Toward a
Mindful President
America Needs a Buddhist President
By Brett Bevell
Illustrated by Ebsen Dodd
“A cogent and wild solution to the difficulties of our times. Brett Bevell’s book brings wit and sanity to political
discourse. When it comes right down to it, compassion, self-reliance, honesty, and genuine service to others are
at the heart of Buddhism—qualities sorely needed in the body politic.”—Anne Waldman, co-founder with Allen
Ginsberg, The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, Naropa University Poet, Cultural Activist
“Just imagine an American president like the one in Brett Berell’s magical, brilliant, and prophetic poem! When
enough of us share such dreams with our children, they will happen—and that will shapeshift the world!”—John

Destroying World Order
U.S. Imperialism in the Middle East Before and After September 11th
By Francis A. Boyle
Francis A. Boyle is a leading American professor,
practitioner and advocate of international law who

W
hat are the imperial dimensions of U.S.
policy in the Middle East, past and present? This hard-hitting commentary, wellgrounded in fact and law, addresses these questions:
✯ Did the U.S. break international law in the
Middle East before September 11th?
✯ ...after September 11th?
✯ How are U.S. actions affecting the U.N.?
✯ What are the implications for world peace for
the American military, American civil liberties
and American and international economic
well-being?
✯ Should George W. Bush be impeached for lying
in leading the nation to war?

An Act of Conscience
that Rocked Three
Governments
Axis of Deceit
An original trade paperback.
By Andrew Wilkie
H
Wilkie explains how the case for war was made in
Washington, London and Canberra, and how the
three governments routinely skewed, spun and fabricated the relevant intelligence.
ow a former intelligence officer became a
whistleblower on a collision course with his
country’s government.
On March 11, 2003, Andrew Wilkie resigned from
Australia’s senior intelligence agency, the Office of
National Assessments, in protest over the looming
Iraq war. He was the only serving Intelligence Officer
from the Coalition of the Willing—the US, UK and
Australia—to do so, and his dramatic action was
reported throughout the world.
Andrew Wilkie served in the Australian Defence
Force from 1980 until 2000, achieving the rank of
Lieutenant Colonel. During 1999-2000 he joined
Australia’s senior intelligence agency, the Office of
National Assessments, as a Senior Strategic Analyst.
Wilkie worked on a range of issues including Kosovo,
terrorism, WMD and border protection. He returned
to ONA after 9/11 as the Senior Trans-National Issues
Analyst. In recent months Andrew Wilkie has spoken
often in the US, UK and Australia. He also gave evidence at the official UK and Australian inquiries into
the case for war.
In Axis of Deceit, Wilkie offers timely insights into the
world of international intelligence and details of his
life as a spook, in the lead-up to a controversial and
divisive war. Wilkie’s pre-war statements have proven
remarkably accurate: he was convinced Iraq did not
pose a serious enough security threat to justify a war.
In particular, he assessed:

Islamic Pirates
Pirate Utopias
Moorish Corsairs and European Renegadoes
Second Edition
By Peter Lamborn Wilson
“One of those rare books which give historians new ideas... Wilson really does turn the world upside down!”—
Christopher Hill, author of The World Turned Upside Down.
slaves, adventurers, Irish rebels, heretical Jews, British
spies, and radical working-class heroes all populate
this illumination of insurrectionary communities.
T
he history of European Islamic piracy in the
17th Century.
Peter Lamborn Wilson is a notorious underground
intellectual who has written histories of heretical
sufism, spiritual anarchism in Colonial America, hallucinogenic mushroom lore in Irish literature, and
other traditions of autonomy in pre-modern and modern times. He lives in upstate New York.
From the 16th to the 19th century, Moslem Corsairs
from the Barbary Coast ravaged European shipping
operations and enslaved thousands of unlucky captives. During this period, however, thousands of
Europeans also converted to Islam and joined the
pirate holy war. Were these men and women the scum
of the seas, apostates, traitors—Renegadoes? Or did
they abandon and betray Christendom as a praxis of
social resistance?

Hakim Bey is the nom-de-plume of a notorious anarchist intellectual, under which a large number of
essays and communiques have appeared, mostly in the
punk underground and on-line. He splits his time
between a trailer in the New Jersey Pine Barrens and a
run-down NYC Chinatown hotel.
Hakim Bey’s first book, originally published in 1985,
refers in its title to “a mobile or transcient location
free of economic and social interference by the State,”
and through a series of incendiary communiques,
short essays, and poetic historical analysis insists on
the production of greater autonomy in the present
moment, rather than the acceptance of domination in
exchange for the promise of some future utopia.

