Letter From the COO/General Manager
2014 Annual Meeting
of Equity Members
Dear Members,
The Board and Management have been very busy this
summer keeping St Ives a premier facility in the area. I
am often asked, “What are you guys up to?” and “How
is the Club doing?” Well, we have been very busy in
several areas of your Club. We have replaced several pieces
of equipment in the Turnberry Grille’s kitchen to help speed up food
production. Two new permanent pavilions have been built at the Tennis
Center with lighting and ceiling fans. The Windsor Ballroom received a
face lift with new carpet, paint and curtains. There have also been several
specific questions that I have been asked lately about the Golf Course and
Grounds and feel this is a great time to update the Membership:
Golf:
• The new hitting mats have been installed and are now open. Please
note that you are able to place a tee in the mats. You will no longer
need to position yourself in front of the mats to hit drivers.
• The Range targets have been re-sodded and are growing in nicely.
• The sprigs on the Range tees are coming along as expected in light of
the less than stellar weather for growing Bermuda. The new grass is
still not ready to hit on and will keep you updated when that changes.
• Cart path work will begin the first week of September. There is work
planned for areas on #6, #7, #8, #9 and other areas around the course.
• We are very aware of the creek issue on #12 and the eyesore it creates.
Medalist Golf will begin repairs during the middle of September. At
that time they will also re-grade some areas along the stone wall to
help with long term maintenance of the silt.
• Medalist will also be doing some drainage repair work on #16 at the
same time. They are expected to be on property for approximately
two weeks.
• The bubblers that were added last year to the lake on # 11 have been a
big help in keeping the algae reduced compared to years past. Because
there is still an algae issue, we hired a company to come treat the algae
and you should see the difference already.
• Please help us maintain your Course:
• Dispose of cigars and cigarettes properly.
• Do not drop cigar or cigarette ashes on the greens.
• Do not throw wrappers on your course.
• Do not spit Sunflower seeds on the greens.
• Please help the Agronomy Department keep the bunkers looking
and playing well, rake your foot prints when exiting.
We hope you are having an enjoyable summer and look forward to a very
active fall at the Club. From the Board Members and Staff, thank you for
all your support.
Sincerely,
John Gerdts

3 • FROM THE COO/GENERAL MANAGER • St Ives Country Club
We have simplified the dress codes in such a way that we
hope it makes it easier to understand and comply with the
attire requirements at the Club.
As of August 18th, the Clubhouse policy is as follows.
Please visit http://www.stivescountryclub.org/MemberCentral/Documents,-Handbooks,-Rules-and-Regulations.
aspx to access the new brochure in it’s entirety, including
Clubhouse, Golf, Tennis and Swim requirements.
Please make note, the St Ives dress code applies to all
adults and children 12 years of age and older.
Thank you for your cooperation,
House and Social Committee

• Tasteful casual attire, including golf and tennis attire.
• Jeans are permitted in all areas of the Clubhouse

evenings) and must be in good taste (not torn, ripped
or excessively baggy)
• On “Family Night” the Clubhouse dress code
still applies
• St Ives Country Club special functions which
require a dress code such as “jackets required” will be
identified with the specific event publications
• St Ives dress code applies to all adults and children 12
years of age and older
Inappropriate Clubhouse attire includes:

• Sweatshirts and inappropriate t-shirts
• Cut-off shorts, short shorts, bathing attire, and

way (Tommy Bahama Style)
Hello and welcome September!
I hope everyone has enjoyed
their summer, and maybe
having one last cookout before
fall really comes in. It’s been
a much cooler season, and we
have all loved the break from
the usual endless, muggy days
that is the norm.
But now – bring in Football Season!!! (that is a
proper noun, right???).
Quick Updates:
We had a fantastic turnout at the New Member
Welcome Reception last month, and it was a
GREAT party! Thank you to all who made it
such a big night. If you were invited, and could
not attend this time, rest assured you will be
invited to the next one; I will make sure you
get to one! It was such a pleasure to see all the
new Members meeting each other, making new
friends, and the sense of community that was
formed - love it!
Young Executive Membership Program:
This category is still going strong for us, and
St Ives is considered to have the best program of
this kind in the area.
There are currently 103 Young Executives. It
is hard to think that there were just 7 in this
category in 2011.
Ages 33-44 is the fastest growing demographic
in Johns Creek, and our Club is doing very well
at representing this incoming group of young
professionals to the area.
If you have a “Young Executive” friend to refer,
please contact me for an update on the program
details and financials. I look forward to being of
service.
One final note, in this new era of corporate takeovers and buy-outs, St Ives is a stand out. We are
going strong and growing. It is wonderful to see
what a group of kind, cool people can do!
Thanks for making this the best club ever, and
for being so good to each other.
Have a great September, and… Gooooo
Falcons!!!!!

