We’ve Been Busy
Preserving the tradition of The Little Traveler is a priority, yet we know it’s also
important to grow and change in a world that won’t stand still. All the renovations
you’ve seen around here during the past several months—the new Lighting
Gallery, Atrium Café remodel, new Bath Shop, opening of Swarovski Boutique,
growth of Fair Trade and Housewares, etc.—have been approached in a way that
meets both goals. Throughout this issue of the Almanack, we’ll highlight some
of these changes.

Fair Trade Galleries
We have the most extensive selection of fair trade products in Chicagoland.
Fair trade is a beautiful way for artisans around the world to earn a fair
living. Meet a few of our vendors: through personal relationships,
Sitara Collections hopes to reduce global artisans’ dependence on
shadowy middlemen so that they may earn a fair living from their
ancestral crafstmanship. New Sitara rough-cut gemstone earrings
are edgy while also being classically chic. Eangee Home Design
uses sustainable, eco-friendly materials in its fair trade goods
for the home, like the Driftwood Orb lamp pictured, made
with fossilized jackfruit leaves. Striped hammocks from
Minga Fair Trade are perfect for warm summer days. In the
indigenous South American language of Quechua, Minga
means “communal work day,” mirroring the way these products come together through a common goal.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL with Matthew Hoffman
Y Saturday, June 18 at 9am
Meet Chicago-based artist Matthew Hoffman, the man
who started a global movement with a simple sticker declaring “you are beautiful.” Today, over 2 million of these
stickers have been shared all over the world and have even
grown into full scale public installations of art. Matthew will
show a short film about the project and sign his book, A Decade of You Are
Beautiful. $15 ticket includes breakfast. Register online or by phone.
As the only Gold Heart store in the area, we’re
the largest independent Brighton dealer around with
the biggest and most complete selection in Chicagoland. New
Lovable jewelry is simple and sleek with a cushion-cut Swarovski stone to resemble fine jewelry. Choose from a rainbow of elegant colors.
Bold patterns reminiscent of Italian gardens decorate Brighton totes this season—just the thing to fashionably carry
your summer essentials. Soft leather
solids in buckets, organizers, and crossbodies blend function and design.

A Letter from a Friend
Dear Little Traveler,
I met my "bestest" friend Sue on our first day of kindergarten in Wheaton
in the early 60s. When we would visit Little Traveler, of course the Toy Room
was our favorite, especially the stuffed animals (which still are the best). If
we were allowed to pick one out, our “system” was to hold two of the same
style next to each other to see which one had the cutest face. Flash forward
30 years when Sue was visiting me from PA, and of course we made a trip
to LT. She wanted to bring back something for her daughter, and in that
Toy Room again, we both instinctively reached for 2 of the same adorable
stuffed animal, smooshed them up together and said “which one has the
cutest face?” Love, love LT and I actually feel happier before I even get there,
just knowing I’m on my way.