Robert Stivers: Sestina
By Robert Stivers
with John Wood
“The world according to Robert Stivers is an anxious place in which vision of all is impaired, and in which no one,
introvert or extrovert, can immediately feel entirely comfortable or secure...”—A.D. Coleman
Robert Stivers has shown extensively in the US and
Europe. His photographs are in the Museum of Fine
Arts, Houston, the Museum Ludwig, Cologne,
Germany, and the Victoria and Albert Museum,
London. The artist resides in Santa Fe and New York.
A
large volume, private exhibition of decadent
classicism in contemporary photos.
This unusual suite of photographs uses the poetic
form of Sestina combined with other signature
Stivers’ elements: Romanticism, mysticism, Gothic
and Baroque art, Symbolism and film. With a
contemporary edge eerily recalling the past, the
photos seem dredged up from a seance.
John Wood is an internationally-recognized poet, writer
and historian of photography. Wood holds professorships in both English Literature and Photographic
History at McNeese University in Lousiana, where he is
Director of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing. He is
the author of several prize-winning books of poetry and
photographic criticism and is editor of 21st: The Journal
of Contemporary Photography.
Named after a complex French poetic form based
upon repetition, the Sestina was practiced by
Swinburne, Kipling and Auden, and transformed by
Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot and Elizabeth Bishop. Here,
John Woods’ poetry illuminates Stivers’ surreal
imagery.

The Children of the Sun
A Study of the Egyptian Settlement of the Pacific
By W. J. Perry
W. J. Perry was a professor of Comparative Religion at
the University of Manchester and published several
books, including The Megalithic Culture of Indonesia.
Children of the Sun, his best-known work, is considered a classic in the field. He died in Manchester in
1939.
A
reprint of the rare 1923 book first published
by Methuen & Co. in London—a classic on
the ancient Sun Kingdoms of Egypt and India
and their voyages into Indonesia and the Pacific circa
1500 BC—with 16 ancient maps!
Perry believed that modern civilization began in Egypt
and was spread via ships to Indonesia, the Pacific
Islands, and even to North America. Searching for
gold, obsidian, and pearls they travelled across the
Pacific to the American Southwest and Mexico. He
traces the origin of megalithic culture from Egypt to
the Pacific. Chapters include:

Stargate Secrets of the
Egyptians Revealed!
The Canopus Revelation
Stargate of the Gods and the Ark of Osiris
By Philip Coppens
✯ how the Canopus myth is linked to the Grail
legend and to alchemy, revealed here for the
first time
A
radical reinterpretation of the myth of Osiris
and Isis. Often misidentified with Orion, the
Egyptian god Osiris is linked to the star
Canopus.
Philip Coppens was born in Belgium and currently
lives in Scotland. He writes in English, French and
Flemish for European magazines. A student of the
Templars and Masons, he is a renowned investigator
into ancient history.
Canopus, the Egyptian South polar star, interplays
with Sirius, and ancient accounts surmised that the
two stars controlled time. It was the navigator’s star,
allowing access to the afterlife—the domain of Osiris.
Canopus was specifically identified with Osirus’ Ark,
where he was transformed from mere mortal to resurrected supergod. Canopus was therefore literally a
Stargate, where humans could communicate with, and
aspire to become, gods by entering into other dimensions. This book reveals what the Egyptians actually
believed about:

The Tomb of

Saunier’s Model and the Secret of Rennes-le-Chateau
The Priest’s Final Legacy that Unveils the Location of his Terrifying Discovery
By André Douzet
Douzet also reveals much more new evidence:

erenger Sauniére, an enigmatic priest in the French
village of Rennes-le-Chateau, is rumored to have
found the legendary treasure of the Cathars.
✯ letters between Sauniére and the model maker

In 1916, Father Sauniere created a clue to support this
speculation: he created a model of the Calvary Mount,
indicating the Tomb of Jesus. But the region on the
model does not actually resemble the region of
Jerusalem.
✯ Did Sauniére leave a clue as to the true
location of his treasure?
✯ What is that treasure?
✯ And what became of it?
André Douzet was born in France and lives near to
Rennes-le-Chateau. He is the president of the Societe
Perillos, dedicated to proving that Jesus and Mary
Magdalene were married and lived in southern France
after the Crucifixion.
After years of research, André Douzet discovered the
model, the location of Sauniere’s treasure—and the
possible tomb of Jesus, because Father Sauniere had
never collected the model from the model maker’s.

