big thanks goes to John Johnson who is doing a wonderful job with this renovation. More exciting
changes are coming!
The Gospel of Mark – As you read this article I am writing member lessons for our spring quarter study of the
Gospel of Mark. This is a brand new study that I am very excited about. Mark’s gospel is often overlooked, since it
is shorter than the other gospels and much of its content is also included in Matthew, Luke, or John. Regardless, it is
still the Word of God and contains many important spiritual lessons for us.
The theme of our study will be following Jesus. Each lesson will teach a different aspect or benefit of following
Jesus. We will study Mark throughout the months of March, April, and May. I hope you will plan to be present every
Sunday.
Upcoming Events – Get your calendar and mark down the following dates:
 New Quarter Begins – March 1 – the Gospel of Mark
 Time Change – March 7 – spring forward one hour
 Children’s Bible Drill – March 15 – 6:00 p.m.
 Associational Sunday School Rally – Monday, March 23 here at Morningside
 Spring Break – March 30 – April 3
 Easter – April 5
 Vacation Bible School – June 1-5
How do you react when you are corrected? This Sunday in Sunday School you will learn about godly sorrow. I hope
to see you there at 8:45 a.m.

I Have a Heavenly Father
Written by Daryl Williams
Sometimes burdens so heavy to carry
Send me down on my knees;
In the Lord’s presence I will then tarry,
Waiting for victory.
As I look upward into His glory,
Troubles all fade from view.
When a sweet voice says child rejoice,
I’m watching over you.
David Tew
Traveling over the hills and mountains
I am led by His hand;
When I am thirsty He is my fountain
In the dry desert sand;
Crossing the troubled waters He’s with me
Walking on every wave.
He’s loving so much it’s easy to trust,
With simple childlike faith.
I have a heavenly Father
Watching over me.
Oh, I have a heavenly Father
Watching every step I take.
I will not tremble in the dark shadows
When I can’t see my way;
For I have a heavenly Father
Watching over me.
WOW! The High School Ensemble was a tremendous blessing Sunday morning as they sang, “I Have a Heavenly
Father.” I am so proud of this group of students that are committed to rehearsals and singing opportunities. I am
privileged to work with them every week and watch them grow spiritually and musically. Would you pray with me
that God would continue to use them for His glory?
Did you catch the message in the song the Ensemble sang? It is easy to get caught up in the fact that the young people
are singing and miss an important truth in the lyric of the song. We will all go through troubles and trials, that is a
sure thing. But we have a greater “sure thing” in the person of Jesus Christ. He is watching over me for my
protection to help guide me in the path He has set for me. That is a great reason to rejoice.
I am looking forward to eating some fantastic chili on Sunday night. We will be tasting all of the chili to find the
favorite of the church. Don’t forget to bring your favorite dessert to share with our church family. The High School
Ensemble will be singing as part of the program for the evening.
