Corky Kell Classic - McEachern High School
Most high school football programs never have the opportunity to play in a professional
stadium. McEachern fans are able to mark their calendar by trips to the Georgia Dome
for the annual Corky Kell Classic.
Corky Kell Classic
Carlton J. Corky Kell was instrumental in helping
Create this classic preseason high school football
Event. This event, in which McEachern is one of
Co-sponsors is usually the week before the regulaTion season begins in the high school season. The site is the
Georgia Dome, which has also hosted the Atlanta Falcons, the
Olympic Games, Georgia State Football, the Peach Bowl, the SEC
Championship and the Super Bowl. McEachern players annually look forward to the opportunity to
showcase their talent in this amazing state of the art venue.
Over the past ten years, the Classic has contributed more than $60,000 to the C orky Kell Scholarship
Fund. Many deserving Cobb County students have benefited from those scholarships. This fine tribute helps to memorialize the great contributions that Corky Kell made while serving as Head Football
coach at Wheeler High School and as county athletic director in his 30 years of service.
Former McEachern Head Coach Jimmy Dorsey comments:
The “Corky Kell Kick-off Classic” was started 21 years ago because of the vision of Corky Kell, Cobb
County Athletic Director, and Ralph Williams, Principal of McEachern High School, who wanted to
showcase Georgia High School Football in the New Georgia Dome facility. The event over the last 21
years has grown into one of the most recognized High School Football events in the southeast as well as
the nation. McEachern and Brookwood High Schools have participated ever year in this contest and
through their commitment have assured the continued success of the event to its present position.