he mysterious Scottish Rosslyn Chapel has
fueled controversy and debate for centuries.
Revered by Freemasons as a vital part of their
history, believed by some to hold evidence of preColumbian voyages to America, it is assumed by others to hold important relics from the Holy Grail to the

Recognizing and Meeting Threats in Chess

T
his book is written to address an underemphasized area of chess training and study, the identification of and reaction to—threats.
For beginner and intermediate-level players, the study
of tactics is paramount. Almost all tactics books take
the approach of providing a position where there is a
forced win, checkmate or draw. However, Looking for
Trouble takes a different tack.

Debate on
Aboriginal injustice
Whitewash
On Keith Windschuttle’s Fabrication of Aboriginal History
Edited by Robert Manne
“If there is a culture of silencing discussion of the injustices in Australia’s colonial history, Fabrication shows us
that this silence is paradoxically creating a great deal of noise. Whitewash helps to show us there is something to
be drowned out.”—Rebe Taylor, The Age.
n December 2002, The Fabrication of Aboriginal
History Vol.1 by Keith Windschuttle was published. It argued that violence between whites and
Aboriginals in colonial Tasmania had been vastly
exaggerated and sought to rewrite the most contentious part of Australian history, attracting much
coverage and heated criticism.
Robert Manne is Professor of Politics at La Trobe
University, Melbourne, and a regular columnist for the
Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age. His
books include The Culture of Forgetting, The Shadow of
1917 and In Denial: The Stolen Generations and the
Right.
Until now Windschuttle’s arguments, agenda and
methods have not been comprehensively examined.
Whitewash collects Australia’s leading writers on
Aboriginal history to re-examine the points in the
book. The result is an authoritative account of the history and politics of the colonial frontier and a demolition of revisionism.

Take Me to Paris, Johnny
By John Foster
“Not only some kind of literary masterpiece, but a work of such grace and gravity, filled with such sparkle as well
as sorrow, that it is, to my knowledge, unparalleled in Australian letters.”—Peter Craven, critic & essayist
"A story that resonates ... With its brilliantly accomplished use of language, it shows why love in one of its myriad
forms can rescue lives from futility."—Robert Dessaix, author of Night Letters
A
This is the rarest of things—a book full of intelligence
and laughter that tells of terrible events with intimacy
and grace.
Cuban dancer meets an Australian historian,
and a casual fling gradually becomes an international love affair that transforms their lives.
John Foster (1944-1994) taught history at the
University of Melbourne.
In this unforgettable memoir, John Foster recounts the
life and death of his lover, Juan Cespedes. This unlikely love story takes in much of the twentieth century
seen from the angle of the outsider: Juan is the refugee
from oppression, the immigrant trying to make it, the
early victim of a spreading plague. John is the sophisticate from a first-world culture, who fully embraces
his unexpected love.

ideal location in which to mourn his wife and
as a backdrop for the narcissistic wanderings of his
disturbed spirit.
He becomess obsessed with a young dancer whom he
believes is the double of his beloved wife, leading him
to psychological torment and humiliation, culminating in a deranged murder.
Will Stone is a literary journalist and translator who
specializes in the prose and poetry of the late 19th
Century. He has, in addition, taken the photos of
Bruges which accompany this volume.
This 1892 work is a poet’s novel, dense, visionary and
haunting. Bruges, the ’dead city’, becomes a metaphor
for Hugues’ dead wife as he follows its mournful
labyrinth of streets and canals in a cyclical promenade
of reflection and allusion—the ultimate evocation of
Rodenbach’s lifelong love affair with the enduring
mystery and mortuary atmosphere of Bruges.

