The Three Choirs Festival, a biennial regional event
of classical vocal music, this year offers a beautiful
selection of works from the early 16th Century right
up to the present day. John Ross, Albury-based
composer, who is internationally recognised, will present
a new work during the Festival. His ‘Festival Te Deum’
is also on the programme. Audience favourites ‘How
lovely is thy dwelling place’ from Brahms’ A German
Requiem, Widor’s organ Toccata, Elgar’s Lux Aeterna,
an arrangement of the Nimrod section from his Enigma
Variations, and Britten’s Jubilate Deo will surely delight
you. Rarely-heard pieces by Mendelssohn, Casals,
Gjeilo, Palestrina, Wesley and Brumel for women’s and
men’s choruses will provide a diverse range of musical
styles and textures. Siegfried Franke, sub-organist
of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne, and a concertrecitalist of the first rank, will accompany the massed
choirs of Albury, Beechworth and Wangaratta, and also
offer several organ solos to complete the programme.
These concerts of the 2012 Three Choirs Festival
promise to be a must-hear musical experience for the
residents and visitors in southern NSW and north-east
Victoria.
