The filmmakers take the audience behind the public events
and press conferences and into the smoke-filled backroom
corridors of power during one of the 20th century’s most
significant historical moments-The 1979 Peace Accord
between Egypt and Israel.
SYNOPSIS : For one brief moment in time, Arab and Jew
put their differences aside and embraced peace. Sadat, Begin,
and Carter -- they were the titans of their time, but it was
the men behind the scenes, some driven by deeply held faith
and conviction, others merely by raw ambition, who found a
way to come together and drive the peace process. It is a tale

SYNOPSIS : The Criminal Investigation Unit of Marseille’s
Detective Division is a highly specialised section of the French
gendarmerie, made up of six unstoppable and unyielding police
officers. With the powers and skills required to solve the most
complex murder cases, the members of this experimental unit
are experts in criminology, operating outside the standard limits
of the French police.
An élite group of five maverick officers, they form a fearsome
crime-fighting force, tackling an ever-changing criminal
underworld with the latest law enforcement tools and answering
only to their superior, Commandant Saint-Mathieu. Distraught
since the murder of his wife, Saint-Mathieu is a broken man,
impervious to what goes on around him. As dangerous to his
enemies as he is to himself, Saint-Mathieu is permanently torn
between the routine of his work and his internal torment.
With the return of his daughter Bérénice, still angry that her
father failed to investigate her mother’s death, Saint-Mathieu is
forced to set his life in order so that he can protect his child.

Calt Production Event
Monday 8th June at 18:30
CALT, «C’est à la télé», was created by Jean-Yves Robin in 1999 as a production company specialising
in conceptually innovative and highly exportable discussion shows and television series.
Through programmes such as Planète en Folie, Le Goût du Noir and Ultime Razzia, CALT built up
a reputation on French terrestrial television. The group’s biggest triumph came with the sevenminute format of Caméra Café, followed by success with Kaamelott (as well as Vous les Femmes and
Héro Corp.), establishing CALT as a key company in French television production and enabling it
to widen its scope internationally.Today the group’s expertise, especially in creating short comedy
programmes, is universally recognised.

their obvious differences: Rémy, a dynamic and high-flying Purchasing Manager, and his friend Franck,
a rather unsophisticated member of the sales team. The comic equivalents of their predecessors,
Hervé and Jean-Claude, they show us the difficulties of the modern French workplace.

TV Xchanges
The 49th Monte-Carlo TV Festival launches the TV XCHANGES.
The Monte-Carlo TV Xchanges, a two day conference, will take place 9th to 10th June 2009, within the 49th edition of the
Festival. The conference will include round table discussions on topics such as international co-production, financing and the
impact of new technologies on production within the content business. With a list of well-known keynote speakers daily
updated on the TV Festival website, top US and European producers, programming decision makers, financial organizations,
government and regional institutions are expected to attend.
With the participation of
Tuesday 9th June 2009
10 :00 - 11 :15
Round Table One: What new revenue streams
can production companies look for ?
A number of issues have come together to
destabilise the system that is currently in place for
financing audiovisual projects. Television channels
and production companies alike need to identify or
develop new revenue streams, sources of income
that are uniquely tailored to multiplatform markets.
11 :45 – 12 :15
Keynote speaker 1
15:00 - 16:15
Round Table Two: Combining new technologies
with a new approach to production
Creating content specifically designed for digital
networks has become an increasingly widespread
practice. Established companies have been
forced to adopt innovative ways of differentiating
themselves from their competitors and of offering
content that appeals to consumers. In order to
take advantage of these new ways of broadcasting
in the most practical and targeted way possible,
production companies must change the ways in
which content is developed and produced. We will
need to explore certain areas of the industry that
will be particularly affected, focusing on greater
cooperation between the key groups involved
in creating content, from the earliest stages of
its development to using new writing methods
and ensuring the participation of new sources of
financial investment.
Wednesday 10th June 2009
10 :00 – 10 :30
Keynote speaker 2
11 :00–12 :15
Round Table Three: New trends in television
drama
The world of television drama is constantly
changing. The combination of the scriptwriting
crisis of 2008 and an unstable economic climate
ushered in a new era of television drama. Budgets
are shrinking, formats are evolving and the
United States are becoming more receptive to
series made in other countries. In Europe, the UK
has succeeded in making programmes which are
both different and successful, becoming
an inspiring creative force for other
nations.
French television drama is
going through a considerable upheaval
and new formats are gradually
taking over from an older style,
a style which continues to
remain powerful, however,
attracting a wide spectrum
of viewers.
In this everchanging
landscape,
which factors will
ensure the success
of future television
dramas?