Impressionist Paris
Brought Alive
Parisian Sketches
By Joris-Karl Huysmans
Translated by Brendan King
“This superb new translation by Brendan King vividly recalls the allusive, proto-expressionist vigour of the original; images snarl and spring at the reader.”—Murrough O’Brien in The Independent on Sunday
Joris-Karl Huysmans’ (1848-1907) early short stories
and novels were in the naturalist style of Emile Zola.
Dissatisfied with the limitations of Naturalism, he
wrote Rebours (1884), a novel without a plot, which
launched Decadence as a literary movement.
F
irst published in 1880, same year as Edgar
Degas’ The Dancing Lesson and Edouard Manet’s
solo show, these Parisian Sketches share the
Impressionist fascination with the contemporary life
of Paris, the exuberant Paris of the Opéra Garnier and
the Folies-Bergéres.
Brendan King is a freelance writer, reviewer and
translator whose Ph.D. is on the life and works of
J.K.Huysmans. He divides his time between the Isle of
Wight and London.
Like the striking images of the early Impressionists,
Parisian Sketches is an assault on the visual senses.
Composed of a series of intense, meticulously
observed literary impressions—of café concerts and
circus performers, of streetwalkers and hot-chestnut
sellers, of forgotten quarters in the grimy, shiny ’City
of Light’—Parisian Sketches recreates Paris with an
intimacy and immediacy that confirms Huysmans as
one of the masters of 19th century French prose.

This is insight and encouragement for the difficult

Why do some people choose health, while others

natural inertia that normally blocks progress. By clarifying a sense of will or purpose, any person can move
beyond limits of psychology, belief, or environment to

Spiritual Surrender
A Man and His Master
My Years With Yogi Ramsuratkumar
By Mani (N.S. Subramanian)
with S. Lhaksam
“I had been coming to see Yogi Ramsuratkumar
occasionally when He suddenly asked me to stay
with Him for the next ten years. He didn’t elaborate and I didn’t hesitate. I never returned home. I
did not go to settle affairs with my business partner. I just stayed... I don’t really know how it
could have been so easy, except that He made it
so comfortable for me to assume life in His company. I had never considered a need for such
external guidance. Spiritual life had not even
been a consideration for me. There is a great
mystery that moves in the mundane world. This
mystery stole into my heart...I did not know that
any such thing could happen to me, but it did.”
A
memoir of years of service to the God-Mad
Beggar and saint, Yogi Ramsuratkumar. The
author was chosen by Yogi Ramsuratkumar to
oversee and manage the building of his temple in
Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India.
From the moment Yogi Ramsuratkumar asked Mani to
serve him in early 1994, to the Yogi’s death in 2001,
Mani lived with and served him, constantly and continuously, never leaving his post without first asking
permission. Mani’s account, which presents dynamic
teaching stories of Yogi Ramsuratkumar, also offers
details about his own life of surrender on a spiritual
path.
Mani (N.S. Subramanian) was sixty years old when
he met Yogi Ramsuratkumar and began his service.
Formerly an architectural engineer for large-scale construction projects in Asia, he is now retired and lives
with his wife in Bangalore, India.

The Other Within

Introduction by Robert Bly

ow society’s misfits inspire our poetic consciousness.
Consciously or not, many street-crazies, homeless
people and panhandlers embody subversive virtue by
adopting the classic Trickster paradigm. In this
groundbreaking new study, the author demonstrates
that these misfits embody Trickster-wisdom, providing
creative and innovative benefits to the same society
that invalidates and excludes its practicioners.
Robert Bly is a leader of the men’s movement, one of
America’s most popular poets, and author of Iron John
and many other books of nonfiction and poetry.

among us are acting out our collective, subconscious
responses to a betrayal of a mythic promised life.

Migraine and Other Headaches
An American Academy of Neurology Press Quality of Life Guide
By T. Jock Murray, M.D. and Stephen D. Silberstein, M.D.
William B. Young, M.D., is Assistant Professor of
Neurology and Director of the Inpatient Program at
the Jefferson Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson

and the role of managed care in the current health
care setting.
H
eadache is the most common complaint for
which people see neurologists and the seventh most common reason they visit their
primary care doctors. It is the third most common
cause of missed work, and can seriously undermine
quality of life if not effectively managed.
Migraine and Other Headaches is the essential guide for
everyone who suffers from headaches, and will provide the information needed to obtain effective medical care and long-term relief. Different types of
headache are thoroughly explained in easy to understand language, beginning with migraine, the most
common severe headache, which occurs in approximately 12 percent of the U.S. population. Also discussed are rebound headache, tension-type
headache—the most common primary headache disorder, cluster headache, unusual headaches, nonheadache illnesses that frequently accompany
headache, sinus headache, disorders of the neck, posttraumatic headache, and atypical facial pain and
trigeminal neuralgia.

