"LUEBKE WEAVES MAGIC"
from SNOW GOOSE
FOR GRADES 3 - 12
"Dyed-in-the-wool dance fans and
novices will thrill to SUN.ERGOS' JUST
DANCE…Luebke celebrates movement
in a myriad of incarnations…Rarely
does an audience get to watch dance
this close up, and such pr oximity
makes Luebke's performance all the
more exciting. There is no room for
pretension…Luebke's
array
of
passionate dances displays pride, joy,
reverence, torment and exuberance with
equal skill…JUST DANCE is just
terrific."
THE CALGARY HERALD

PRESENTATION
JUST DANCE: As THE CALGARY HERALD continues, "Departing from SUN.ERGOS'
usual format, this production separates the dance and theatre elements, presenting
(as the title suggests) just dance. But one cannot describe what Dana Luebke does
in one and a half hours of weaving magic as 'just' anything; that might imply there's
something missing [--and] there isn't. Without fantastic sets or sleight-of-hand, live
orchestra or lovely ballerinas, right up close, the slender dancer[excites and
profoundly] moves us." Using themes from nature, disabilities, war, lullabies, folkdances, newspaper articles, Mr. Luebke creates the widest possible spectrum of
dance forms and styles. The performance is a tour-de-force.
Moving the Human Spirit!
"Not only does this new program make sense, it is very sensual and emotive…There are outstanding
pieces in this magical show…Luebke's physical control creates a mood that permeates him
completely…beautiful…Catch this show…you'll become a dance fan."

TITLE OF SHOW(S):
LENGTH OF SHOW(S):
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
JUST DANCE
50-minutes, plus 10-minute Question Period
[see enclosed tech sheet(s)]
THEME [describe in one sentence]: A celebration of contemporary dance of solo performances: the theme is
human emotions.
CONTENT [brief description of pieces in show]: This show is a genuine, versatile exploration through nine
dances of the range of human emotional experience, taking its inspiration from folk-traditions, newspaper articles, nature, paintings, scripts and arias, through the expressive range, depth and energy of human movement.
The dancer is on stage throughout the entire performance, wiping his face with a towel, sipping water, powdering his feet between pieces while he gives a brief explanation of how the next dance came to be – it is “just dance”.
GOAL [what is the purpose of this show]: To make accessible, understandable and meaningful the art-forms
of dance which often audiences say they do not understand or that they fashionably say they do not like; to give
the audience an experience with dance they will never forget.
POINT OF VIEW OF ARTISTS [brief description]: That dance is a comprehensible, compassionate and accessible art-form that deeply moves and enriches our lives as much today as it ever has.
CLASSIFICATION [i.e.: ADULT, FESTIVAL, FAMILY, YOUNG AUDIENCE]: Festival, Adult and Teen-age audiences. The show has played successfully overseas because of the emotionality of the pieces, the clarity of the
presentation of the movementl vocbulary, the universality of the dance itself and the understanding of intonation, music and spirit in the dance. It has played as well as in community series, festivals and Fringes.
PRESENTATION [skills used to present show]: JUST DANCE is done on a completely bare stage with black
surrounds, one white chair, a grey towel and a sports, drinking bottle for water. The costume is simple, a white
leotard, shaded at the legs and arms from black to grey to white with black leg-warmers. The mood of each
dance is enhanced by coloured, patterned light. The body is left absolutely clear to express the forms, ideas and
emotions.
TARGET AUDIENCE [i.e.: Seniors, multi-cultural groups, etc.]: Festival, Adult and Teen-age audiences. But,
we want to target people who don’t like dance – why preach only to the converted? They will really enjoy it anyway – but new-comers, teen-agers who struggle with or think that modern and classic dance is for sissies or for
egg-heads – this show will change their thinking and dispel many misconceptions and prejudices.
CAST [see Bios]: [Mr.] Dana Luebke (dancer-actor)
LANGUAGE(S) IN WHICH SHOW IS PERFORMED: English; one dance is done to the Spanish text from Garcia
Lorca’s BODAS DES SANGRES [BLOOD WEDDING].
