Area Day – Cressing Temple Barns - JDC
Area Day – Cressing Temple Barns
Sunday 12th July was the date of our annual Area Day. Once again the forecast was for passing showers and there
was concern it might deter people from attending our prime event of the year. Our fears were thankfully
unfounded as we had a very good attendance by club members. We were also lucky enough to have a number of
visitors that joined us at our central display area, including a couple of members of Suffolk Area 29.
The centre piece of our display was, I am very pleased to say, Ron and Pam Monks’ wonderful Mark 10. It was great
to see Pam and Ron and we all wish Ron a continued recovery.
Ian Livingston’s organising skills certainly came to the fore as the rain did not dare to show up whilst he was in
attendance and despite the occasional threatening cloud I believe suncream was more the order of the day.
Sadly I was unable to award my choice of Car of the Day as we have been unable to locate the Cup. We will put
something in place for next year’s event. Had I been able to, I believe my choice of car to take home would have
been Ron Monk’s Mark X although I doubt he’d trust me to drive it and I would have nowhere to put it anyway
(more of that later).
I would like to thank everyone that attended for making it such a wonderful event for us all. Special thanks go to
Ron and Anita for bringing the gazebo and paraphernalia, and to Anne Livingston for the fantastic job she did of
‘womanning’ the gazebo, trying to recruit every likely soul that happened to hesitate near our display.
A real good turnout of cars for Area Day filling the verge aroung the centre display area

Members’ cars ranged right through to more modern machines such as Mike Stracey’s XF
and Dave Portway’s X Type seen here.
Terry and Caroline’s fabulous XJR next to the day’s mystery car, the green XK.
(Turned out it belongs to Jim Patten’s partner, Karen)

From burbling purrs to magnificent roars!
Two of the best sounding cars on the day; Ian Livingston’s Black XKR and Peter Le Fevre’s XK. Grrreat!
Settling in for a little respite from the afternoon sun. Careful on that chair Dennis!

Drinks were certainly the order of the day (unless you wanted a coffee from the café)
Mike, Dawn and Sian ‘cooling off’ with some light
refreshment.
Gary
and
Celine with the world’s best behaved dog, Pip.
What can I say….?
Apart from “we can see you Pete”
I believe Brenda is actually asleep in this picture.
I think this bouncer was escorting her off the premises.
Once again, it was a great event and a huge thanks to everyone that was able
to attend and helped with running the day.
PS. I have more photos of everyone’s car should they want any.