Modern Media Dissected
Memoirs of a Media Maverick
By Boyce Richardson
“Beautifully written and a timely inspiration for all of today’s journalism. It’s about courage, adventure, principles, humanity, and a sense of humor.”—Roy MacGregor, columnist, The Globe and Mail
A prolific author and film director, Richardson’s work
has focused on Aboriginal peoples, the environment,

A
n insider’s critical account of modern media.
Richardson tells the fascinating story of his
work, starting in 1945, as a journalist and
filmmaker in New Zealand, Australia, India, Britain,
and Canada.
Boyce Richardson is an internationally-renowned
filmmaker and journalist, with more than 50 years
experience in all forms of media.
From the first, he found himself out of synch with the
commercial ethos of the mainstream media; yet, as his
career propelled him across the world, he became
sympathetic to the pressures and changes within his
field—though still devoted to higher goals. He once
said: “Although I have worked in the media most of
my life, in a wide variety of functions, my distaste for
it has grown with every year, until today I have no
hesitation in describing it as appalling.”

awdry, titillating pictures from a sinful past—
rare, vintage pinup and girly photos from the
1950’s and 1960’s, the golden age of girly photos.
In this collection of 350 curvaceous kittens are dames,
dancers, doxies, broads, floozies and would-be starlets
from the 50’s. These Sex Cats were typified by Jayne
Mansfield, Diana Dors and Mamie VanDoren and
appeared in films like Baby Doll and Peeping Tom and
magazines like Striparama, After Hours, Blast!, Spree,
Taboo and Tom Kat.
Carl Miranda, the photographer of many of these
images, spent his youth in the 1920’s working at
Coney Island, and later worked in traveling roadshows, where he honed his skills in photography and
making of cheap, exploitative films such as Ubangi
Lust. In the 1940’s he returned to NYC as a news photographer, and developed ties to seamy organizations
and questionable characters. These associations provided the basis for his last career as a smut photographer.
The awkward stare, ill-fitting lingerie and occasional
bruise all provide testimony to the candid yet concupiscent nature of these seedy, yet provocative, pictures.
These seductive images were fetish objects for the millions, and were discovered glued into albums or
record sleeves, tied in stacks, in old cigar boxes, and
hidden in books (notably: Dante’s Inferno).

Walter Kundzicz, now 78, created and marketed

T
he first book of images from Champion
Studios, famous for quality color images of
handsome, athletic young men from the late
1950’s and early ’60’s.
These 345 photographs of scantily clad athletes—
packed with amusing props, costumes, and bulging
posing pouches—are notable not only for the commercial success they enjoyed during their heyday, but
also for their enduring creativity and imagination.
Reed Massengill is the photographer of three collections of male nudes, and his images also have been
included in many photographic anthologies, including
Exposed (Thunder’s Mouth, 2000) and Male Nude Now
(Universe, 2001). He was commissioned to write the
award-winning Becoming American Express; and his
first book, Portrait of a Racist (St. Martin’s, 1994), was
nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for biography in
1994.
Whether measured in terms of his prolific output,
sales, his early and sophisticated use of customer mailing lists, or his impact upon the U.S. censorship laws
of his time, Kundzicz and his work left an indelible
imprint on male physique photography.
Today, nearly half a century later, Kundzicz’s work and
his most popular models continue to have their ardent

The Monster
Inside Us All...
The Darker Passions: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
By Nancy Kilpatrick (Writing As Amarantha Knight)
“A classic in itself has been added to the shelves.”—Divinity Magazine
“A wonderfully written adaptation of the classic cult figure. Delectable indeed.”—Redemption
Amarantha Knight is the steamy pseudonym of
Canadian horror writer Nancy Kilpatrick. Under both
names she has written fourteen novels, including The
Darker Passions series, the Power of the Blood series,
and As One Dead. She has also written for VampErotica
comics and has edited numerous anthologies. She has
won the Arthur Ellis Award for best mystery story, has
been a Bram Stoker finalist twice and an Aurora Award
finalist five times. She and her black cat Bella make
their home Montreal.
T
he second title in The Darker Passions series. In
1993 Amarantha Knight took Bram Stoker’s
classic Dracula, a tome heavy with the
repressed sexuality of the Victorian age, and unrepressed it. The book was so successful that it spawned
a series of seven erotic retellings of Victorian gothic
novels.
Rife with spankings, whippings, and the discovery of
hidden sexualities, this version of Jekyll & Hyde
explores the ’monster’ of lust that lurks inside even
the most respectable characters.