as an actor, appeared in & directed Broadway & offBroadway productions, formed a theatre company
in Hollywood, and he later make transition from
theatre to film.
Yamina Benguigui
Director – Producer – Writer
(France)
Passionate about cinema, Yamina Benguigui chose
to work in film because she believes that it is open
to everyone, seeing the medium as an invaluable
tool with which to challenge our thinking.
Her pioneering work explores the human side
of immigration. Rejecting the insidious form of
apartheid that discrimination represents and
refusing to accept the notion that exclusion is
inevitable, she highlights the changing nature
of French society after decolonisation and the
consequences of population displacement,
acknowledging the cultural and religious problems
that result.
Each of her films is designed to lead into a debate
on social issues – as well as showing her ‘film
tools’, she also asks her audiences to respond
directly, stimulating discussion, encouraging the
public’s input and challenging public authorities,
forcing them into taking action on the causes she
has espoused.
On 28 March 2008, she was elected Deputy to
the Mayor of Paris, overseeing human rights and
fighting discrimination.

Carmen E. Lebbos
Jacob Houlind
Actress (Lebanon )
President & CEO, Nordisk Film TV A/S
(Denmark)
Carmen was born in Beirut – Lebanon
From modest roots in Beirut, she wanted to be
part of the showbiz: at the age of 12, she had
the opportunity to become a dancer in a troop
(in view of my tallness), but her father objected
so much. Carmen’s voyage formally started at
16: she wanted to join the Academy of Arts to
learn Acting, she was seeking for a light house and
had the opportunity to meet Ziad Rahbani from
whom she learned to be “Natural”. Carmen’s first
actual mentor, Mr. Yaacoub Chedrawi taught me
the basics of Theatre. But her main reference book
remained Stanislavski’s (this great Russian Theatre
teacher).
Jacob, born 1971, is the President & CEO of Nordisk
Film TV. Nordisk Film TV is a leading independent
TV production company in the Nordic region, with
offices in Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm
with a turnover of 55 M€ producing around 1500
hours of television programs yearly. Besides overall
responsibility of the Television division Jacob is
currently the Executive Producer of the biggest
Danish daily drama series “2900 Happiness” and
weekly drama series “Big Dreams”.
End of 80s, Carmen was looking to hit Paris to
deepen her knowledge but found it impossible
to live there, with her son. So, Carmen attended
intensive courses at: Academie des Beaux
Arts in 1986, London Drama School in 1898,
Cinematography courses at Oxford in 1990,
School of Theatre and Cinema (Paris) in 1992.
Throughout the Arab Countries, she has
participated in many TV series: historical, drama,
soap opera and comedy. But Carmen’s favourites
roles are: Beyn Beirut w Dubai (2007/2008), Maleh
ya baher (2007), Zahrat El Kharif (2006)…
Carmen is now a Board Member of Actors
Syndicate in Lebanon since 2005.
Jacob holds a Master of Law from University
of Copenhagen and an Executive MBA from
Copenhagen Business School (CBS).
Jacob is a member of the International Academy
of Television arts and sciences (International Emmy

Special Prizes / URTI Prize
> AMADE Prize awarded under the
patronage of UNESCO
(The World Association of Friends
of Children)
The aim of this Prize is to reward a programme of
excellence (a television film or a news programme)
which echoes the ideals of UNESCO and AMADE
and which deals with an issue of human relationships
whose plot and treatment neither feature violence nor
inscite it.
> Prize of the «International Committee
of the Red Cross»
This prize, launched in 2003 to mark the 140th
anniversary of the creation of the International
Committee of the Red Cross, will be awarded to a
news programme which promotes the principles of
international humanitarian law by covering a conflict in
terms of its main consequence: the victims.
The ICRC considers that the attitude of the public

outstanding documentaries, which combine fascinating
topics with a high level of technical expertise. The
documentaries may present subjects which are either
social or cultural.
The competition’s main objective is to celebrate the
finest contributions from documentary directors
from around the world. The Grand Prix takes place
every June in the context of the prestigious MonteCarlo TV Festival, organised by the Principality, which
is ideally suited to showcase the event. The winner of
the competition is presented with the ARMAN trophy,
designed by the renowned sculptor. The directors who
place second and third receive, respectively, a silver and
a bronze medal.
This year the award ceremony takes place
on Monday, the 8th of June, at 19:00 in the
Salle Empire of the Hôtel de Paris (MonteCarlo). The results of the competition will
be announced after a discussion led by