Message From The Pro
With September comes cooler
days and in my opinion the best
part of the golf season. Take
advantage of the course in peak
condition and enjoy a lot of golf
for the next three months. As
always in the fall, we have a busy
tournament schedule. Some of the highlights
are the Couples Member Guest, Senior and
Women’s Club Championship. Be sure to look at
the tournament calendar and sign up for all the
events that interest you.
The grass on the Driving Range has grown in
nicely and the new mats are getting rave reviews.
We are asking all range players to be more diligent
on how to minimize the amount of divots taken
with each practice session. Your help here will
greatly improve the condition of the Range.
Thanks in advance for your help here. Be sure
to ask the Professional Staff if you have any
questions. I look forward to seeing you on the
links.

DRIVING RANGE MATS
We have received great feedback on the new mats on
the range. We will be using the mats to rest the turf as
needed. Please note that the new mats receive a tee so
that you no longer have to go in front of the mats to
hit woods. This will allow us to keep the turf in better
condition. Thanks for your help with this!
Rake the Bunkers. We need your help and ask that all
players rake the bunkers when your ball is in one. We are
getting feedback that some players are not doing so.

Director’s Corner
Wow!!! What a great summer
of tennis at St Ives Country
Club. The Courts were filled
with Members playing ALTA
Mixed Doubles and both juniors
and adults playing USTA. The
junior program headed up by our
Head Pro Junior Coordinator,
Stuart Marcus, was well attended with over 100
juniors participating in tennis camps, USTA
tournaments and USTA league play. On the
USTA adult circuit, we had Members, Andy
Biazis and Neal Morgan, working on their state
rankings. Our Staff Tennis Professional Davis
Dawson achieved high results in several USTA
men’s open tournaments and Director of Tennis,
Creig Matthieson, won his 11th consecutive ALTA
Men’s AA1 Senior City Championship.
Social and competitive events will accompany our
ALTA program this month beginning with the
Bring a Ringer Tournament on Friday, September
12th. Members may bring a guest to the Club
and play in women’s and men’s doubles at their
designated flight. This will be a fun evening of
tennis! For our junior tennis players, join in for a
Junior Night tennis party on Saturday, September
13th.
We are pleased to announce that St Ives Country
Club will once again be hosting the Mercedes Benz
Dealer Championships sponsored be Atlanta Classic
Cars. This event will take place on Saturday,
September 20th. See page 22 for more details.
Fall ALTA season is beginning the first week of
September. The Tennis Staff wishes all of our
Member participants much fun, camaraderie
and good tennis in the pursuit of an ALTA City
Championship plate. Since 1993, St Ives Country
Club has had 116 representations at ALTA/USTA
City Finals. All Members are to be commended
for your tennis efforts in providing the Club and
yourselves with this noteworthy achievement. The
Club has most representations at ALTA/USTA
City Finals of any private club in the Atlanta area.

Junior News From Stuart
It’s hard to believe that the summer is over and the Fall
ALTA season is about to start. The 2014 Fall Junior
ALTA season is gearing up and St Ives is looking very
strong with possible Fall City Champions. Thank you to
all the parents who have volunteered their time for being
a Team Captain or Co-Captain during the upcoming
Fall ALTA season. Good luck to all the juniors competing
this Fall ALTA season. There is still time to register
juniors for the fall clinics. If you are interested in your
child fine-tuning his or her skills through private lessons,
lock in your lesson time with the St Ives Tennis Staff to
ensure an available time slot. We are fortunate here at
St Ives to have such an active junior tennis program, that
we are able to field a team in every age group. If your
child(ren) is interested in playing on a Fall ALTA team
please contact the tennis center and we can register them
right away.
