YIM sharing the Spirit of Christmas!
The Christmas Season starts early for our YIM Youth in Ministry High School Youth group. On Saturday December 5 th our YIM members and adult volunteers met to pack
homemade cookies for our parishioners away at college. Cookies were all baked by YIM members, their family, friends of St. Charles-St. Ann and parishioners. The YIM
room was filled with cookies and boxes were packed with a large tray of assorted cookies, hot chocolate, candy canes and a hand written personalized Christmas
card. Our members and adults packed, wrote cards and got the 30 boxes to the Post Office. Here’s a little note we received: “ Dear YIM members, Thank you so much
for the Christmas cookies and holiday goodies. It was awesome to know that you were think of me and I was very surprised. As fot the cookies, they didn’t last very long
and were gone by the end of the night. My roommate and I are very thankful and wish all of you a safe and happy holiday. Sincerely, Christian and Adam” The packages
are mailed during finals week to help with the stress and to send a little love from home.
On December 19th a very cheerful group of YIM members went caroling to the nursing homes. They gathered after the 4:00 Mass and set out to bring some musical cheer
to St. Camillus Nursing Home and Bellevue Nursing Home. The teens were given adorable little jars decorated by our Kindergarten Faith Formation class. The children
here made this jars filled with candy to give to the residents at the Nursing Homes. Everyone was so surprised to receive gifts! A younger sibling of one of our Confirmation teachers and former YIM member came and sang but also handed out cards to the residents. These cards came from her class at school in the Westhill District
– what a nice surprise! There’s nothing like the feeling you get singing “Silent Night” – the joy it brings lets you experience the true meaning of Christmas.
Our favorite YIM event of the year is the “Christmas Morning with Syracuse City School Elementary Children”. This year the event took place at Dr. King Elementary
School and 55 teens from St. Charles-St. Ann joined up with teens from St. Joseph’s in Camillus to visit with 98 2 nd graders at Dr. King School. Each child has a one-onone morning spent with a teenager. Each teenager had previously purchase a stuffed animal for their specific child. When we arrived at Dr. King they were paired up
with the 2nd grader and they spent the next 2 hours coloring, playing with their new animal and sharing stories. We brought down coloring books and crayons, donut
holes and muffins, juice boxes and candy canes. It was a soaking rainy day outside, but inside the warmth was overwhelming. There, in the middle of the inner city, there
was the Spirit of Giving and Love and Joy! We all went back to the classrooms and the teenagers got a chance to have their child read to them and they colored and
talked some more. It was hard to leave, but we left feeling the love only true giving can bring. A couple of our members commented as we walked out the building,
“Please can we come back again this year and visit with them? Maybe we could come at Easter time or in the Spring. We loved our little new friend and we so want to
see them again”. I guess that says it all.
None of what our YIM group does would ever be possible without the help of amazing adults who give of their time and talents. A huge thanks to all who baked, packed
cookies, went caroling, drove to Dr. King Elementary – we can’t thank you all enough! You know who you are and we thank God for your support and most of all for your
example. In this year of Mercy, may all of us here at St. Charles-St. Ann’s reach out first to the Lord, to receive His endless mercy and love and next reach out to those
in need – wherever they may be. Wishing all God’s peace and blessings for the New Year!

Respect Life
As United States citizens, we deplore the fact that our nation is at
risk of forgetting the promise made to generations yet unborn by
our Declaration of Independence: That our nation would respect
life as first among the inalienable rights bestowed on us by our
Creator. To uphold that promise, the nation’s founders pledged
their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. We must do no
less.
NCCB, “Abortion and the Supreme Court: Advancing the Culture of
Death,” Nov. 15, 2000
Thank you for your past donations of Christmas card covers that
are used as gift tags for the following year on the giving tree. We
have an overabundance of cards left, so we would ask that you
please recycle your cards this year.
